I'm just going to take a wild stab and say that the people who have the insane skills (and thus opposed to caps) equals a decent chunk of their subs.

Never. They ditched the idea back in Beta, and making such drastic change would likely kill what's left of their playerbase.

Right now it looks like that they are going to implement it under another name and mechanics. You will still be able to train everthing to max level, BUT your choice of armour is going to restrict what kind of skills you are going to be able to use.

Unfortionately this is only one of things that keeps me from re-subbing to DFO. The game has a serious lack of content currently....I needed more opitions then grinding skills on mobs, running around an empty world looking for players to kill, or grinding crafting skills. Theres no incentive to do anything other then these three things currently, which is the huge problem with the game right now.

Currently DFO is a decent game but no one can deny that the sandbox just isnt there. I mean funhulks!? Come on lol. I canceled about a month ago and decided to stay away from DFO for at least a good year until AV does more with their game. Currently its a grind to max every single skill and stat out or you simply can't compete with the vets in pvp. The gap is horrid....and once you do get to end-game theres nothing to do other then running around an empty world looking for players to fight. I lost count the amount of empty player cities we used to go to looking for a fight.

This next patch should make DFO "look" alot better but I don't see much content planning to be added to the world. What is with AV continuing to make their game "look" better and never adding anything to the game to keep players busy? Its an assbackward method of running an MMO lol

What other options should be there ? There are monster to fight , other players to kill, items to craft, a world to explore. Those are activities you mentioned but i might add, conquere (or buy)  and posseses holdings, to the list.  Thats a solid list  if you consider some of the things on the list can't be found on many MMORPG's (world to explore, items to craft), so please be more specific what content you missing.

Don'tthink you have much problem with the content, from what i get you think the population is low for you taste  and the "grind" too much.

So what you expect ? questlines ?

Explore the world? Half of it is empty areas without even a mob spawn..on top of that the lack of players makes exploration feel even more lonely. I can already guess your not going to see my issues with the game because you claim that DFO presently has plenty of content....rofl. Open your eyes me thinks...

The lack of reason to explore is the main issue I canceled. Choas chests drop crap loot, the rewards for taking villages is a joke, random things such as broken chests/fruit trees/lobster cages drop horrible loot, the quests gives almost laughable rewards...want me to go on?  lol

Hell ya the population is too low bud, and theres a good reason for it. And no the "grind" wasnt too much me. I played for about 13 months and enjoyed the game up until I came to my senses and realized DFO in its current state isnt worth the $15 monthly subscription. I'll likely return down the road to see what else AV can do with the game though.

IMO the lack of depth of this game is whats going to kill it. AV needs to add more content to keep the players with both low-end and high-end characters happy. We can only take mindlessly killing mobs or macroing in "safe" areas for so long before getting bored of it. I lasted about 13 months but in fact probly should have packed it in much sooner then that.

Theres a reason the population is so low but keep defending your "baby" anyway. Dont claim is a niche game and FFA loot drives players off...EVE has 40k - 50k active players each night dude. O.o

     couldnt disagree more.

you played DFO for 13 months and then left for what game? I am just curious I promise I will be nice.

I should mention I ran out of intresting content in fallen earth in about 2 months, about 2 months for EQ as well. What is ironic about that is that they both have a ton of content, but its very much the same. Hard to explain how Darkfall actually has a little less content then those games yet its more intresting.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Yea and Eve is a much different game than DFO.  You just park your ship in the port and you're fine.  Can't do that in DFO.

Really though this is like beating a dead horse.  Eve came out in 2003 and Darkfall came out in 2009.  I guarantee you when Darkfall is 8 years old it will have 40-50k players each night...

I Agree on that there should be more sand in the box. But its still a sandbox game and one of the best imo. Im in a big active clan atm which have more holdings. We get raided daily by others looking for pvp, and sometimes we go looking for pvp. And i really can´t remember a single evening without any pvp at all. Finding pvp isn´t hard.

This game has some of the best player created events aswell, pvp tournaments, battle royale, etc. But again its up to the players to create such events. Good clans create plenty of events for their members.

I personally am never bored in DF...

Games Played: Anarchy Online,Star Wars Galaxies,WOW,Eve,Darkfall,Vanguard, Fallen Earth,SWTOR,GW2,Tera,ESO,Wildstar, Black Desert, Archeage & Albion Online
Now playing: Conan Exiles & Rocket League
Games looking forward to: Diablo 4! & Star Citizen?

I kind of agree with what you say, but it really isn't the lack of content, but that the current content was implemented poorly.   The game still needs a skill cap even with armor restrictions.   However, it doesn't really have to come in the form as an actual hard cap, but could simply be something in the form of a 10 skill bind limit in the GUI.

Agreed for the most part but AV can do whatever they want, it still doesnt fix the fact that the content ingame is poorly implemented and that theres a lack of it.

On the other hand AV is a pretty small company so its expected that it will take them awhile to add more things to do. I can accept this, which is way I decided to take a leave of absence and return once AV adds another 2-3 expansions (1-3 years down the road maybe? lol)..hopefully at that point DFO will be a true sandbox with more things to do ingame.  Currently after a year ingame the game gets very boring. I can only handle roaming an empty map looking for pvp and grinding skills on mobs for so long :-/

What sort of things do you want AV to add? I'm sure there's a lot more to do but the game has quiet a bit of content.

