Bought the Steam version yesterday and the game seems quite interesting. I like that it's story-oriented and definitely feels like a Final Fantasy game. Its drawback is the lack of other players - so quiet that it's depressing. Feels like I'm the only person left in the universe. I'm guessing it's the server I've chosen.
I play on the Shiva server. My character's name is Nevyenile. My Xfire account is EduKor or EduaKors, definitely one of those two.
Would make sense to me if Square-Enix decided to just merge all the servers into one decently populated world, unless I'm missing something and it's not possible...

The game is definitely top heavy, but just about every MMO is these days. There's quite a few people running around on titan, and it doesn't matter a whole lot since our linkshell will do everything together anyway. But, with some new updates coming and the fail of ffxiv people are returning. I don't know what level you are, but its relatively easy to get leveled back up and we are going through all the old content, so if you missed it or skipped it.. this is your chance.

As far as Abyssea, I don't know if I have access to the content, nor am I interested in powerleveling. I want to see the dunes and Quifim in all its disfunctional glory. I eventually would like to get back into sky and finish from where I left off which seems like an eternity ago.
I was looking thru Zam and FFXIencyclopedia to refresh my memory. I was amazed with all the support that this game has recieved over the years. I was greatly impressed, however, the trouble I had was that in order to get anything done you needed to have a high-pop LS to run stuff with; other than that you missed the bus. Are you putting this revival or "reform" together to show players that this is still one of the best mmo's on the market?
I forgot how deep everything about FFXI was: the quests, the classes, crafting etc.
I do need some direction, if you looked over your new roster of recruits, what are you missing? If you had to make a statement such as "this LS really could use more _________'s" what would it be?

Thats exactly the point. Its to go back and show people who may have missed out on the awesome epic experiences many of us had in Vanadiel. From the rank 3 dragon, to the shadow lord, to sky, dynamis.. etc. To getting owned by the dragon in one of the caves in Altepa desert.
Right now we are short on melee.. we have 5 healers so far, and several tanks. Imagine that! We are up to 20+ members right now in just this short time, with more joining.

Been giving it some thought and I'd like to join you all on Titan as a new character first, then maybe later reactivate and transfer my main. Only problem though, I can't get POL to load, I've been trying ever possible solution and method from dozens of forums and nothing works. Never had this issue and I last played for 7 months in 2010 Feb through Aug, so this is very odd indeed!
I'll be contacting SE Support on Mon to see if they can help me...

Steam is annoying, just bought FFXI again...wouldn't give me the option to purchase it for myself since I did from there years ago, but it said gift it too yourself instead. I did that, then when I tried to redeem it, it said I couldn't accept my own gift cause I already own the game...ARGH I wanna own it a second time damnit!~!!!! Heck I have like 9 boxes behind me from all the times I restarted just cause over the years...
Anyway, after searching through their support page I finally found that I could resend the gift again to another email, so I had to make a another email account and another steam account to finally accept the gift and get the damned CD Key that I can't even use yet since POL won't load...rofl
So much crap I had to go through all because they won't let you buy the same game twice...so stupid! And people say that signing up to FFXI through POL is bad...heh
Wow, well, I just spent the last 5 hours downloading this game from steam thanks to my terrible el cheapo connection and the hoops you have to jump through just to play this game are insane. This whole playonline thing, wtf is this lol. Suprised they didn't ask for my social security number and a recent credit report to register...then I got something called a contentID? I have no idea what I just signed up for.....Anyways, hope the game fun, still updating it (after dl/ing 8.5g worth).
EDIT: Ok now this ridiculous playonline launcher is telling it's going to take another eight hours to update the game I just spent 5.5 hours downloading from steam. Something is not right here, oh well, only $5, don't think I am going to bother finishing updating this game.
Short on melee? Hurray for me. I'll probably go either mnk or thf up to thf/sam or mnk/something when I get the bank crap figured out on Tuesday, they're closed Monday, haven't played (enough to understand) since 2005. Got to level 49 twice (rerolled on a different server due to a friend who was going to start playing but didn't) with Artifact Gloves or whatever they were at 49. Experienced very little of the story. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

My wife and I bought the steam deal, then decided to xfer our 52PLD and 52 RDM. We didn t wait even though we know we ll be charged for feb No biggie we ve been so sick of the games out there as far as MMOs go. If anyone new or returnng needs help , we ll sync and help out. We re from Bastok, so if anyone starts there we ll gladly show you the ropes, and time permitting try to safely get you to places the LS is. We both love helping and are glad to help. That said we both have alot of other jobs we want to level up as well, so we can join on almost anything. I do agree with other posts, PLD/WAR is the best tank in game, so you have one right here:) Good group of people and I think we re in for some fun times. Once again kudos on starting this.

Thanks guys. We had our first successful Valkurm Dunes party last night (which brought back memories of just how deadly IT goblins are) but it was a blast, and we had one person who had been on for about 20 hrs lol. And at any given time yesterday we had between 15-20 people on, talking and doing stuff. Good times!

Just got the game today, might be starting on Titan too. But getting a pol 2... , hope it will be fixed soon. I never played FFXI before but the fact that its more solo friendly now made me buy it. I like the old mmorpgs with EQ being favorite but always wanted to try out FFXI. I hear there a update tomorrow so really hope for a fast fix for login
