Kind of like what they are doing with the new servers coming online an hour before launch - in a sense, as long as they let those that did not pre-order start an hour before their announced launch time.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
There are a bunch of shiny new servers coming up at 9 AM PST just for the official launch. The headstart servers won't come up until 10 AM PST.
While many people are already complaining about this, I actually think it's a rather clever move on Trion's side. The headstart servers are pretty much all full now, so opening the new servers first encourages the launch players to roll on these, rather than on the already congested head start servers.
Me, I was planning on playing this morning, but I guess I'll go make myself a nice fancy breakfast instead, and take my time

This is a smart idea. THen the older servers won't get more overpopulated than they already are. THe poeple who got the game for today will be excited to play asap, log on, join one of the new servers. While people who joined for the ER will be able to sit back and wait for their servers to come up and hopefully won't become overpopulated... much...

Only if those that did not pre-order can actually play at 9 AM. i.e. - that the launch is at 9 AM instead of 10 AM. If only the head start people can get in there at 9 AM, they will literally end up grabbing the "good" names before returning to their old servers. In which case this would be a bad thing.
Also, it will give the illusion that the servers when the launch actually starts are not as crowded as they are. Definitely a tricky situation to handle, since the "crowdedness" does not really take place until the shared primetimes take place (keep in mind just because it is primetime 8-11PM ET, that is 7-10PM CT, 6-9PM MT, and 5-8PM PT - different folks have different primetimes).

You know the game has an official forum right? Where they provide all sorts of information about the game.

I can't help but wonder how overwhelmed the servers really are going to be what with this a weekday and all. Should be interesting to see how smoothly the launch is.

Given how rough it got over the weekend, definitely a good thing it is a weekday launch and a Tuesday at that.

The servers will be down until 9am PST. At that time the new servers only will come online.
At 10am pst the existing servers will come online.
Rift has been gearing up for launch day and that is why the servers are down.
You can check the server status by going to the gamesite.
Hope this helps
Yep, it is "Launch Day" . . . but the "Launch" is not until 10 AM PST.
