That's kind of weird because my guild was just saying tonight how they get way more if they heal or tank than if they dps.
Ask them what they're doing because myself and the people I am playing with are getting nothing!
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
I have heard they are looking into it, right now contribution for Rifts is decided entirely by number of abilities used, so if you were to say spam an aoe buff on your healer you would get more contribution than healing. In fact until the patch today people would spam track ore/wood/plants etc. and get great contribution. So yeah it's borked and certainly needs to be fixed.
I didn't know they said what exactly contribution was based on. Where did Trion say this?
Playing a Cleric myself 'healing' is only a third of the class... heck you don't really have to heal AT ALL, anyone that thinks clerics are the 'healer' class really should look at the whole system and realise theres more Rouges and Mages 'healing', Warriors dpsing, heck Clerics and Rouges TANKING out there in the game to pigeonhole the whole 'Warrior = tank, Cleric = healer, Rouge = Melee, Mage = Rage' archtype system from other MMOs into Rift...
Bottom line is Rift has the most flexible and varitations for classes since DAoC, and irronically Rift is more a kin to DAoC and WAR then anything else out there.. If only one person is healing/buffbotting during a Rift fight then the raid really has to rethink their souls, it's not like theres only one spec you can be...
Yap. As a chloromancer it's tough being the first at a RIFT. Waiting around while killing a few easys. Seeing a few come and start healing while do some dmg. And RIFT seals they get phat lootz and I get 7-8 if I'm lucky plane shards. I guess being a healer that is just the way of things. But I would hope Trion would do a Damage+ Heals=reward. Only way to be fair about it. Still enjoy the game and such. But would be nice to get a little love tossed the healers way.
Jymm Byuu Playing : Blood Bowl. Waiting for 2. Holding breath for Archeage and EQN.
So I've been playing since getting through the queues on headstart launch day, and I rolled a Cleric which I've spec'ed fully for healing.
After making a couple of alts (both Tanky and DPSy builds), something has come to my attention.
HEALERS ARE GETTING BONED IN THE RIFTS.
Seriously, the amount of Rift points and planar that healers are getting out of keeping their raid groups on their feet is virtually non-existant comapred to others. I wasn't really paying attention to this until my guildies were all up in arms over no clerics healing in rift groups. So I thought, "Why?"
After paying attention and doing some rifts with my characters, it is clear that healers are getting virtually no reward for healing, other than not getting bitched at for walking in with a DPS spec.
I would like to see something done about this. I understand if DPSers get MORE, but I cannot agree with how screwed over the healers are right now. My level 10 rouge has almost DOUBLE the rift rewards than my 30 healing cleric, and I certainly didn't do more rifts with it.
Can you give me some numbers so I can check it against what I'm currently getting from doing rifts.
I'm fully spec'd as a healer, only lvl 16 atm but on average I get about 30 planarites per rift, I get about 1 blue every other rift and I've only been involved with high end bosses a few times so getting the purples has been low, only 5 so far.
I also play a Rogue and tbh with you I have gotten only a fraction of what I've earned with my cleric, my rogue is also lvl 16.
I'm curious here on one thing. I only play a cleric so I dont know if thats the issue. Are the ones who play cleric healers getting ok reward and the ones doing mage healer not? Is that where the issue is? If so I'd say that needs to be reported and fixed. This may not be just a matter of opinions here, it could very well be the type of heal being used thats causing it. Aren't a majority of chloro heals reactive off the mob with the occasional direct single target? Do bards have the same issue? Are the direct and AoE Direct heals working fine but the other types not?
Bottom line is I think we need some specifics here on which calling/soul/ability people are using that are getting the low rewards to see if thats the issue or not. I knwo if I go healer using only single target direct heals and HoTs on my purifier and warden trees I see a rather good return on my time, sometimes more than when I DPS actually. I dont have AoE heals at all so I can't speak for those. Anyone?
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
Not sure what all is included in calculating contribution, but there are a few things I do know.
1. AOE. Heals or DPS. Aoe makes a big difference. (If you're a healer, make sure you're in as big a raid as possible. The more players your aoe heals hit, the more credit you get. Same applies for other casted buffs.)
2. Overhealing counts. It's really easy to get a good contribution with a Bard, if you're in a full raid. I have gotten upwards of 150 planarites on a single major rift or invasion boss on my bard before, and that was even before level 25.
3. Number of abilities used also makes a difference. If you don't have aoe, spam your instant cast as much as possible.
Considering most Rifts don't really require much heals (except for major rifts with ?? boss) i don't think a dedicated healer would be able to contribute much, in rifts IMO you have to be able both heal and do dps to be useful.

The whole point of the flexibility of the system is to be able to play what you WANT. I decided to make a healer cleric, so what? Its not the only thing I play, as I stated, but it is my main character. Its not even the only spec I have on the cleric, I just noticed that the pure healer is getting far less Rift rewards, that's all

It was stated earlier in the thread that healing AND attacking kills the Rift reward. If that's true, it kind of defeats the purpose. I don't know that personally, just going on what info is being thrown around.

Hahaha. I must just SUCK at healing (totally plausible!)
I am Kind of a Big Deal.
Do you also love scotch?
I have many leather-bound books.
I wanna say something...I wanna put it out there. If you like it take it, if you don't...send it right back.... I wanna be on you....WAIT

That is not true its based on amount of attacks you use, my Cholromancer has finished at top of nearly every Rift i have done and i attacked/healed.

Yes, you're definitely not in Azeroth anymore. You're in Rift where simplified button mashing has reached a whole new level. Why play your healer as intended when you can spam your search for ore ability and rock the Rift contribution charts. I always wondered why my Shaman never got higher than a 3 in Rifts contribution.
I remember Warhammer Online having similar issues with their Public Quests. So apparently gaming companies can copy and paste other games ideas to the point they forget to leave out the unwanted bugs.
Flawless!
To be fair, Warhammers system was fubar from day 1. I remember walking into PQ's, doing nothing and getting top contribution. In pvp often it seemed it was based on how long you'd been in the area as opposed to what you had done, chief example being the city sieges, top contributor was usually top three the entire instance.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy

As zin mentioned WAR used PQ and contribution for everything including keeps so your tier loot depends on it. Where as contribution on Rifts doesn't matter that much in the end. What people want is rift consumables which everyone gets regardless of your contribution points.
