I will be totally honest with all of you. I have never played a sandbox style game. I am currently waiting for Guild Wars 2 because of the dynamic quest system. I am just tired of the same ole' same ole'. After reading all of the forums and watching videos I think I might actually try this. I've always been a themepark player but I think I could get use to this openness. Anybody else coming over to a sandbox from a themepark feelin the same way?
Have Played: FFXI, WoW, Aion, DCUO
Waiting For: TSW, World of Darkness, SWTOR
Currently Playing: KOTOR
Tried: Matrix Online, Rift, Xsyon, LOTRO, EVE, Guild Wars

Yup. Been playing themepark mmo's the past 6 years or so, found this game and jumped the gun and haven't regret it any bit. This game is brilliant. Lots of fun to be had with a creative mind!
I'm not coming from a themepark, but I am in the same boat as far as having been convinced to play the game by the overwhelming positive feedback.
I self identify as a monkey.
welcome, and I hope you all stick with it. patience is a virtue. and I have been following for almost a year now and it's come very far with constant updates from the lead dev. Plus they are hiring more in march supposedly so it can only get better. With the addition of pvp and pve servers in the future all types of sandbox players can find a home here in time!
Can't wait to watch this game evolve.
A game has to be the full package for me, this just seems like a building sim.
Seems to be a lot of Xsyon threads along the same line, from what I've seen I dont see why tbh. What is it offering appart from terrible graphics (not nessesary a bad thing but needs to be backed by something solid).
Has anyone with more posts than say 20 in the last year had anything to say about this game?
Does this game support grinding/gathering/crafting players? that like to play alone after work?
You nailed it on the head. MMORPG comes out (and this one has been in and out already with issues but that's another topic) and suddenly we have a few novice subscribers who just pop in to tell us how the game isn't like WoW but gosh oh golly gee it has something for you and something for me...
Seems to me that a few guys in the advertising department are keeping busy with some rhetoric on these forums. I therefore wonder if the OP and another post just like it (though much longer) was a product of the same or a different employee for Xyson's garage based mmorpg.
Hmmm, I noticed it too. Sounds like hype boosting.
Or maybe it's because this site has a lot of homeless sandbox fans that were lurking around the mmorpg.com forums looking for a new sandbox home.
Anyway, good for those people that can find fun in Xsyon

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Someone who is trained (a forensic psychologist for example) in seeing a lie through a micro-expression, the way someone writes in cursive, displays their body during said discussion, or in this case, opens up with, "I will be totally honest with all of you." is nearly falling over themselves in the amount of bull dung they have fallen in.
Future reference? Never start a defense with sounding like you are starting a defense.
Thats what it feels like to me too, I did a bit of a dig thru the "we love xsyon" game and some posters are beyond the newbie mark but still ... game just doesnt appear to have much to hype about - some of these posts are getting a bit D&L level...
Welp, I am technically new around here (lost my old account along with a closed school email, forgot password lol) but I am enjoying Xsyon so far. There are definietely improvements to be made, you can easily see they have a lot of work to be done in the videos. I am not a Xsyon fanboy or a schill, but it's a fun game. There are plenty of posts detailing what's good and bad about the game, no need to go into them. Personally I just get the feeling when I play that reminds me of the first time I played Eve Online, the endless possibilties, the ability to build and destroy, and the freedom to do pretty much whatever I want. I always enjoy games that don't spoon feed content down my throat. Much like Eve, the devs have given us the tools to make the world, we can make whatever content we want.
I was sorta suspect of that a few weeks ago but then I started seeing some posters whos names I did reconize so that kinda eased my concerns I watched the official forums some as well recently.I bought it tonight 40 bucks not a big deal hell I bought that steaming pile of poo AoC at launch Warhammer Online and countless others.I will try it out tomm and I will give my impressions if it sucks I won't have a issue at all saying this sucks.
Thanks for using your skills to contribute to the greater good of society, im glad we have you on these forums to stop the madness.
edit: decided i'd stay somewhat on topic. I've been a pure themepark guy for the extent of my mmo career and I'm currently quite liking what I've seen from this game. Has a nice minecraft feel to it that I extremely look forward to.
I don't usually feed trolls but you seemed especially hungry and lonely.....
But nice profession I'm glad you are doing well for yourself!
Anyway not sure what your point is since I clearly stated I was waiting for Guild Wars 2 to come out. So if your point is, I was hired by Notorious or something I must be a double agent for NCSoft . Anyhoo I haven't even tried it out yet was just stating I was interested in something other than a themepark.

