So far seems like an interesting sandbox, but just don't see much content here.
1 Week Review and it was insanely hard to get a feel on this game.
You log in and want to get involved but servers are always down doing server reboots, even if you get in and try to learn, they rollback you to non existance.. One session, I spent 3 hours just trying to create a character, couldnt even finish it, they kept rebooting the server so many times and so quickly. When I did get logged in, so many rollbacks were occurring for testng I was unable to advance creating past my first couple of items, to see if I would even continue existing here. I'd pick some grass or scavenge items only to have them restart and lose everything i just did... They gave no time for any settling or progresss, something I consider rude in a pre-order environment. They should reboot every 3 hours and roll back 30 minutes or something, but did they? no they run them for 10 minutes and rollback for 9... (insane) which is what they were doing for hours on end before I said phuck it and gave up.
They devs seem cool on forums, but also seem to abuse their testers, being lazy with code exceptions and very minute patches over patches or not having a testbed due to probably what is lack of funding. Tried to get a feel but have to pay them to be their tester and not get sufficient play, At this time I would say don't pre-order this title. You definately would be paying them to test their game and be their test dummy that they dont care about. I dont agree with this concept. Even though they might give an extra week here and there when things go bad. They are just using you at this point, and so far this company seems to have nil care to the livlihood of this game... I wouldnt treat my testers this way.. thats for sure.
The community is failing quickly.. What seems like a community trying to work together is quickly overrun with the typical fanboy "why are you here", or "log off" replies everytime you feel like giving some feedback or criticism basically being the typical parasites kids have become online ceasing any communication from taking place. Supposedly they are removing global chat from this game which can only be a plus. But the local chat is a little too far and turning towards spam and nonsense bickering the closer to launch this game gets
From what i gather, its a massive crafting based game, and not so sure combat is even really existant, seems like overpowered kids who live in the game run 5 times faster then you and beat you into death and take your tools so you can't progress at all, in what is suppose to be a advenure game, the game seems to force you near the debris piles only located in a circle around the starting locations, in which case is all griefer city.. There is no action / repercussion here.. you are basically fish in a barrel to some kids who spend their lives in this virtual apocalyptic world. I have yet to meet one person who hasnt seen me and not start commencing battle to still my starter shirt.
As for some adventuring i did get to, I think i seen one wildlife creature (a bear) in 3 days of wandering... Which was all you could do cuz once you lose your tools and your bag, which seem to happen randomly just by logging off, makes you worthless without having to re-roll.. another mechanic problem that shouldnt exist in a game nearing release.. doesnt anyone do paperwork anymore? the basics? i mean nearing launch and you already have exploit problems where the entire community is just going to re-roll spam buckets and create tools, rinse wash repeat?
Something tells me launch is going to be a exploitation nightmare, just setting this game up for the classic cheat community to overrun the game and wont be punished because it will be the majority. Oh well what can you do?
Anyhow, seems interesting, but not sure enough is here to hold on to any age old gamer.... Can basic stickman pvp be tolerated for months on end? If so, start creating your castle, but join a clan and be part of the masses, cuz as a small group you will be horsefeed as soon as you login with nowhere to run

Man... the game is currently not even in beta...
HOWEVER it was in beta a week ago and I was there and I saw it work and work well.
At the moment it is in server stress test phase where they keep crashing the server every hour or so to see if any problems with data corruption occur so they can put in safeguards etc etc. The main dev announced this, he's keeping the players up to date and everything is pretty fair so far.
The game's existing server ran into problems due to a huge unexpected influx of new players who bought the game because of very positive word-of-mouth from folks who were into beta. I don't really know how you can present this in a negative light - the game is having technical difficulties because it is BETTER than anyone expected and more popular than devs expected as well.
And we even got 2 weeks extra free time for our trouble.
A word of advice - do NOT buy this game right now. Us folks from beta know what the game is like when it works so we tend to be patient with the devs knowing that they'll fix this eventually. The new players who first log in right now might get a very skewed perception of the game. Believe it or not, these crashes are intentional - they are there for a purpose, the devs even announce them before they happen. In my time during beta I didn't experience ONE server crash or ONE crash to desktop. I'm confident that's going to be the norm once they move to the new server with all the new safeguards in.
In short, the game is great but DON'T BUY IT NOW. Wait at least until this server crash test phase is over and they do the final server wipe. At the moment people in the game are just helping out the testing by hanging around so the team can see what's happening with data during crashes and all. If that is not your idea of fun then stay away till the game moves to a new server (which should happen in a few days).
