best grouping MMO, where everything has not been made solo able?

DimexDimex Member UncommonPosts: 27

Everquest or Final fantasy XI or some else that is even better ?

Im an old time Everquest player, but i have heard that it has been made way too easy, when i left 5 years ago, it was already started to become to easy.

What im looking for is a game where one have to work in groups to kill mobs that give XP. ( like old EQ where green mobs dont give XP, but you had to make up a realy good fight to defeat them)

The rison why: all those solo MMO's dont make a wery good comunity. It is a great way to learn new peaple when the group has some down time, vile wating for the next pull or for the cleric to mana back up.

I was a long term EQ player and understand completely what you mean. Lack of downtime and the increase in solo content has just made for games that you don't really need to be online to play anymore.

I'd suggest having a look at Eve Online to be honest. It's a harsh place but if you have a look around their are some great communities of friendly people. That is if you can get past the steep learning curve and lack of rules. There are a fair few good corps for new players to join and learn the ropes, have a good time and really start to be part of the community.

You also need to be open to the idea that catching up both doesn't matter and will never happen.

If you want a RAF invite (21 days, instead of 14 for a trial) feel free to PM me.

    *Edit

EQ also just launched a progression server or two. So you can go back and play like it's 1999 all over again. Expansions become active every 3 months or something like that. So you've got a good year before it starts to really ease things up.

I have played alot of EVE online, and it is great, but i have come to point where all missions in high sec is easy solo for me. I have a great danish corp(guild) but i always end up soloing some missions and then log off.

I still miss that EQ group with a puller out getting mobs.

Once upon a time I would have said FFXI, but recent changes combined with upcoming ones make the game pretty much a very boring solo game now.

I, too, love games where the majority of the content cannot be completed without a group, but unfortunately that is not the trend in MMOs right now. Grouping is usually reserved for dungeons and raids while the rest just boils down to quest grinds.

I think your best bet would be Dungeons and Dragons Online. While dungeons are soloable, there are multiple difficulties to each dungeon, and there are major incentives to beating each dungeon on every difficulty, so it is never difficult to find a group. The problem is, though, that many people want to run through dungeons as fast as possible...like whiplash fast...leaving no room for socialization, or even really experiencing the content. You can usually avoid those groups with the awesome group finder tool, though.

Rift puts you in huge groups all the time, but people rarely talk in them. Rift/invasion groups are really just solo play where strangers heal you a bunch. I have had good experiences with parties in the Rift dungeons though. Don't know how much that will change when the dungeon finder comes out.

Other than that, EQ just launched a progression server, so if you are truly missing the old days you can go and (sort of) experience them again. Watch out for the community, though, I have heard that they do not seem to be very welcoming to the new/rusty returner.

lol that's the problem with your first MMO that you fell in love with while you wish your current MMO was like it you go back to it and you're like DAMN THIS IS UGLY! Sorta like marriage after 60 years... Ok I'm kidding.

If you have a good system, may want to check out Aion.  They have been having lots of 2x experience to attract more players (and retain current), so grouping there will yield tons of experience in the instances they have.  Vintage setup usually.. tank, healer, 2 dps and CC/buffs.  The drag on Aion is the grinding feel after lev 40, but earlier levs are a blast and grouping mechanics are well polished.