Well to me it seems like the game has some really cool features (terraforming, random recipes, tribes, etc) but what people fail to realize is the lack of tools a player has to create content. Alright, building a bridge, a tent and terraforming an island indeed is pretty damn cool, but if you're limited to that then you'll get bored in 2 weeks.
Don't get me wrong, I am a sandboxer by all means. I've played Ultima Online for years, was addicted to Minecraft and even played Wurm Online. The fact is that all those games give you enough tools to really create content. Hell, in Minecraft you can make dungeons, factories and even build 8-bit computers with circuits. In Ultima Online you can make a rune library, an auction house or even be a broker/ goods reseller. What can you do in Xsyon, though? Make 10 tents one next to eachother in a terraformed island? Go hunt one of the 4 mobs? Sorry but the game doesn't have enough to offer.
The first day or so is pretty cool because you don't realize that at all. That's why there are so positive threads lately. After a week or so you'll find yourself barely playing.

Nice, I look forward to it
We're all shills? Come on...be serious. Some people..like me..have found a game..that surprised them and are now hoping it may surprise others with how much enjoyment they may find in it's open world. Most posts in favor of Xsyon have not been glowing endless praise as from the sparkling toothed grin of a used car salesman. On the contrary...most have pointed out several flaws and are rife with expressions, hopes and desires for various changes.refinements and the implementation of the features listed on the website..and then some. All along trying to say how much fun the game is despite it's incomplete and flawed (pre-launch) state. How these positive posters can be thought of as marketing subterfuge specialists is really beyond me. At $40.00 for two free months at launch (not including goofing around and learning some of the system before hand while offering suggestions and noting bugs to make the game even better) ..we're just saying "give it a go" and maybe, at the least , you can have a bit of fun while helping an indie developer fine tune a really refreshing and ambitious game.
For some people though... I guess it's not enough to rain on the parade...they must sprout wings, fly overhead and shit on the marching band. It's comical.
ok i am by far not a novice,i play all of them sandbox sandpark and themepark. I find the sandbox a better fit for me, its not going to fit for everyone. Some people like to go in and basicly run quest and progress through a game and some like to go in and make thier own way.
This game is NOT for the players that prefer to have quest all day long.
This game is for the people that liked wurm online for example.
My hype is for those people that enjoyed playing wurm as thats the best example i can give of the type of game it is. To me its a true sandbox.
Mortal was more a Sandpark
DarkFall is a Sandpark
This game does not have dev created cities and npcs. The only quest are created by the tribes in game. Everything in game is created by the players.
for 40 bucks and 2 free months its well worth it.
played M59,UO,lineage,EQ,Daoc,Entropia,SWG,Horizons,Lineage2.EQ2,Vangaurd,Irth online, DarkFall,Star Trek
and many others that did not make the cut or i just plain forgetting about.
I can see why you would think this. All of these people are all saying great thing about this game that they play, but nobody that plays it ever knocks it.Do you know why they dont put the game down BECAUSE THEY ALL LIKE IT AND SEE IT FOR WHAT IT IS.
Alot of the people who play the game use the same name here as they do in game .So i know they really play.I have seen only 3 people put the game down that have said they have played and didnt like it and i have seen them in game so i know they are telling the truth. They have every right to say what they say. They play it and didnt like it.But for you people to knock a game you just heard about and never played it, your words have on meaning. So pull out $40, come in game and send me a tell in game (name is Buddy) and tell me i was wrong and this game sucks. Then i will have to listen .But untill then Poof be gone, I destroy you 3000 points of wisdon.
You may need to look around the Xsyon section of this website a bit more if you think it's being hyped by only the new members of this website. Xsyon is different. It's not for everyone. It has has major potential (as do so many other mmo's...). I put my $40 into this game...I haven't had a ton of time to play but so far, no regrets. It's nice to see something new. Rift was a disapointment with all of it's hype and my long time favorite MMO (Vanguard) has lost all support from SOE. We, as MMO players, need more options...more choices. Xsyon seems to be offering just that. One complaint: I'm not a graphics first guy but it would be nice to see an improvement on the graphics in Xsyon.
*Edit* And what Kaocan said!
Typical MMORPG.com style really. Peopl play a game, find they love it and come on here to tell everyone about it. Then the usuals pop up. They never tried the game, never intend to, but they begin bashing on the ones who post to let everyone know what they found. They put up comments like needing over 20 posts to be reliable. Hey I'm sorry, I know at least 10 trolls, professional trolls on these forums that have over 1000 posts each and I wouldnt' trust them as far as I could throw them.
Here is some fact for everyone who hasn't bothered to try Xsyon. It is a great game, tons of fun to play. If your a thempark or hardcore PvP player, your barking up the wrong tree. Thats not what makes it great. There is no park and the PvP isn't the games focus right now. Its in a build stage right now, rebuilding the world. Once the build phase is over they will open up more to it. Half the people in this thread alone have never read anything about this game, its blatently obvious once you have.
My recommendation, if you want to try it, then try it. If you want to know about it, visit the official forums and READ about it. If you dont want to try it, shut up and let those that do, talk in the Xsyon forums about the game they want to talk about. Contribute or leave, really.
