Rift - the first 15 minutes

I've just spent the last 15 minutes in the Beta event for Rift - first time I've been in.
You'd think that in the genesis of a new game as hyped as this one, players would be discussing game mechanics or the graphics style or game performance....but no. For those entire 15 minutes, they argued in chat about....you guessed it....how bad Wow was; how good Wow was; how WoW compared to Rift.......you get the idea.
For the love of all that's holy, will this never end.....

Not until a while after launch I would guess. Do what I do and simply ignore it or turn the channels off.

Of course it will end. Once the game is only being played by the people who payed for it the joyriding trolls will be gone.

Block and ignore the idiots, then you should get some nice relaxing time to see and try the game for yourself.
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
In general I usually just leave the level 1-10 chat channel as this poster described. Once you get to level 10, people are finally "normal"........in an abnormal way
Same thing happened in AION when it released.
Yeah all WoW-related talk goes (usually) in ''level 1-9'' chat so type /leave 4 (or /leave 5) and you're good to go
It's much better past level 10, and should be even more better after beta ends.

Game that plays exactly like WoW and you are surprised people are comparing it to WoW. Not sure what to tell you....

Good advice which will be followed - but it's the mentality that gets me. What is it with these people? Blizzard must be laughing their socks off when they read stuff like this.
i,ve just spent the last hour with 170k latency..i also saw the wow chat..kinda pisses you off but there are dicks in every beta.just /ignore and play m8.

Happens in every newbie zone in every game. Kids can"t do anything in a game without comparing it to WoW.
I just deal with it during open beta. Once the game goes live, I /ignore any player who mentions WoW in the game I am currently in. My chat box becomes way less cluttered.
You also have to remember, that a lot of the people looking for a new game are in that group of people who absolutely hate WoW. They are quite happy playing a game similar to WoW as long as it isn't WoW and as long as people will argue with them about which is better. Starting arguments in chat channels is like playing another game inside their current game. Ignore them and move on.
Had when I played it last beta. BT is blocking the game it seems.

Nope sorry. It NEVER ends. just the other night i logged into vanguard and someone metioned how they just started the game and had just quit WoW. the next hour the chat was filled with people dissing wow, discussing wow etc.
it NEVER ends. WoW chat should just be banned from all other games. So flipping tired of hearing about wow and hearing the same tired old discussions over and over.
Yes, the game isnt even released and chat is already hell, I watched it when this evening a friend tried the now open beta.
While all these stupid kids suck and you want to kick them all out of the game, on the other hand Trion isn't that innocent for wanting to attract exactly these folks (aka the WoW-crowd) with how they set up their game in general.
Open beta, anyone can play....You got people that just got in to cause problems....If you can't deal with it, i'd suggest skipping it. Once people have to pay to be there, it will get better, I am sure their may be the occasional person, but it will be 1000 times better....People usually don't pay money to troll something they don't like, or promote something they do.
The main reason i left WoW, was its terrible community, I just could not stand 90% of ppl I met with dungeon finder, and every time i red somthing in trade/general I got sick of all the crap...and then i entered Rift beta...all that idiots were now here, taliking all that crap from WoW trade channel in Rifts channels... and guess what...everything was about wow....examples:
how rift is better/worse then wow
what class is like warlock????
can I make a shadow priest?????
is there a hunter with pet???
how can i be like pala in wow?
Is mage here op like in wow??? and so on...
and yes there was a guy named worldofwarcraft...
btw i find this game to look more like warhammer and not like wow
People like this just love to stir up trouble. ^
I wish people would just play this NEW game as a NEW game without all of the unecessary comparisons. More people might enjoy it if they don't keep hammering the idea that it is a "WoW clone" into their heads and the heads of others.
Heh, if the community persists to be this chatty about this stuff... then pretty soon this game will be filled with a bad community. Everyone will be complaining about lack of creativity and what not. So yea, if this continues, the community will also be a clone of WoW's... narrow-minded, unintelligent, and pretty stupid.
Makes me hope this population goes to normal before it's to late to cancel my pre-orders. I don't want to play a game with WoW in chat every 3 minutes.
Chat was pretty much useless with all the WOW talk, cursing, name calling, and in general abusive or rude behavior.
First 15 minutes I noticed the graphics which look great, performance which is amazing and smooth, animations which seem to be well done, combat that is responsive, UI which is easy to understand, and tutorial which is very helpful. A good first impression.
I am a bit concerned though the game is just a gear chaser. Hopefully there will be more. I almost made a toon on a pvp server but decided I need to get to the know the basics first.
