When I was betaing Rift, I had a major problem with my video card, the game would be playing then it would go black come back, a min later go black again come back, 30 sec later go black come back repeat until the game just crashed on me completely. My computer kept saying my video card had failed.
Now that was my issue, I ask if this is continuing... I really dont want to waste my money if this game is gonna continue to fail like it did in beta.

My Gigabyte 6850 is doing just fine. Running 11.2 CCC drivers. Been getting 40-45 fps most of the time on ultra w/shadows but no AA. See my sig for my specs.
ATI is now owned by AMD. Henceforth you should call them AMD cards.
So a AMD Radeon HD 3800 should work fine?
My 5770 works fine with rift. No problems whatsoever so far.
Thank you for the input... this game looked interesting and almost enough to hold me till TOR when I tested it if not for that glaring error.
Had no problems at all during the beta, with my Raden 6800 HD
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
5870 works like a charm, tried with everything maxed out on a 1920x1080 res and still got good fps.
Had some problems during beta 5 I think but now it is gone
I had the same issue. I would play and eventually my screen goes black with my monitor saying "No Signal."
I think I've fixed it, but I'm not sure. Haven't crashed in 5 hours since I tweaked it, so it looks promising. I'm running a 4850 with an E8400 and 4gb of RAM.
What I did was I went into CCC in ATI Overdrive and manually set my clock speeds to 625 MHz GPU and 900 MHz memory. By default it was 625 MHz GPU and 993 MHz memory. Googling around I saw reports of crashes at the default clock speeds, so I gave this a try. Your mileage may vary.
In beta had no issues with 4870...
See that you have the latest drivers in any case.
ignore the one saying you should call them amd1yes the driver are on amd site but make no mistake in actuality ati is the power behind the great graphic achievement.amdf alone?they would be dudering fool .ati is the might, the brain that give us great graphic card.i hope amd doesnt6 do the fool mistake of thinking they can replace ati with their owen staff now that they own ati.
amd cant!ati is great because of all the great mind in atio stable!amd have yet to prove to us they can make a cpu that will supply the ati graphic card with enough cpu strenght to actually follow the computational power of ati card
Played for 11 hours straight yesterday at 1650x1050 with the graphics set to Ultra. This is with my Saphire 4870 with 2GB of onboard memory, which managed 26-34 FPS under these conditions. My rig is about 2 years old, Win7 64 bit. Not a crash, hickup, or texture glitch in sight.
Played the last two betas on a 4870x2 and had no issues.
They figured out what the issues were with ATI prior to the last beta. It's something to do with ATI drivers. I can't run anything that uses the Unreal Engine 3 if I use the latest revision of the driver (10.12, which is included in the 10.12 & 11.1 packages).
Now I just need a new processor and I'm good to go.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
My ATI HD4850 512meg has historically had 'issues' with extremely hi quality graphics - it runs fine, but after a while has been known to occasionally simply switch off/ Infuriating.
It's fairly obviously a heat issue.
So after quite a bit of research, I found that ATI trypically sets the default behavior for it's on-card cooling fan at...23% or some really low number so it's "quiet". Nuts!
So go into ATI Catalyst and make sure OD is OFF.
Then d/l and run the latest MSI afterburner. I kicked my oncard fan up to 75% and sure, it's a little louder but I can play with all settings turned up and it's gloriously cool.
Never had any problems running Rift with all maxxed out on my 5970. It only uses one GPU but still decent fps.
Issue was with AMD 10.10 drivers. Which was hotfixed with 10.10e. So this issue has long been fixed. I never had it in beta or alpha on my 4890.
My AMD Radeon HD 3850 had exactly the same problems. Black screen, on, off then eventually crashes. Only way to get it to work was to run on low settings.
same thing here what is throttling me isnt my ati 5770 its the freaking processor!i wish i knew enough about procssor to adjust the various setting like affinity etc!espacially with a cpu like an x2 550 !(some core not working)default setting isnt great .
For me, reducing the ground clutter had the biggest impact on performance with the smallest noticable difference in visual quality. If you mouse over each of the settings, they'll say either 'GPU' or 'GPU/CPU'. The 'GPU/CPU' settings are the ones that put load on your CPU.
You can also run on the 'Low Quality Renderer'. This more than doubled my framerates to about 115fps. It has a pretty dramatic impact on your visual quality though. I don't think I could even enable shadows.

Not always guarenteed succes hehe.
Just seek driver that works fine.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Latest drivers sometimes cause problems with games. I'd say find a newer one that works and stick with that.
