action games with progress?

So my question is are there any action games where you actually progress (ie either skills or just in ranking with more options at a higher rank, etc....or at least just money) (like infantry/ cosmic rift for example)?

I'm not talking about the typical mmorpg....or the typical fps. Oh ya and other than planetside and eve (which is iffy for this category) i played both of those for quite awhile but they're not really fun anymore. (neocron is not really an "action" game if you were going to suggest it). And you don't progress in subspace (continum).

so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

nono i made a new thread exclusively because the games suggested there were not what i was looking for

what i'm looking for is games that mimick or come close to the **action** aspect of infantry/cosmic rift--not the setting/scenery
