There is no magic and evidently no magic "school" in Star Wars.
However, there are differences between the different force users in how they use the force. Jedi will likely use more telekinetic and buffing force powers than the Sith, who might be more about force lightning, draining health and so forth.
In the "Designing the Dark / Light side" videos this was also kind of shown: both Jedi & Sith can do damage & heal, but the visual effects that their abilities have are drastically different.
Also, I don't know if you meant that, but TOR will have different "damage types" like in other MMO's. Not the magical ones, but things like energy damage, physical damage, acid. Stuff like that is in, I think the exact types are hanging around somewhere on Darth Hater.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
This has to be one of the best trolling posts ever devised.
"Hey guis, does Star Trek have Magic, like World of Warcraft".
I've got to add it to my list of best played questions, sort of like asking on a Star Wars forum if Kirk or Picard was the best Jedi.
It was Picard, obviously.
Hell no, it was Gandalf.
Anyway, I do hope that the damage system will be diverse and allow for different resistances. I could imagine plenty of skills which can be diversified into fire, electric, shock / blunt and maybe cold damage.

as much as i LOVED (past tense) bioware they are not as good as you think these days.
anyone remember dragon age origins trailers?
'its gonna be all about choices' , 'this game will give you more important choices than any other game to date'.
and what we got? the game didnt have more choices than completely actiony mass effect or older kotor1-2. and thats only counting their own created games.
i seriously doubt dragon age 2 gonna change that considering its even more action and less rpg than the first one.
whats the problem with that however?
they pretty much advertised and sold their game mainly on the 'choices' idea.
they know people love choices so they will advertise those while actually not giving anything new.
in conclusion - swtor will most likely have as much choices as singleplayer rpgs before that. at best. surely thats quite an achievement since there wasnt a mmo that could offer that.
just being realistic.
note: im not saying bioware games are bad, they are good, just not the thing they advertise.

Strange, but I guess it's all down to taste. I felt that all BioWare games have given more choice than any other game I've played. Except sandbox type games like Oblivion. However the choice there was....walk left to generic ruin, (not a bad thing, it just is generic), or walk right to strange cottage and knock some plates around until the owner comes home and 'Stop thief! You've broken the...' You get the idea. I seemed to get that alot. Guard brutality!
Failed robberies aside though, Dragon Age did have choice you just probably didn't notice it. For me to totally take it all in I had to play another character in a different scenario with different morals. It does change things, and warewolves are so much cooler as allies in battle than elves. Oh, yeh, spoiler.
Combat is the only thing I'd be worried about from BioWare, as many of their games combat felt like MMO's....ah...no worries then.
Note: ME2 had Awesome combat.
Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3
never said it didnt have choice. i said it didnt have more choices than a lot of decent rpgs before dragon age.... while their selling point was exactly 'more choices than you have seen before'.
i just finally finished witcher. and what? it came before dragon age and i dont see that much difference in complexity of choices.
kotor 1-2
jade empire
gothic series in general
fallout
mass effect
yes some of these had less dialogs, but in terms of CHOICE not really much difference.
maybe im just picky, but i just really hate lots of certain biowares choices of past few years.
yes that includes making of swtor instead of kotor 3.
As in the middle of the alignment? sure can. You can be anywhere from a goodie goodie to completely dark sided jedi. Theres a quote, i'll find it in a second.
( You can play as a Neutral character such as a Grey Jedi, Confirmed - Bioware/Holonet)
Grey Jedi. For those who only have time to be a Jedi one month out of the year? Or for those who like open relationships so they can still see other alignments on the side? Seems a bit of a silly idea, at least for someone playing a fully leveled Jedi character.
Im not all that familiar with Star Wars lore, Ill admit. After playing the xbox game at a friends behest, I asked him why I have to be good or evil, why cant I walk the balance of the two? He said there were such a thing as grey jedi who werent aligned with anyone and dabbled with both sides, and that appeals to me.
Good and evil are so cut and dry. Id prefer to play a grey jedi because i feel it suits my personality to adapt to the suitiation, not just make arbitrary decisions to save my alignment.

I think swtor will have more choices than dragon age
what *I* found with DA is that I never wanted to play a second character
finished with the first.. had lotsa fun and in the end was done
tried starting a second but it just seemed too familiar
i think the fact that there will be factions in swtor makes it more interesting
I want to own property too