.. as to OP, he's basing his review on a server stress test version of the game with most stuff turned off... man, that's so dumb it's not even funny.
How is it possible to review a game that hasn't even been released, I'm not the most patient man in the world but even I can hold my critisisms till a game comes out.
What's wrong with you man? Chill. If you can't stand the rollbacks and all then go take a walk in the park and wait for the game to move to the new server. You're annoyed with waiting and now go all hack n slash at the game. Jeez.. Take a chill pill lol and enjoy the thought of two extra free weeks once it goes live.
ok op shouldn't review it now but to one of the people replaying.
"It's useless as the game is still in beta with half the features turned off." How many times did we hear that?
{mod edit}
The past week was possibily the worst week to long on, with probably the majority of people not bothering to log on. The servers were being tested for stability and rollbacks, so they were being constantly taken down and forced down to recreate situations where a rollback (improper saves) would happen.
The lag was also on purpose, because when Release part Deux occured there was so much lag and it really messed up the server. This occured only when major lag hit the server, so Jordi wanted to recreate the lag so he could see the problems and fix it.
Now, if you read any of the posts in Announcements on the official web site, or read any of the threads talking about this in the Prelude section you would know, but you did not.
This tells me you are not an informed person, and quite frankly have no business making reviews.
Well yeah, but no one is trying to get anyone to actually buy the game now. I'm saying DON'T buy the game now. Wait till stuff gets sorted and then check it out.
Don't believe me and don't believe the OP. Don't "believe" anybody right now. Just get off the hype train. Imo the game's quality will determine its ultimate fate and whatever I or anyone else says in these reviews won't impact the game's success much because this game is working on a long-haul model. EVE had a rocky start and wasn't much of a game to look at.. I'm not saying that Xsyon is a new EVE or anything like it - I'm just saying that long term appeal and long-time word-of-mouth sales are much more important than initial hype in this kind of a game.
Again, DO NOT buy the game now.
Hopefully people who wait won't get the pre-order bonuses. I am not saying that I want people to suffer, but I think those who have stuck with the game, and risked their money deserve to get something out of it.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
OP you certainly need to read the forums. . they are crashing the servers and doing roll backs etc to test for the data corruption that happened during the planned pre-release. . it is not even head start yet. They are going to do one final wipe soon and then you should be formulating your thoughts of the game. At least you should not be posting on the server restarts.
Wait a week and try again. . I am not even playing until they get that crap fixed.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
It's a good sand box op give em a break !
MAGA
Well it will be a good sandbox when 90% of the things you make actually have a use. They state that all of this will come with tribal wars in 6-9 months, however this is comming from the same people who said launch was close last april.
You have to be a total die hard fan to enjoy whats been going on. Even if you knew that when they say "early access for prelude" they mean beta. Do not be fooled, this is a game in alpha. If your ok with this, and dont mind what the OP states, which is all true, then jump on in.
They took the servers down for about 2 days to fix the above mentioned problems, server is still going down often, with very few players in game. Something is seriously wrong with the client, the servers (even after the fix) and the code in general. We are not getting the whole picture from the developer.
The plan was to launch with a final wipe march 1st. Its not looking so good, and if you factor in the fact that they have been doing this, attempling to launch prelude (a fraction of the content and systems) since the summer, well you have to assume that its going to be a while.
Some people are pissed, rightfully so. Theres a whole crew of players who joind this month, after hearing about the game via viral advertisements here, seeing the offer of 2 months for $40 and early access for the prelude. Never did it mention they are in an early testing phase and that the game was largly unplayable.
I still support this game, and what it is trying to do, however it is in ALPHA, be aware of this.
Also, the servers are not full as they were in early februrary, as many people decided to just come back later. We dont know whats going to happen should they get this game in a launch ready state. What happend last time this scenario happend is still being felt now. To clarify what i mean, what will happen when more than expect show up. Last time this happend the game was unplayabe for...well still is...the game was playable before people showed up and it was largly dead in game. All these fixes going on, are being tested by a small crowd atm, people are waiting for launch, and when it hits i hope the cleint and servers will be able to handle it all, since it wasnt able to last time.
Even if they get the game playable, stable, and without wipe...you have a good 9 months (im predicting 12-14 months as they have already stated the difficulty in adding new content to the system) untill anything has any real use. All crafted structures are purely visual, some crafting skills are missing, NPC mobs go extinct (or near extinct) within 15min of the servers going up after a wipe. There simply isnt enough to do for the next 9 months, and thats if they can get this game to launch ready.
This is just a warning, know what you are getting yourself into, and if you like the concept and the idea enough, then go for it.