Try joining a very small but active guild or one of the larger clans, I know my clan does 3-4 events a week. Also only roam the correct places for pvp, you won't pvp at kobalds or goblins :s

Just out curiosity. Do these events include roaming the coutryside looking for pvp or hitting mobs? My point exactly :-)

I want AV to add more depth. I want to login having to pick between different activities to do on each given night...the way a sandbox should be. If AV did something more to promote exploration I think would add a ton to the game but currently it almost seems like AV is afraid to hand out loot...If I find a chest in a remote area I want it to drop something worthwhile, not 3 fockn fish or a few pieces of wood ffs.

The potential of DFO amazes me but the company behind it is failsauce currently. Which is why less then 5k players play it...

Some events are PvP nights, others are dungeon runs or epic mobs, others are organised tournyes, DF 'hide n seek' there's plenty of room for innovation and creativity.

I'm sure everyone wants more depth in their game, more content but again.. what would you like to see?

What about exploring Cairn because it has some very loot rich mobs? Or Yssam for the sights? I agree they could do more to promote exploration but the random chests are very nice, on rare occasion give you rare items too.

If Darkfall isn't quiet right for you that's ok but until you can figure out exactly what type of things you'd like to see, what are the odds of seeing them anytime soon?

OP forget a thing you are not a customer the other ppl that like the current system are customers so dont expect AV to make a 180º turn the "fix" for this problem will take years

see you guys talking about exploration...which is another thing i hate...I hate DF's lame ass low field of vision, it would be amazing if i could see a far away island or something, but nooooo what do i see....depending on how close to the island i am...i see nothing. destroying my exploration. i honestly get more exploration thrills from playing battlefield bad company 2, argh, just another huge break for me.

edit: its funny that these two things are what keeps me from darkfall but mortal online got these two things down packed....well...mortal online made me sad, so dont think i am a MO fanboy or something

  • MiguelAngeloMiguelAngelo Member Posts: 28

I tried and tried and tried to give this game a chance and than i tried again.

Darkfall has alot going for itself but sadly what it does well is outweight by what things are bad in the game. When you first start playing it, the interface is clunky as heck and the graphics sorda slap you with uglyness and your turned off. I kept playing though and quickly taught myself how to use the interface, ok i need to hit a button to do everything in the game, itsa the way it was made so you know a button for sitting, walking, resting, mounting, demount, weapon, rock, papers, scissors.  the graphics grow on ya, the world the mood it fits you say to yourself, its aaah rough world ya know even around the edges, so its ok. So your lvl 2 now and finally see a new player running around, and your happy, and you stop to admire their cool armor and mount, and their getting closer, and you say to yourself gosh im new and i mus look like a mess so this player is coming to give me some tips and maybe gimme some armor hes not using.

So now im back at bindstone brushing off the one fart asswhooping i jus got, did his horse breath on me and i jus died? gosh i couldnt tell it was over faster than i could even process. So i run back to my corpse and the guy took everything i had, what in the world could a high lvl want with my stuff i say to myselff. NYa i brush it off and i go to kill some more, and by more i means goblins, and than kill goblins, and far off in the horizon...... goblins. its ok i say to myself, its a goblin takeover , itsa hostile world, im reallly trying get myself into the game lore. Now im lvl 4 ish, no levels in game but i figure im round here in mmorpg leveling wise, i did my homework loot and back often, so i put away my few peces of silver maybe 2 gold in the bank. Lvl 5 keep killing gobs, some skeletons i find across the bridge cool to see must kill. Ohh lotsa shiny rocks maybe ill start mining? some crafting so i can stop and pickup stuff whilst im "exploring" this world. Shit bad idea, if anyone sees ya as much as looking at a shiny rock they will roflastomp yo ass thinking you got ores of all sorts. Still lvl 5 run back across bridge to kill skeles, i want me some variation on what things to kill now.

around lvl 6 ish  now, running farther away from starting town am really enjoying exploring the world, its you know "rough" but some things are well done it fits the lore (so i say to myself) jus fine, wars were maybe fought here once its empty, gosh theres that lag blip again i wonder if??

So now im at bind stone again, by now ive figured out that you can see who ganked yo ass by checking the who ganked yo ass list. Yeh sure nuff i wasnt killed by some rare spawn leet monster that musta poped at that empty castle looking thing i was admiring. So now im starting to get scared to go to far outside of my town, maybe i should stay near my town since im new and gosh im so naive i mean it is a pvp mmorpg, wtf am i thinking yeah so ima stick near town only, kill some gobs, lvl up and go elsewhere. So i go to bank re armor up lost my wep, dont wanna run all the way back to where i got killed, maybe ill get killed again and the run is too far off, ima go buy new wep, need gold, few pieces i have i take outta bank, off i go to merchant.

