Those customers who have pre-ordered Rift can now download the client for the head start scheduled to begin on Thursday, February 24th. For those preferring to wait for the full retail launch, the game will get the full blown green light on March 1st.
Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at 10:00 AM PST (1800 GMT) through launch (North America: Mar. 1, at 10:00 AM PST / Europe: Mar. 4, at 1600 GMT).
The forces of the Ascended will soon swell with new recruits as everyone who has pre-ordered RIFT will be able to join in the defense of Telara. Guardians and Defiant alike will take up arms as the six planes invade and the battle against the Blood Storm begins.
If you have the RIFT beta client on your hard drive, be sure to uninstall it before installing RIFT.
Steam™ & Amazon® download customers – If you’ve already downloaded the client from Steam or Amazon, there’s no need to download it again. Just make sure your game is patched!
Pre-order customers – Please remember, you must have a Product Registration Code applied to your account to continue access when RIFT launches (North America: Mar. 1, 2011 / Europe: Mar. 4, 2011).

So currently the game for me is only 142 mb on Steam. Is anyone else seeing that? I'm thinking I just need to occasionally check to see if it needs updated before the head start...
It was only 20MB...

Yeah, same here, will check it out tomorrow.
I believe on steam its just the launcher, so you'll need to still download the game, if its anything like beta it'll prob be released the day before for download and patching
Ok cool. Thx.
Well, like I said, DSL sucks.
Surely the entire game will be many gigabytes.

I did enjoy my time in the beta's, but I just can't wrap my head around the multiple souls thing. If I want to be a riftstalker or whatever, the other 2 souls take away from my being the best I can be at soulstalker, yet they give you all 3 souls practically right off the bat, so you aren't focusing on one class (or at least, that's the impression the game gives you). You can, of course, but, I don't know...
eric...
If you want to just use riftstalker than all you do is concentrate your soul points in that soul. Having the other two souls does not take away from riftstalker and you can basically choose to ignore them and just concentrate on riftstalker in terms of how many points you want to allot.
you can focus entirely on a different soul if you want, its really just what playstyle you like it all comes down to.
Now that Rift is actually going to be released, the Rift forums here will turn to troll circle-jerk since all the people who enjoy the game will be too busy playing.
To those that are playing:
Good luck. Have fun!
He who keeps his cool best wins.
Ok will do... Thanks!
As for the rest of your post, you are oh so right...
Not quite true.
At level 2, you have one Soul and 2 pts. You put those 2 pts into the one Soul. At level 3, you get an additional 1 pt and still have the single Soul. At level 4, you get 2 additional pts and the second Soul. You cannot put those 2 pts into the main Soul. You are level capped on points. So you will end up putting 1 pt into the second Soul.
This changes as you can put 51 pts into a tree at 50 to get the 51 pt talent. Keep in mind though, you get 66 pts at 50 - so you would still have 15 pts to put into the two other trees as you wish.
You cannot make a "pure" Soul - short of not using those additional 15 pts.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20%
I still can't update/download the client. Perhaps EU is not ready yet.
about the souls .. at lvl 17 or something you can pick up easy and fast quests to get access to all 8 souls of a class. In addition you can have up to 4 configurations you can store with an out of combat change of 2 seconds. First role you start with, second is 30g, third is about 4 plat .. fourth i have no idea
Google soul tree calculator and pick the one from zam, it seems up to date and looks just like the one in game.
At first i spent lots of time trying to figure out what souls to pick as i only thought each character could only have three.. Glad i was wrong! Now you only need four characters in total to access every class and subclass. The only thing you cant have is the racial abilties so pick wisely!
Just two more days of widrawal .. anyone got a countdown timere? :'(
It seems to be just the launcher for now, I suspect while the account management pages are down we will be unable to log in and download the client proper.
not quite, the quests in the beta were just placeholders
minor fix to your statement, at lvl 2 you get 2 points and at lvl 3 you get 2 points. then every 3 lvls after that you get 2 points. least thats how it was for me in beta.
I felt your pain about three years ago. Now I download between 1-3mb/second. Time to upgrade my friend. It is definitely worth the money.
Just Choose Rifstalker first and simply don't put any points into the other two you have to choose. You can even take the free skills/abilities that the other two give you off your hotbar. Voila, you are now only a Riftstalker.
The other two souls are optional, not mandatory. That said, eventually you will have spent all 51 of the 66 skill points you get in Riftstalker (each soul can only take 51 points to max) and you'll have 15 points left over. Would seem a bit of a waste to just leave them floating. With the 51 spent You'll be the "best" Riftstalker you can be and if you spend the other 15 in another sould you'll be that much better.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

I forget what the total size of the final launch client is, but around 12-14 gigs, I believe. There's good news and bad news with that. If you haven't uninstalled the beta client yet (which, unfortunately, you were told to do), you should be able to move the assets folder (and only that folder) out of the beta directory and stick it anywhere, uninstall the beta client, install the live client, then move that assets folder into the live client's directory. That'll shave 7 gigs off of your download, just leaving you with the updates.
Abigale posted on the Rift forums that we will be able to download the whole client tonight!
I am very impressed with the Communication between devs and Players.
Let the fun begin!