Im already $40 deep into the game, however if they cant get the beta launched within a week or two, im more than ready just to cut my losses and go play something playable like earthrise (yes see what i did there).
Snail, get a refund or sell your account.
But please get off the forums. This is not, nor will ever be a PvP-centric "tribal warfare" game. Please get over it and get off it.
To the rest of the crew - do not buy this game right now. It is in a server crash test phase with most of the stuff turned off. They're basically switching the basic server on and off to see what happens with the data. Stay away. Wait for release or at least until after the final wipe.
I'm normally a very tolerant and understanding person, but sometimes I do wish that people would at least look around a little bit before they actually buy a game.
The server crashes and rollbacks are intentional, planned, and a sadly necessary thing right now. Jooky is using the opprotunity to fix bugs that come up, and he stated this several times in the forum.
"They devs seem cool on forums, but also seem to abuse their testers, being lazy with code exceptions and very minute patches over patches or not having a testbed due to probably what is lack of funding. This was not a testing phase. Nor was it a play phase. Jooky was upgrading and stabilizing the servers.
"The community is failing quickly.. No, it's not. The community is mostly still thriving, friendly, and growing. It's not the small, tightly-knit group it used to be, but it's easily one of the most helpful I've seen in a MMO.
Due to the server move and testing, most players aren't really taking anything seriously now. What's the point in building something if it's all going to be gone tomorrow anyway? Even I myself have mostly just spent the last week wandering around Lake Tahoe brawling with people. Understand, this is not really the best time to be playing the game, nor is it a typical game experience. Just sort of an interlude until we re-headstart.
I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say here. You start the paragraph talking about wandering and you end it ranting about "exploits."
Something tells me launch is going to be a exploitation nightmare, just setting this game up for the classic cheat community to overrun the game and wont be punished because it will be the majority. Oh well what can you do?
Now it seems you've just devolved to spouting random, unconnected sentences. I guess this is where I'll end this.
In my palm I hold the world, in my hand I grasp it.
I loosened my fist but for an instant,
and thus I failed to clasp it.
I don't entirely mean to get offensive here, but you're a complete retard.
One--
The game isn't out yet.
Two--
The community of Xsyon is the most "perfect" I've ever seen, and take this from someone who hates the word of perfection.
Three--
The developpers pay attention and listen to the players, they're not jackasses like Blizzard. We got what we paid for.
Four--
This is a stres phase, beta ended awhile ago. Basically, you can only explore. It's in complete and utter sandbox mode, stuff can be done, but it'd be silly.
Five--
You have a low IQ for writing a review before the game is even out, you tool.
the game doesnt state that its in beta, they call it prelude. we are all suppose to be enjoying a headstart on launch of prelude....right now.
Your here instead of there because the game is too laggy to play or the servers are down, which is why im here and not there.
Take it down a notch, this isnt the xsyon forums, you get banned quick for posts like that.
enjoy the viral marketing quest!
This is not the prelude, nor is this the headstart. Both were pushed back due to server issues. Unfortunate? Yes. Apocalyptic? No.
You seem to be personally offended for some reason, and I'm not quite sure why. I'm fairly sure the poster above you was replying to the OP, not yourself.
In my palm I hold the world, in my hand I grasp it.
I loosened my fist but for an instant,

I played the game for several weeks before the latest testing. That's why I wrote a beta review, after several weeks of great play with no crashes, we went into the first release. That's when I wrote the review.
We found out that a massive number of people started downloading the game, right when the game launched, and this caused massive lag. The lag showed up some bugs that hadn't shown up before, so the devs are taking the time to fix all of those. Now they have added new download servers, so that problem is gone. They are still crashing and lagging the server, trying to ferret out the last bugs.
In my review, I clearly stated that the game didn't have all the features turned on yet, and I still rated it a 7.0. The game is fun now, and will only get better.
Although the constant crashing and lagging is frustrating, we know that this is real beta testing. Whatever you do now doesn't count for the final game, so now is a great time to explore, try stuff out that you'd never do.

2024: 47 years on the Net.
Do the Xsyon community a favour, do us all a favour - cut your losses, even attempt a refund and kindly spout your tosh elsewhere.
Feel free to point out anything i have said that is false.
Figured you would have done that however, if any of it was false.
All i aim to do is make people aware of what they are getting into, when you order the game its easy to get the impression that this game is aobut to be launch ready, and complete.
Still support the game however, and if i were you, and if you actually cared about seeing this game make it to tribal wars, i would tone down the GTFO attitude that seems to be leaking from in game, on the xsyon forums, and now to this site. THis game needs all the subs it can get buddy...every single one.
