Population is rising (server reached High pop)

So, logged onto VG this morning and saw that Telon had "High" pop...at 10:37 PM, I made a note of that. Which is way better than how DC is currently doing. It was first time I've seen any server in VG, even after the merge, to reach high pop, last time I saw it was at release. It was only a brief few minutes though...but to me its a sign the population is rising. I went in game and saw quite a few people playing...even for a weekend, its a lot more busy than it used to be. I saw new people playing, and a lot of people that said they had come back to play VG, or see if its improved any.

Went back to check the server pop to take a screenshot, sadly it was only high pop for a few minutes, so by the time my new character was made and I looked around in game, it had gone back to medium. I should have taken a screenshot when I had the chance, as I know some people here will go "lol, vg is dying, you have no proof"...I'll keep an eye on it though and if I see it reach high again, I'll definitely take a screenshot again. I'm not going to be staring at the servers 24/7 to see though, thats boring and a waste of my time. I'll look before I login to a game or log out after done playing.

Still, if sever hit high...that shows there is quite a few people coming back. How long will this boost of population last? I don't know, but game is really busy, a lot more busy than it has been previous weekends. Heck, weekdays are quite busy too a lot of the time, not nearly as busy as weekends, but still...every day I see a few people that are new, and some people coming back to VG. Maybe this boost of people will only last a month, or two or three...but its a good sign for VG that people are still interested in it.

Unfortunately, due to the shortsightedness of  SOE, it will be fleeting.

When the new arrivals realise that this game is completely unsupported they will leave almost as quickly as they arrived.

I don't care what anyone says, it's pretty clear that SOE bought this game to take it out of the running as competition for EQ2. If there was no population and the game was genuinely dead, I might believe that they bought a lemon and gave up on it, but there are a lot of people in Telon and the most SOE can manage is a double XP weekend.

I'm going to agree with many of the others here (much as it pains me to do so). VG is on life support and is only still around because it makes Station access a more attractive proposition.

VG is one of the deepest MMOs ever made and despite it's awful launch, it's a fantastic game. It would have been nice if someone other than 'The enemy of gaming' (SOE) had acquired it.

Please understand that low, medium, and high is a threshold controlled on the server side.  We don't know what "high" is, is that 500 players?  400?  600?   Either way, it'll be hard to sell to people that population is rising, especiall now that the game has not received an update in over a year.  Also if you read the VG official forum, sure looks like more and more vets are leaving, those are the die hards that have stuck out.

I know we see these population is rising claims every few months before, and it was almost believable before.  But I can't believe there's one now, given the life support state of the game, with zero developers working on the game.

Indeed, most of the official forums average less than 1 post a week with the few devs that are supposed to be working on VG off working on EQ2.

It may survive as part of the station pass but that's all it will do.

They are not even devs, they are just forum community reps, people with jobs that simply post on the forums and create news & events.  The actual devs have moved on to other games.

Silius is on the EQ2 team now.

Jansan is on EQ1 team now.

actually, that could have been the reason of the spike. More people getting station pass from DC Universe, trying out VG. Not sure how many people get station pass that got DC...but I assume there would be some that did.

Yes, I was referring to Silius as he made promises that were never kept.

@ Explorium: The spike may well have something to do with DC, I hadn't thought of that :)

Just post a link to the latest game update if you want to quiet people about the game being dead.

I've been a huge VG fan over the past few years.  I've played off and on since just after launch.  VG is one of my three favorite mmo's of all time...that said...I updated the driver on my 4890 to 11.1 the other day.  All games play great with the exception of VG.  I had been using drivers that were dated as it was just to play VG and Darkfall.  I checked it out on VG's tech support website.  I was told that the recommended drivers for my video card and for other HD series drivers is a nearly two year old driver, 9.7 I believe it was.  How disapointing is it that SOE expects me to use a driver from two years ago to play their unsupported, albeit wonderful game?  The question then remains...how much of a difference will the outdated driver make if I roll back to it?

My point is, as much as I enjoy VG, SOE has left the game to sit...collect a little bit of cash and then dump it.

    ....

I am guessing on this one, but it almost seems as if VG was somehow "forced upon" SOE ...no pun intended this time... I mean they barely act as if they own it at all. To that is as low as it gets.

Aside from that huge negative, VG got one more playing customer... Me. I am paying for a station pass so I can play VG (which I tried years ago) and EQ (never did more than a trial acct). Getting used to VG now by trying out a few characters and will be doing same with EQ starting next week.

I am so far very impressed with conversations in Chat, the helpfulness of the Players, and how VG does seem to be waking up as compared to my experience with VG a couple of years ago.

I am the Player that wonders... "What the %#*& just happened?!"

As much as I hate to admit it, since I love VG, but this guy is right on the money.
