Thief looks like a good class.

with both shadow step and stealth it gets 2 really strong and tematic abillities. Stealing looks like a fun twist. And finally the initiative bar to use skills with no cooldown.

As a former warhammer stealth class player , i say that shadowstep together with stealth is important to make this kind of mellee glass canon work.

The 'stealing an enemy's weapons' is sort of borderline for me, but it beats simply stealing coin from them in the middle of a fight. I liked the feathers adaptation when she was fighting the moa.

Still, all in all, inspiring and impressive. Well done.

Heh, it seems people are split in respect to what the Thief should steal. Some think it should be coin and some think it's cool that they steal object that aid them in battle.

    This is not a game.

I'm pretty sure once you shadow step, you remove stealth but it still adds to the surprise part of the profession I guessa. It is going to be fun being stupid and firing my guns off at enemies repeatedly for no apparent reason and screaming "AAARGHH!!" as I charge across the map.

Can't disagree with you about that. But what i am talking about is that lacking mobility tricks makes a mellee glasscanon pretty boring. If stealth is a one trick pony, it is either underpowered or overpowered! And it is really hard to balance.

(And playing stealth in warhammer beta was hell. 1vs1 stealth was ekstreame powerfull, in a PvP zerg it was useless. And the uselessness of mellee DPS in RvR was sush a big design flaw that somebody in mythic should have been punished for it, if not for all the other thing they also messed up. )

With tools like shadowstep there is more to do as close range dps character.

GW2 videos just keeps amazing me...crazy level of attention to detail, art...

    Thief <3

    thanks of the videos.

but... stealth, shadow step? next is too add 346632 unstoppable stuns. ANET, im dissapoint. I do hate rogues, and their FACEROLL gameplay, was expecting something more "skill needed", while the stealing weapons skill was indeed interesting, the rest was "meh... stealth, teleport back, stun, combo points, run, repeat" ¬¬

too soon to conclude based in just 2 videos, ofc, hope Anet bring more cards to the table.

And finally we have 6/8 professions and the way the class system will work together is feeling a lot more present.  I liked the videos for both classes but I feel I need to add that the thief looks extremely fun especially considering a few simple things.

    1. the initiative mechanic: It looks a lot like the energy mechanics of rogues in other games but in this case, because they still have energy, it is more dynamic.

    2. no recharges...definetly gives thiefs a different feel to the other classes.  no global cooldowns either :-).

    3. stealth AND shadow steps:  you have got to love that, and we KNOW that it won't be broken like in some other games.  also, it looks like assassins are going to have to be played properly to be any good at all considering how fast they seem to die.  thank you Anet.  Bye bye Xl Naruto Xl or some other random assassin name.

    4. so...whats the DPS count on the pistol unload ability?

yeah I am excited.  oh...and rift's rogues are bad.  (random bit of hate to go along with the random bit of OMG that is this reveal)

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

You clearly didn't notice then how the person playing the Thief was getting owned. The class looks very much like one that would require a lot of skill to play correctly. What we saw in that video however was someone very clearly not very skilled with the profession she was trying to demo and getting punished for it.

Also there weren't any combo points. I assume here you have misunderstood how the pips work with regards to using skills. They are needed to use all weapon skills and recharge automatically over time. So on the one hand you have the choice of using them all in one massive combo but leave yourself vulnerable and unable to use any more for a time, or you use them in moderation but not do as much spike damage.

Seems that the vids have been taken down now anyway, so I guess we'll have to wait till Pax to see more.

Indeed you can see a very bad player in action there, but also the narrator said that was a "pretty high level event" wich may interfer a lot on her performance, plus being nervous in front of all those people and, people like me, who suck playing rogues.

But its a demo after all, a lot can change before launch day, still the "combo points" its a lot similar (more points more damage, less points less damage, cant use other skills) to other games(WoW is not the only one to have rogues).

I will inforce that i belive Anet will cleanse all my skeptism on this matter, they really seem to want to innovate, so there´s may be more to see as far the development goes.

ArenaNet, you did it again...you make it that I want to play ever class and I even want to mix up what race I pick as well.  This game is going to blow the socks off Guild Wars and bring something even more amazing into the MMO world.

As a WOW player and a person who has enjoyed dozens of MMO's, including Guild Wars, GW2 and Star Wars TOR are on my radar of placing my WOW game time on hold.

I can't wait for Closed Beta and Launch Release. =)

    Wildstar (2013) & Elder Scroll Online (2013)

    Playing: Diablo 3, WOW, Far Cry 3 & X-Com.

Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).

Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHqO7emmcnE - part III made it over on to YouTube, it's the only one I've found so far.

Also, during the high level event, I believe she, and the other players, were around level 27 or so...so the level 31 mobs would be considered high level, and also can account for how hard they were getting rocked.

She's not moving nearly enough in that video, especially because Thief's weapons skills consume Initiative so that intentionally leaves you with more energy to dodge with. She should be moving about more.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

Part IV, which has since been removed and (as of yet) not been reposted, had a glimpse every so often of a level indicator over another players head, if I recall correctly.

Have the videos been taken down? I can't get any of them to work, aside from the youtube video.

I've been drooling over what was posted on youtube, even though player wasn't exactly fluent in the language of thief.

And yes, ANet has made a game where I want to be every class and race.

Yes. The game footage and information wasn't supposed to be released yet. This was supposed to be the surprise at PAX East.

     1. It looks just like WoW rogue energy system except there is no cooldowns. This means balancing between weak but cheap or strong and expensive.

    2. Haven't seen much other classes. There wasn't global cooldown but there was bar what seems to be like channeling bar. I hope it is channeling rather than cast bar, I hate melee hits that use castbar.

    3. Stealth and shadow steps look very standard, they say there is timer for stealth which is good thing. It looks like Thief is support character or she was playing very lousy. More tanker characters seemed to solo stuff much easier. I guess with talent and lot of dodging you can kill bigger stuff, but definetly on last part she couldn't kill anything without tank or even survive. Worst that could happen is having WoW mage style solo boss crap that we seen.

There was lot of good things like Gears of War style reviving and graphics looked very good. Overall quality stuff, just wonder why release date is so late but that means just more content.

Fantastic news! I knew it was going to be a thief! The issue that I'm facing now is choosing between a necromancer and a thief. Both classes look absolutely badass.

One thing that really intrigued me (besides the dual flintlock pistols OMG!) is the thief's weapon stealing ability. It seems to be a class defining ability and I wonder just how varried it will be and whether or not ANet will make it less situational. This game is really shaping up to be something special and I can't wait for more news.

Sadly, I missed the gametrailer's videos and only saw the youtube one linked in a earlier post. Hopefully the rest of the videos will be back up soon.
