Warning if you are thinking of buying

The patcher seems to randomly bug out when downloading content.  For some, they download and are ready to go instantly.  For others, data is constantly lossed if patcher is stops for any reason, computer restarts by itself, etc. There is no pause button either.  There are two options, update and recover, that pertain to restarting an update.  Using neither will not recover/recognize downloaded data.  If your connection is slower, like mine is 768/256 (stfu already if you make lame comments about affording higher speeds - this is the only speed AVAILABLE), and I get around 60 - 70 kbps. it takes 35 - 40 hours.  I have now downloaded both a 3 gig download  and then a 6 gig download (at 60 - 70 kbps), both times the patcher had to be restarted and both times all that data was not recognized; despite being the proper size in kb and right there on my computer's harddrive.

Before I hear some lame responses like, "you don't know what you are doing," or "must be something wrong with your system."  This has been a well known bug with the patcher in beta, and it occured when I also downloaded the beta.  Unfortunately, the game was good once I was able to play it in beta, but I pre-ordered the game for headstart and now I won't be able to participate in headstart.  I'm doing a chargeback if they do not issue a refund; I suggest you pursue the same route if you are having the same problems.

I thought this was going to be about the random crashes and having to requeue for 2-3 hours to get back in...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

This is, in fact, the problem. All you have to do is transfer the "assets" folder to the most recent patcher download folder and you can resume the download. I did it today. At first I freaked out like you, then I looked on the Rift forums and realized it's an easy fix. Not worth "Warning" everybody not to buy the game.

I can understand the interest in trying to get into the headstart but if your download speed is this limited why not just buy the physical copy of the game and play on the 1st of March. Why did you even attempt this. It seems torturous to even consdier.

I did every solution offered, including that. None worked.

Do even CC companies allow charge backs from such things? When a client is having a problem that is on his side how can they allow a charge back? I'm sure Trion has clauses for this in their EULA.

As far as I know they are bound to contact the seller, Trion in this case, and try to "resolve the issue" before they allow it, I had to do it once and it was a long and uncomfortable process. Maybe it's easier in other countries than mine, since the charge backs are meant as a means to shield the customer from fraud.
