Worth Buying?

So, do you guys think this game is worth putting my money into?

Will it survive at least a year?

Is there enough content to entertain?

Is there a skill cap on how many (total) skill levels a player can have? Or can players max out everything?

Is there a reason for combat, war etc?

First advice is not to hang on mmorp.com but go on the xsyon forums and check things out.

Will it survive at least a year? : yes, original he wanted to launch (or hoped for)  500 players growing to 5000 a few months later. pre-launch headstart is now (guesstimate) 1500+ strong.  causing unforseen trouble whit the server load and hence explaining the delay we have whit the official launch that is moved to the 15th.

Is there enough content to entertain?: if you like building up whit a tribe, some animal hunting and comunity social play then yes, if you expect npcs (humanoids) dev build quest , caves and raids. then no

Is there a skill cap on how many (total) skill levels a player can have? Or can players max out everything? : there is a soft cap, meaning you could master it all -but- there is skill decay, meaning you can only maintain so many skills before it becomes to much -work- to maintain it all. a strong anti-macro policy is in place to prefent the few skills that could be macro'd

Is there a reason for combat, war etc? : mostly land and resorces however in the first months that reason will most likely only for your name and honour.

This is a "Sim,rpg, pvp, world bulding game"  Its Indy, it has bugs it needs time to grow.

the comunity is great (ofc always a few buggerbears around)  and helpfull but the game is not for anyone who needs their hand hold. there will not be a single npc whota ! above its head showing oyu the way.  you learn by asking, looking at some of the comunity made vids on youtube and reading the forums.

Definately. It's a well made crafting game and if you have any interest in this style of game, you'll be thanking Notorious Games for giving us another true great sandbox game.

A Tale in the Desert and Wurm Online have both been around for 5 years now, both are independent games with low maintenance costs and a slow development cycle. Having played both A Tale in the Desert and Wurm, Xsyon is much more user friendly, has a much better UI for crafting and just plays better overall. Xsyon can easily last 5 years as other similar games have before it.

Hard to answer at this stage. With so much content arriving in the next few weeks, it's certainly going to keep people entertained for a long while. I've played beta for a week and I'm still progressing my character, making new items all the time and judging by what Ive seen people constructing there's alot to see and do in the game right now.

I believe there's a soft cap, not sure how it all works. But I do know that stats and skills degrade overtime when you don't use them, so trying to be a jack of all trades will be very time consuming, as other skills increases, it has a negate effect on other skills I believe. I'm not sure how possible it is to be skilled with everything, but Notorious Games want players to specialise in certain crafts and rely on other players or tribes to fill in areas you can't do.

Yep, if you're in a good location, a tribe whose goal is to PVP can camp you area, kill your tribe members who leave the safey of their tribe land and try to push them away from the area so they can claim the resources for themselves. In a few months when players settle into the game, the PVP safety flags will be removed so that the only safety you have from PVP is either running or building a defensive camp with moats and walls included to keep the enemy out.

Unless your totally into the game, and are not easily bored or fustrated, wait out the prelude, join after that.

Currently a lot of crafting functions serve no purpose, as the related systems are not in yet.  You can make tents, but they do nothing yet ect.

There is a lot to do crafting wise regardless, there are many steps to crating any one object.

If you are interesting in the combat side of the game, theres more reasons to wait it out a bit.  Combat is very limited, and not just with the placeholder combat system.  Theres few weapons to be made, and the preoder starter weapons are soulbound, on top of that, there is really nothing to kill in the game, aside other people.  More mobs comming soon.  Still have yet to see a critter to kill, but have killed a few people lagging in my area.  Looting seems to be a bit limited, adn theres a bug involved, which usually results in the body dissapearing before you really get much off of it.

It still feels like a sandbox with a ton of sand in it as is, however im not sure how long the rest of the content will take, possibly 6-12 months...thats a lot of time to craft baskets, clothes and tents.  Nothing decays yet, so once you have it, and you keep it in your safe zone....no real reason to make more other than to skill your craft....however skilling is a very time consuming process.

So far, when the servers are not completely lagged out, the game is still fun.  It is something diffrent.  However if your prone to rage quits, hate not having combat, or hate crafting...definitly wait this one out a bit.

So far ive done nothing but craft a few items, most useless more or less.  Done some exploring, scavanged and collected a large cashe of stuff, chased a few people away, killing one.  Other than that, im not really sure what ill be doing for 2 months...probably terraforming and mabey trying to make a cool looking camp.  I hope that provides enough entertainment to last untill they release mobs and the rest of the content.

I think peple will have a better idea of its long term viability once we can play without 1min-5min delays on all actions.  That should be comming soon, after the wipe.  Only then will we see a real effort to make some progress, and test the games long term enjoyability.

So unless your a hardcore sandbox fan, and love to craft/play house...give this game some time to settle in, save yourself the negative feelings your going to get.

This game really does have a lot of potential already in it, and they are going to add more, which will make it all come together.  The question is....how long will it take to get a full game?
