The game is not going to LAUNCH any time soon, but a closed beta is probably not too far off.
Population woes... omg it got really bad lately, looks like people gave up waiting on PS:N and canceling their subs. Finding fights has gotten harder again and one faction has 50% or more most of the time, I'm probably going to cancel too since I can barely last longer than 10 minutes in these horribly one-sided fights.
Don't expect this game until early next year, or early 2013. The layoffs and "restructuring" have pushed back PS:Next for an entire year. Same with EQ:Next, sad days indeed.
On the flip side, they should hurry up & shut down SWG:NGE. Put that poor horse out of its coma.

We can only go by what they tell us really until we hear otherwise. The thing is with the cancelling of a large project like The Agency they is bound to be massive layoffs of people involved in that project. On top of that if there was a big moeny sink it may be possible they woudl have to trim a little off the sidesof their other studios which may effect the time tables here. Besides, most of the information regarding when we hear about planetside has been whispers that it exists and little else. The words of the march accnouncement were less an announcement and felt more liked leaked information which could have easily turned out to be just wishful thinking on the devs side of things. Thing is SOE isn't going to be sitting around working on absolutely nothing and the other things we do know they have in developement are the never ending streams of EQ expansion and supossably... wait for it... Planetside. To my knowledge thats about it and from the numbers being let go it isn't really all that unlikely that Planetside is still going, especially when they flat out tell you it is.
too bad that its being delay again due to the hack
Dear Valued Sony Online Entertainment Customer:
Our ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment systems has discovered that hackers may have obtained personal customer information from SOE systems. We are today advising you that the personal information you provided us in connection with your SOE account may have been stolen in a cyber-attack. Stolen information includes, to the extent you provided it to us, the following: name, address (city, state, zip, country), email address, gender, birthdate, phone number, login name and hashed password.
Customers outside the United States should be advised that we further discovered evidence that information from an outdated database from 2007 containing approximately 12,700 non-US customer credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes) and about 10,700 direct debit records listing bank account numbers of certain customers in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Spain may have also been obtained. We will be notifying each of those customers promptly.
There is no evidence that our main credit card database was compromised. It is in a completely separate and secured environment.
We had previously believed that SOE customer data had not been obtained in the cyber-attacks on the company, but on May 1st we concluded that SOE account information may have been stolen and we are notifying you as soon as possible.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the attack and as a result, we have:
1) Temporarily turned off all SOE game services;
2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When SOE's services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your Station or SOE game account name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information for those who wish to consider it:
U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.
We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S. credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus place a "fraud alert" on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however, that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you, it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report, please contact any one of the agencies listed below.
i wonder if soe players get one month free games online like the psn? they might aswell check every sony related stuff.
Planetside was extremely fun when it first came out, before everyone had orbital strikes and BFR's. I'll definately play Planetside:Next the first few months when it comes out, and maybe play longer if there are no orbital strikes and BFRS, or any other form of uber alpha class that tempts everyone to grind. In fact I would still be playing Planetside:Original right now if it weren't for orbital strikes and BFR's, I particularly hate the EMP orbital strike.
They are apparently renaming it from PlanetSide Next, to PlanetSide 2..
Apparently the name don't suit it anymore..
maybe it the fact, players refered to it as PS (PlanetSide - The correct way to type it)
and PlanetSide Next would be... PSN, and we all know how that turned out >.<
But hopefully, it will get released, I've been waiting for another true MMOFPS for a long time, there's only 2 MMOFPS's in the world apparently, PlanetSide & Entropia (Formerly Project Entropia)

Ahh yeah, well I didn't play this, hell it's not one I've even seen, I just watched the trailer for it, I see why I didn't bother, the gfx are crap, but yes I do see it's a real mmo
So I stand corrected, there are only 3 true mmofps games in the world, however, I was trying to point out to the poster above my original reply, PlanetSide is NOT an MMORPG.. I was mearly trying to do it sublety..

Smedley said the layoffs haven't affected PS:Next in any negative way.

Isn't the Denver HQ mostly for SWG's Trading Card Game and microtransation stuff in other SOE games?

With the shitstorm that's occurring, don't be surprised if it gets completely canceled like the Agency did, or SOE may even reach chapter 11.

I'm an early-Planetside fan, and a Pre-CU SWG fan, so...

So lets hope for some good news on July 7th (which happens to be my birthday.... an unexpected present from SOE would not go astray).
