    1. It was Epic's fault.

    2. It was due to {insert latest natural disaster} .

    3. It was WoW's fault!

The WoW one would work hte best. . but I do remember the great posts when the volcanic ash was to blame for delaying the devs. . that he said had left the week before or something like that. .then he had to explain why they hadn't left when he said they had. . etc. etc. . something like that.  I felt bad for him.  It likely was the volcanic ash. . but seriously. . it sounds so bad :)

Yeah the funny thing about the volcano was that about 2 or 3 weeks prior Henrik had said they had sent some devs to Epic in the US. Then when the volcano happened he said that it delayed their trip to the US.

Actually, what they said was that they were sending someone to the US to talk directly to Epic.  Many people, especially the sharpshooters who incessantly dig for anything negative to say, mistakenly assumed that the SV rep was typing that message from the airport while waiting for a flight to the US.

Obviously, he wasn't.  It was a planned trip, not one starting minutes from the time the information was given.

But, the "critics" short-stroked it that way - "Look, see, they lied to us!!!!"  Insert idiotic dancing banana here.

Did that volcano erupt, impacting flights throughout Europe?  Yep.

Did SV send someone to Epic in the US?  Yes, they did that too.  It just wasn't in the timeframe that people assumed, or that people foolishly kneejerked exaggerated reactions to.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

I hate to belabor the point, but Henrick made the announcement on March 29th that "We will also fly some of our programmers to the US". http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/39574-release-update-mortal-online.html#post811235 That is consistent with making travel plans for April 14th-25th (the period disrupted by Eyjafjallajökull)

For those interested in the dynamic mount system, and an idea of what it means to the larger breeding system, this is an excerpt from the last House of Commons chat that gives some clues:

"<@Maerlyn>; What is dynamic mount system? Could you give us some clue of it?

<@HenrikNystrom>; the under dev note is the next content patch we will deploy

<@HenrikNystrom>; the dynamic mount system is a very cool system that will totaly replace the mounts we have today to something much better, With Anthony on the team he brought us what we needed to make this happen, and its a great feature that gives other areas value

<@HenrikNystrom>; so the mounts will look a bit better than they do today mesh wise, each mount in the world will more or less be unique visually

<@HenrikNystrom>; for instance, different patterns colors, different muscles that you can see, so you know that horse is trained for sure

<@HenrikNystrom>; we are using a similar animation tree that shadows of the collosus used, that game have one amazing horse system

<@HenrikNystrom>; so just riding on a mount will be enjoyable

<@HenrikNystrom>; much more fun and a great feeling

<@HenrikNystrom>; you will notice the horse is a live and its an individual with their own reaction to the game world

<@HenrikNystrom>; for instance it aint to easy to ride straight into a wall, the horse will try to avoid damage

<@HenrikNystrom>; the next step to this, allow us to add breeding

<@HenrikNystrom>; do create diff type of mounts with unique stats and unique visuals,

<@HenrikNystrom>; there will be age on animals, so you do want to find a breeder/tamer that got some adult mounts, you dont want to ride a phony

<@HenrikNystrom>; so care mounts will be more important for those interested, sure you can still just buy them right from a tamer and go on from there

<@HenrikNystrom>; but there will be a lot more to it than we do have to day

<@HenrikNystrom>; please note that breeding is not coming in this patch, but this patch opens up for us to actually add that as well the way we want it"

With regard to breeding as it relates to the dynamic mount system, Mats Persson added some information about animal stats and the age of animals:

"Yes, but not exactly like that. When the new animal stats are introduced, each race and species will have a difficulty according to age. This means that in general the younger a creature is, the more easy it will be to tame. This also allows for some creatures to not be possible to tame at all after a certain age, like you say. The age of the animal being tamed will probably also affect its max "loyalty" (the less time it has had in the wild, the more domesticated it can be.)

I say "loyalty" because the current Loyalty-stat will also be rewritten; right now Loyalty is both a "trust-indicator" and an attribute that defines how well your creature will accept orders ("intelligence/obedience"). In reality, you can have a creature that is really really stupid, but who would never stray from your side. And vice versa, a creature that does exactly what it is ordered to do, but perhaps also a bit too intelligent and egoistic to be loyal to the death."

The dynamic mount system is scheduled to be in the next content patch, which has no specific release date, but is thought to be nearing completion (my guess, within the next month or so).

Umm yeah, why don't you reread the thread because it is exactly my point.

The release date at that time was scheduled for April. They had said that they were in the process of "migrating their network solution" which is the entire reason they went to the U.S, implying that they had been there or were there. Suddenly when the volcano happened they couldn't go.

Jeez, how easy it is for people to forget history...

I am not quite sure if that is enough to "completely revolutionize mount system in mmos". Sounds like they are just making it more complex, and while I will leave the discussion about if it is needed at all to begin with, I think just making a system more complex won't make it revolutionary.

Let's see it actually implemented.  I mean.. so far none of the previously announced systems have been more than partially implemented.  If SV has proven one thing, it is that a good powerpoint does NOT equal a good game.

Being able to breed horses for specific traits sounds great.  It's just the whole implementation part that I have serious (and justified) doubts about as there is NOTHING in the history of this company that leads me to believe they will be able to implement this as described without making the game go FUBAR.

One thing to notice about that whole IRC log, is that pretty much everything besides Religion is "coming soon", or its "we need to make just another stepping stone before we add in this", "we're working very hard on this".

Now that's all fine and good, if that wasn't the case for EVERYTHING ever mentioned in a question since they started doing that. Some of those things mentioned were "just around the corner" for the last 6 months.

Honestly it seems to me that the upcoming mount system is a minor addition to keep the promises of everything else they have alive. Thus far they haven't delivered on a lot of content they promised, so it's no surprise that it may continue to be the case. I suppose we'll see.

Here's the last line from the post announcing the flight to Epic games "We will announce a final release date at a later time." (i.e. previously announced release dates no longer apply)

On the topic of the mounts, I don't think that the new system would add enough data to really bog down the system. 1 or 2 numbers for texture maps will get all the variation in coloring, a couple numbers for physical stats, stat like loyalty, hunger etc could be set at a low prioirity since they are only important ti the tamer. Every weapon and piece of armor) in the game has almost the same number of data points.