Back at bindstone, broke ass no armor, dang eh rough world? sok though ima go farm and mine some stuff i can sell get back on the horse. Back at bindstone. Shit motherfucker!!! maybe i otta start communicating with those that have ganked me and say hi. Hi ;) you jus ganked me lol'z , fun eh, can i have my goblin bow back atleast? i have shit.      Lvl something im really high lvl now , or so i like to trick myself into thinking, have figured out whens the best time to mine for stuff, usually really late at night or early mornings when not many people online, i have gotten killed round these times but not as much as peak times. I see some people that started out round my time, they are much more powerful than i am, dang dude your strong whats going on, well im macroing, wtf is that?? well its aaah you leave your char swimming running shitting pissing all night long to raise your strnght, dexterity, kidney, sphyncter abilities. Huh isnt that some sort of short cutting the game? well im never gonna do that it kills the lore of the game, itsa cheap way to leveling, ill keep on grinding it.

Back at bindstone again, this shit is getting tiresome, maybe if i join a guild this wont happen as much. Welcome to your new guild champ!! you want me to do what?? run all the way to there to join guild? thats aaah shit thats far away i dont have a mount or anything man, once i get there ill get a mount? cool i get a free mount from guild, nice guys, ill lvl up some and run there maybe i wont die. Im feeling strong, i think ima run it man ima run it, prefontaine this shit!!!

Back at bindstone, dang i really need to lvl up, maybe im doing something wrong. By now im what we can say lvl 40 ish weapon wise and about the same in magic. But see its all a facade because your still not strong enough to defend yourself against anyone. Back in town at vault trying see what i can sell mmm cause i need gold to lvl up some magic skills mmm maybe ill sell this andd....

Back at bindstone and im wondering wtf jus happened, oh someone declared war on guilld, i can be killed anywhere anytime anything. Damn this game is harsh i cant wait til i get back at these mofos. Run back to vault. Back at bindstone, i new that was gonna happen thank god i didnt take anything out of vault cause i knew it was gonna happen hah!! Run back to vault, make like im taking something out, wait 5-10 minutes, they still there... na ill log off wont risk it.

Back next day ready to start fresh, gonna go kill gobs. Back at bindstone, maybe i should takeup crafting, cause im dying alot , not leveling much, and keep loosing armor faster than i can buy it, and this low lvl gob armor i think is not protecting me much against these people. Off ona 1 month crafting binge!!

Chang chang mofossss, master miner, crafter, bling bling!!! Back at bindstone, armor helped a little i died in 4 shots now, thatll teach em!!

Lvl 60 archery, lvl 80 weapon lvl 60 greater magic some spellcrafting, lvl 100 Carpal tunnel. Have traveled sine cities, have parked myself in this city i call haven, alot of people like myself running away from obvious cities where gankers hang and the people here are nice, down below there is an underwater cave where they swim all night and all day long, they dont bother no one its nice!!

Back at bindstone, back and bindstone back at bindstone.. shit maybe they figured this place out. Back at bindsonte. Fack ima run to guild city, ill risk it, what the hey. Run to guild city , back at bind stone, fack!!! back at bindstone!! leave log on another day, back at bindstone.

This game was a nightmare,  i had fun the little time i was allowed to play, as a noob i was ganked so many times not mentioned here, and it never stopped, i tried so many things to enjoy the game as much as i could, grouping, making friends, who later also never saw cause they got tired of being ganked. I grouped with guild and we would get whooped by 1 guy who would jump and run and cast like the best of em, maybe i joined a shitty guild? na they were really nice people that tried to help as much as they could. These were people that had some skills at 100 and were playing for months yet they all sometimes would get whooped by 1 or 2 guys. Something really wrong there. The game itself would sometimes be broken as i would try to go places where few people would hang, now i know why few people hung out there, the mobs would break for weeks on time, never spawn! that would halt my quest and lvl time, i jus had time to craft and nothing else. Everyone would say its best to macro, macro macro, no no no!! ty ty ty!! if thats what it takes to become good at a game, no TY!!

You need to move away or be more careful if you're constantly being ganked.

You need to join a decent clan.

As for the ganking it will be gone in a couple of weeks when we get the new alignment system, the current one doesn't really punish the gankers enough.

Obviously i also meant MMORPG's without crafting like D&D or  WWII online, GW or DCU.

Bottom line it stands in Darkfall you can explore a big world, you can craft, you can engage against over 100 of different  mobs  on the surface or in dungeons and you can PvP for control over holdings or you can PvP for you personal reasons you can also do this with shipwarfare.

Thats a lot of things it gives me to do  IMO.  It covers all the classic  areas of activities in an MMO that is explore, fight Monster, build items, fight other players and even socialize with others to a degree ;)

    ROTFLMFAO.

    OMG.

I laughed so hard at reading this, it brought tears man!

Not laughing at you, but prolly 'cuz I know how you feel. And your sarcasm is hilarious.

Rewards don't mean much if they are just given to you on a silver platter (ie WoW, etc). High risk means great rewards, and feelings of accomplishment when you do finally start succeeding in the game. THIS is why Darkfall is easily one of the best full loot PvP mmos on the market currently. IMO.

    Hang in there pal, take a break if you need to. You'll be back, I know you miss that bindstone {winks}
