You can't just skip quests in Rift like you can do in other games (like WAR and Darkfall where you can PVP at creation). You must do quests or you will not have your first set of souls or get off the newbie island. How does that feel to not have an alternitive route of progression at creation?
The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

While Rift not being the next MMO for me, I have to say that the starter areas were great and well done both in the terms of fun and letting you get to grips with your class. They went so fast that skipping them wasn't an issue.
In most game's you start off almost naked and have to do the noob quests to get atleast SOME gear. You only have to invest like 30-40 mins doing a few quests to get all your souls......
After acquiring my first three souls...(took less than an hour as I remember) ...I pretty much did some quests and ran about farming leather and cloth and doing rifts to get essences(and planarites for later) so I could craft leather armor better than I had been awarded through any quest (so far).
Didn't feel force fed to me at all as I was having too much fun...and even if linear questing was used ......obtaining the first three took about one-tenth of my playing time yesterday. Perfectly acceptable to me.
Really sad when the OP rage quits at level 4 because it is not a sandbox LOL
