Firstly the foundry is the basis of the next game . STO is basically Alpha and Beta testing the test bed of it's next NWN incarnation.

They're using the foundry as a source of content while having only having a skeleton crew working on STO , which currently is the main income generator for Atari. In the years timeframe since this game released Cryptic hasn't added more then 20 hours of content ( that isn't for sale in the C-Store ) to the game.  ( The game began with 40 hours of content . )  They have the temerity  to charge people to fill a game with content which is thier job. Modders produce thier material and only ask for at most acknowledgement of thier work . Cryptic's taking the modders work and selling it. Once it goes live it belongs to Cryptic.

The foundry is a diversion to allow Cryptic to milk it's playerbase while moving devs to the next great project that Cryptic/Atari have. Cryptic is basically stealing intellectual property and selling it for it's profit. If it weren't the foundry missions would be availible to the general public outside the framework on the subscription.

They have NEVER EVER added any content to the STO C-Store!

Only ships (skins), races (skins) and costumes. All pretty much fluff.

And the ships in the C-store will soon be craftable via the Memory Alpha crafting system.

The retrofits are already available via ingame play.

All real content, fixes, updates, reworks have been added to the game itself!

The game was utter crap at launch. But today it's really much better. I am actually enjoying it right now! (god... would never have thought ever saying this after last years launch fiasco ).

I think the Foundry is a great idea, and it appears that it's capable of generating some interesting player-made content.  That's a nice option to have.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

Exactly. This game is a blast, and they keep making it better. I'm playing more now than ever.

It's worth a 2nd look for those that haven't played since Beta or launch.
