lifetime, the biggest scam.. Dont get me staretd, but i will state that Turbine use to be great, there aint a bit of soul left to this company but corporate tools.. Totally lost as to what an art is... just think they desever to be bowed to... What LOTRO needs is fun. and you wont ever see it.. so good luck with what ya get, and what bs you get served.. one thing is for sure they can no longer deliver
My experience with RAD has been, well, non existent. (unless you count the discussions and reading about it) I haven't been 65 for long and can count on one hand how many raids I have been in.
However, not knowing if I was missing out on something I started to research the whole 'rad thing'. I quickly found that there was a pretty steep treadmill of grinding and gear upgrades just to get to the point to grind the 'good dungeons/instances'. To each their own...
As it is, I still have a ton of quests to do (most epic) and skipped quite a few areas (like the whole of Forechel, lol... well except the epic required adventuring). I'll be busy for awhile with those and skirmishing I guess. When the expansion comes out, even more so.
I could be narcissistic (hooray for spell checking ) and have the belief system that since I don't want or need rad or its related parts... then it is thus OK with me. However, I haven't found that attitude to be very conducive to enjoying things (and this is a game... right?)
Being rather goal driven, and interested in PvMP, I probably need to put forth more effort into obtaining much better gear than I have now. So far it seems the best gear is the rad gear... this is what I have gathered from googling and talking to folks as well as just noticing what folks' toons are equiped with. (especially when they have 2k more morale than me, lol)
What I want more than the gear though is a non-grinding way of obtaining it. Crafting would be great and while I have no expectations of such, I am still hoping for a later crafting system update to fill the gap between what it is now and the much better (so I have found so far) drops. Oh, and no (if you ask) I have very very rarely had to grind for mats... I just get them while questing, exploring, or helping folks out in their respective quests and exploration desires.
As Astrialla posted I too am curious if there will be other changes to current rad gear besides just surgically removing the rad stats.
Finally, like others have mentioned I am highly impressed and respectful of the LOTRO dev folks taking ownership of this and working to make it right (in their eyes at least). That is not just rare in dev teams, not just in the gaming industry... or any other. Rather I find that such an attitude is so refreshing because it is rare everywhere.
I don't understand why people get so wound up over Radiance. I don't raid anymore and didn't care about it, but I easily got enough to start raiding if I had wanted to just by doing three mans with friends and GS runs. There have been many mmos where end game was considerably more difficult to obtain, and frustrating.
Am I glad it's gone? Honestly, I could care less one way or another. LOTRO does so many things well, radiance was the least of my concerns. The lore is amazing and enjoyable and there's variety to keep me occupied with friends for a long time to come. The game feels full of life, not empty at all.
I have never once bothered with, nor worried about, Radiance. I'm not a raider.
And while I'm sure there were many people who quit over it, in the casual kin I belong to, I can not name a single person who left the game citing Radiance as a contributing factor. In fact, a lot of the kin are on lifetime accounts and come and go as they please, or if they weren't, have dropped back in since the F2P option went live to see how things are. I'd say less than 30% have left and never looked back, and many of those left over issues like the declining frequency of updates.
I'm a vet player and a lifetime member but i know alot of ppl who left befor the game went F2P. Most of my friends and kin mates in the game are no longer playing so i'm glad it's gone because i have no one to do the raids with now. I try to rebuild my kinship and make new friends but it seems some ppl are not as freindly as they were befor the game went F2P , which is a shame thats what i loved about the game.
I know many Lifers and Vets as you call them have given up on the game all together. When they went Free To Play they ruined the game for all of us that wanted to WORK for the Achievements we got and not have to go Buy Them. Disgusting to see a level 5 Riding a horse when we had to work to level 35 to get the horse. At least you earned the ride. It is just a Give Away now and a Grubby Money Hungry Turbine pushing there Over Priced LOTRO Store. Took The Fun right out of the game.. Now of course for the Cheap people that did not want to pay for a good game then you have what you have.
I for one am glad to see it go. I can not tell you how many days I waited trying to get into a group to get a piece of Rad gear only to be told you needed rad gear to get rad gear, I always thought who came up with this great idea to make people wait days for a group to get just one piece of gear ( that is if you don't belong to a kinship) when it could of been easier to tie it to deeds or make it a crafting skill. Well, I am glad it is gone, maybe I will start my sub back up and pick up where I left off.
I don't mind the removal of Rad what I do mind is that all those hours of grinding for rad and than helping all my kinnies get geared up for rad are now for nothing as the beta testers have said that the only change to the rad armor is the removal of radiance nothing else was added to the armor to make it special. This along with the upcoming changes to the LI system and the fact that every hard earned acheivement that I have made in the game is almost being given away now... makes me wonder as a longtime lifer should I continue with Lotro or start fresh?
I just 65 and have not felt the gear grind. Most of the stuff I use can be crafted, and I get plenty of drops from questing. I rarely run instances to get gear or tokens for gear. It hasnt been a barrier to leveling. I just hit 65 and have no desire to grind for gear. Mostly because better gear doesnt get me anything. I run instances once and then never again. I play through the epic story, play a little PVP, and if at that point I have nothing else to do, Ill unsub. Gear grind does not make for a game, and if that is end game, then there is no point in paying.
I bought lifetime sub in 2007. I was a deed fanatic, and as I recall I was pretty close to getting the available deeds all done (minus hidden ones). I got bored of having to do specific instances just to get into another instance which was needed to do this raid if you had the right gear.
Also, WoW dungeon finder sold me (Lotro lacked that for a while and only got it after I left). Now I'm an achievement fanatic lol

Good job, Turbine! Kudos

This pretty much killed the game for me.
I was on a raiding guild and raiding the rift 2-3 times a week.
Got a job abroad when radiance came out. When I got back to the game I couldn't raid with my friends nor explore content that I paid for.
Business wise and gameplay wise, was a very bad decision.
Too late for me since I've moved on dispite being a Tolkien fan. But maybe it's not too late for those reaching the end game as we speak.
