I played during the MO beta waaay back when. It just wasn't fun at that point in time. I haven't touched it since and I probably won't go back (I would take a look with a free trial). I went with Darkfall and now to Xsyon.
It's not a bad game (not half as bad as some people like to claim) although it has many issues. The major problem right now is the lack of meaningful content besides random PvP.
I'd say it's basically a huge PvP deathmatch arena, with some grinding required before riding out to fight the same guys you fought yesterday, and the day before that.
I spent 100 dollars on the boxed edition pre-order of MO. Thank GOODNESS I paid thru Paypal. I was refunded thru Paypal (you could only get a refund thru Paypal).
MO was a diaster. Everything was broke in that game. It was simply a half-ass scripted Unreal Real 3 MOD developed by hobbying scipters, not object oriented programmers.
Xsyon is 100 times better, simply because what's in the game (when it launches tonight) WORKS.
MO could be a quite good game if it hadnt all these bugs and broken features. But even if all worked fine, it wouldnt be something for me, because in my opinion it is too much focused on PVP. Because of that I would compare it with Darkfall (a quite good game for PVP-players) and not with Xsyon.
While not all planned features are yet in the game, Xsyon is a well-rounded product. It is playable and has an internal logic of its own. Basically if the devs stopped working on it right now you'd have a game that you can actually play and even enjoy - not a very rich or even polished game but definitely playable.
Imo the only thing missing from beta is the "world clock" (or whatever they call it) which slowly degrades gear and structures and respawns plants, animals and resources. They're turning it on now so I guess the game is getting "basic feature complete" as we speak.
p.s. and the engine in Xsyon is much better suited for open world. I simply couldn't stand the "magical grass" miraculously springing up wherever i deigned to venture. MO's engine choice imo is one of the worst decisions I ever saw by an independent developer.

I played the MO beta. Worst experience of my life.
Worst game in MMO history without a doubt.

Xsyon works. MO doesn't.
That's pretty much it.
