I agree wholeheartedly. Anything that will bring the world to life and have interaction from the players I am in favor of. I am sure this is what the developers have in mind with the Rifts. I don't think they should stop there though. Just get the players out of the cities. Too many ways for a player just to sit in a city and queue for a dungeon and/or battleground without ever having to leave. Horrible game design IMO.
A lot of us are pushing for invasions that go right into Meridian and Sanctum. There is pretty
big support for this across the board.
I can almost guarantee if Trion see this happening they are going to give incentive to move lol
There are the quest chains that take you through the zone. Then there are the story/saga guest chains that once u have them dont show up on your quest helper. So you gotta find the stuff on your own by reading the quest and figureing out stuff on your own. You could you a website but whats the fun in that. Gives really nice rewards usually ends up in dungeons. Some call for crafted items. Me and a friend are working on The Saga of the Endless: Implanting the Idea. they start around 15 i think. There are also Ancient Wardstone Quests that u can find. Some are KIll X amount of X. Some story driven. Like take these glasses and track down this killer. Use them and his tracks will show up. Then u find his camp then a bunch of other stuff until u finally locate and kill him. Rewards for those are planar.
That's the problem I have with MMOs these days as those are "social mechanics" at best. What I miss is the cantinas of SWG where you'd have entertainers there dancing and playing music and chatting and adventurers coming in for buffs or healing or just to hang out. Or stumbling across a Ranger camp in the middle of the wild with the same kind of thing happening. That's real social interaction, not like an auction house market interface which happens to have player sold goods.
There seems to be just no place for that kind of thing in today's MMOs anymore.
I do see your point but this is what most want, (based on how many people play WoW), I as do not think those days will ever return, sorry.
... the game is as linear as LOTRO or EQ2 or similarly played games questing. Less linear than WoW Cata though.
The game is a mffing nuisance ffs!
Yesterday my char kept twitching left, right, left, right ... where to go? What to do?
To many choices ... lets go questing ... oh noes a Rift pops .. lets go take down the Rift ... ah crap some invading pvpers ... lets shake em off first.
Done, now back to that Rift ... darnit ... invasion blocks my way ... take em down asap ...
Quests are only semi linear -- u can skip around quests and move on to the next quest hub or even the next zone (if your high enough level to live)- Quests hubs dont have to have all of their quests done to move to the next hub - once your high enough level you can pick and choose quests hubs you want to get quests from.
I did about 30% of the quests in one zone and moved to the next zone and started questing there, maybe a little to low level to quest efficently, but was still doable and reaped better rewards(exp and loot) since i was a little under level.
This game is one of the least linear games i have played in a while- if you make it that way-- there are so many different ways to progress (warfronts, invasions, rifts, quests). You can make it very linear or not very much at all.
Zones are level based sothat would probably be the most linear part of the game.
Linear? I havent even starting to lvl up by questing yet, im now lvl26 and all done by PvP. Love to ride across the country and looking for artifacts, i see a mountain i climbe it, i see i lake i dive in to it. For once, i can play an mmo the way I want!

Just, right along in a nice line.
When talking about how linear Rift is, it's simple to explain, it's a mix of Warhammer and WoW.
Very linear questing, but plenty to explore on your own if your of a mind to do so.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
If you ignore the rifts ...
If you ignore the invasions ...
If you ignore the world pvp ...
If you ignore the warfronts ...
If you ignore the dungeon runs ...
