I felt like I was in the twilight zone playing this game.
Holy hell, everything from the UI to the abilities are ripped from WoW. Quests are the same exact quests as in WoW vanilla, the same "collect 10" with the same story of some lonely NPC with the same green arrow over his head asking for help. The same type of abilities, even some names are just the exact same.
The graphics are mediocre at best, the gameplay is super linear and easy.
How come this game has so much hype?
Comments
Here is something else extremely confusing to me. I saw these post when the game was Beta
and free to any body who logged into it.
You went and bought the game off of just hype with no research? The Beta had 42 levels and
let you see practically everything. I think every single review of the game has said if you
choose to quest it is extremely linear.
The graphics arguement is confusing too because you do not say. Rift graphics are bad compared
to [insert game]
I can not counter your arguement if you give no examples.
Only reason: Its fairly polished. and relativly bug free for a just launched mmorpg. Its also the only new mmorpg on the block atm. other than these 2-3 things there is really nothing special about rift as a game itself at all. A good launch of a mmorpg can do a ton for it in the long run.
A bad launch will stick with it forever, people still avoid Anarchy Online 10+ years after its launch due to how bad the launch was. This is an extreme example of what a bad launch can cause, but its possible.
Graphically Rift is decent but nothing evolutionary. The character animations are fairly bad though, look far to robotic, seen a pvp vid with a char swinging a 2 handed sword, and I just thought to myself how horribly animated that was it just looked far to.. stiff I guess?. The world can use some more colour to brighten things up a tad.
Yeah Rift is a wow clone its fairly well known and its very noticable when you play Rift, but if you like that kinda gameplay I don't see the problem.
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

Rift: World of Warcraft clone #9321 Nothing special to see here move along.
Jesus Tits there is alot of hate in here!
The fact is that RIFT is similar to WoW. Well guess what, ALL FANTASY BASED MMO'S ARE ALL SIMILAR TO EACH OTHER! If you don't like it (RIFT) PLEASE stop making troll post about it!
And the same goes for the Fanbois too!
Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.
Because in it he mentions How RIFT is so much like WoW...which has been said time and time before about how there is a sticky up top that he can post in and mods have closed MANY threads with his exact same opinion. His opinion is fine cause it's his opinion. His pointlessness in opening another RIFT is WoW thread is what the problem is and is essentially reportable for trolling when he decided to make ANOTHER thread like this when one already exists where he can place his opinion.
I do not think WoW fans understand the harm they are doing by acknowledging Rift even exist.
Blizzard takes the silent treatment for a reason.
People spamming this all over the place and people who hate Blizzard are going, "hold on.
There is a game that is similar to the one I am hooked..great developement team and they
have content that is not broken..sign me up"
Like people have said before. Find the guy who came up with "We're not in Azeroth anymore"
and give him a major raise.
Yep that was a pretty gutsy move on Trion's part. I don't recal a MMO ever directly going after WoW like that befoe. So far I guess it's working.

Yes you are not in Azeroth you just got sucked up into a tornato and changed into one of RIFTs races.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
LMFAO that is hilarious +1
The following statement is false
The previous statement is true
I've played WoW for 6 years and those graphics are pure crap, so "mediocre" is a step up. AND it sounds as if I will be familiar with the questing!
Thanks for the advice, I'm buying my copy of Rift today!
The sad thing (for me anyway) is that I kinda liked WoW but I just could not get over the horrible graphics or the cartoonish way the world looked. I guess i'm a graphics whore!

I dont' know what you are talking about OP. I'm level 39 with maybe doing 10 quests. And the quests I did do was to kill zone rift bosses that we actually had to succeed at summoning by not letting any wardstones fall. It had to be a group effort with everyone in the zone. It was fun as hell.
Quest if you want to level fast. Play and enjoy the other aspects that also level you, just not as fast if find questing boring. Like I said. level 39 and I can count the quests I've done on 2 hands.
Another of the quests I'm doing is a hunting quest where I have to actually find rare monsters. Spamming for people to tell me locations if they find it etc.. I'm 3/5 right now.
Also bumping into hordes of Guardians (opposite faction from mine) and having to deal with them. And the world PVP right now is great. Having your rift group during a zone event bump into enemy rift group for some good ol world pvp. It's a lot of fun.
Rift was designed for all kinds of people. If you wanted to just do standard quests, it has that. If you want to level through pvp, it has that too. If you want to level with rifts, it has that as well.
I'm doing a combinatino of all 3 and nothing feels generic about it.
Well, being generic can be both good and bad, both Everquest and World of warcraft are pretty generic as well.
If you want a game that is similar to what you played before but new Rift is a good buy.
If you want to play something that feels like you never played it before you should wait for GW2 or WoDO.
We don't like exactly the same things and that is actually how it should be. Rifts have the basics rights (I think most haters even can agree with that), the game is well coded and bugs are few between. So it do the part everyone need fine.
But specific needs is a very different and personal thing. I thought it was pretty good but not enough for me to move there from GW which I play right now. But I might pick it up later, or not.
For you it sounds like you really should give it a go.
In an effort to reduce redundant threads, there is a stickied thread at the top of the forum for game comparisons between Rift and others. Please use it for further discussion of the topic if you'd like. Locking this.
