Dragon Age 2 a let down for me.

ajax7ajax7 Member Posts: 363

Well I down loaded and played Dragon Age 2 my first impressions where not good.

First I down loaded and and installed the trial and had problems with it running wow 1st game I have had issues running on my new PC.

I would get to a ceartain part of the story and it would lock up and Crash. I had to open task manager to kill the app.

I tried again 3 days latter and they must have pushed something to my PC because it seemed different and I was able to get the orge fight.

But here it would lock up and crash again or I died before that happened at this point I couldnt get past to tough for me on normal I know lame.

First thing I noticed was no I could not customize my toons face wise or hight etc. Very limted.

Also combat seems to fast no time for tactical pausing, when I did it didnt help much it seemed to me.

I a very big BIO Ware fan but this might be the first Time I pass on one of their games in a while.

I gues I was looking for a game very simular to Dragon Age Orgins but this game is very different for sure.

Still deciding I might wait a month and see what happens I wish I would have done that with Star Trek jumpped in too early hoping for a good game that wasnt.

Would you please stop destroying the english language. I would also like to point out the demo doesn't allow you to customize your character outside of the gender. Waiting a while after the launch of a title to see how it fairs isn't a bad idea. In this case your probably passing up a chance at one of the only true GOTY title contenders.

You aren't allowed to customize your characters looks in the demo. A lot of the features are locked - including the inventory.

I personally found the combat to be just about the same as the first, but faster paced and much more fun to watch. I've heard it's different on a console, but I have no plans to play it there.

And.. no problems with crashing or lockups. You may want to try the obligatory driver updates and what not.

It has little to do with your computer I believe, everytime I've had these problems I went back, disconnected from the net and played and have never had a lock up. As far as I can tell these issues are in their own servers which connect to your pc or consol while your playing and update your status to their servers. It is an issue they seem to not care about and have done damn little to fix, which can be very bad seeing as how the normal game uses the same servers.

Yeah many things are disabled in the demo, and most of the complaints there seem to be client side problems :P But the feeling of a possible let down is there for me too.

I played it on PS3, and though I dislike how it plays I can overlook the console controls (there is no autoattack in console versions, just a lot of clunky feeling XXXXXXsquareXXXXXtriangle spamming), but the limited/simplified choices (such as race/origin for example and the difference they had on character interaction/dialog) all have me concerned and questioning the replayability of this sequel.

Then there is also how the game is to take place within a single city - kirkwall. Being confined to one location doesn't really fly with me in a fantasy rpg, i'm sure the city will be large and change slightly according to choices made, but still, that's not very adventureous or ambitious, and that will likely force us to run back and forth through the same locations over and over again..

But what seems the most concerning to me, is they've been keeping info from getting out or something lol. There hasn't been any reviews put out there yet and release is only days away. That is just strange to see now since reviews normally get put out weeks in advance these days, especially so for the big budget "blockbuster's" available on consoles.

Anyways, i've expressed myself enough in other forums to not really want to get into details of weither or not the changes made are good or bad anymore. There really is no way of telling for sure until playing it yourself or atleast reading an in-depth review from a reliable and trusted source (which we can't do, still).

Bottom line is, despite all my dislikes and concerns, I still plan on buying it on the 8th anyways.. lol

There really isn't much else of interest for the next few months, so it's release date is just about perfect to make uninformed purchases reguardless.

Why he is prolly not from england, its not his native language so live with it or dont read thank you:)

It becomes GOTY only becouse of all follow blindly bioware even when its totally crap and DA2 is crap so if this game is game of year i seriously doub that, but then if this the case there must be money involved to get it number one.

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

Game ran fine on Ps3 and PC , i played both to see the graphic difference , you can still play tactical put it on hard and enjoy even though they seem to have simplified certains features it's pretty much the same game except for a speed up in combat instead of doing nothing a mage can whack his staff .

overall alot of players have dificulty playing DA on hard setting this is far from Diablo or Dungeon Siege , just take a bit more planning , i intend to buy it on launch .

You played the demo, not the game.  So now that we are clear on that let's point out that this game seems to be more geared towards console playing.  I played the first one on PC and this one I ordered on console.  I'll see tomorrow if I like it, but the demo showed that the combat was far superior than DA1.

I played the demo on the PC and it worked awesomely. Played better that the first one on the same machine I played DA;O on.

I thought the combat was a lot more fun and the graphics were great. can't wait to play tomorrow.

I've got a few questions.. I actually have the signature edition pre ordered but due to lack of funds i probably wont be pickin it up till friday and by then who knows if it'll actually still be the "signature" edition or not.. Either way i wouldn't miss the games release due to how much i loved Orgins.. But on Orgins the reason i loved it so much was because of the Orgins stories and the feeling that you're actually developeing a character from scratch..

Main thing i'am wondering is how much do you're saves from Orgins/Awakening/Ect make a difference when you load the save up in DA2? Is the story gonna play out any differently? One thing i loved about Mass Effect 2 was the lasting descisions, even those made in ME1 made a difference, even though most were minor and small it's still something i really enjoyed.

Oh well, i got till friday to finish the rest of Orgins DLC :) Looking forward to DA2 regardless of the reviews/hype.

I had one crash in six plays (tried all classes and genders) and that was somekind of weird character creation bug so not even game play related.

I love the new speed of the game, at first i had to get used to it but as by my 2th run The big fellow went down in 15 sec by using tactics. I just hope the game offers some freedom, sofar the demo just shown a on rails action game whit a great story, I hope the final product offers a bit more freedom. still would be worth the money tho.

Agreed I have an average computer and it played perfectly, reminds me of how mass effect 2 compared to mass effect

you can load your origins as background story with completed save their are like four or five options as what to choose as a background and that's one the most you may get is a few perks or dialogue choices different especially with flemeth and morrigian though morrigian is only mentioned so far in the game

Really? to fast for you? its barely faster then DAO, aside from opener attacks, and really if you cant find time to hit your space bar i think you have a problem.

This, aside from being streamlined a bit ( "dumbed down" for you fanboys out there that  dont understand what streamlining is) it plays almost exactly the same, aside from the openers, which you could get in kotor/kotor2 yet i dont see anyone calling that an action rpg.

Some pretty CRAZY performance issues.  Like....the worst I've seen for such a mainstream game.

Even with upgrading my drivers to beta stuff, me and a slew of others are running into problems.  It seems to be all high end computers too with everything turned on.  Seems to be related to tessleation.

I can play any other game with everything all the way up.  With this all the way up (minus screen space ambient occlusion, that just doesn't seem to be optimized with many high end comps), I stutter like crazy as if my computer is three years old.

It got to the point where I was feeling sick.

But at least the game is quite fun.  If you have a great computer, I'd wait a week or three till they fix this terribleness.

You really want him to speak in his own language? Do you realise hes making the effort to speak in YOUR language?  Just acknowledge the effort made and live with it. some people speaking english as a first language write even worst than him. Anyway you did understoond the comment so whats the big deal ?

yes, except OP is from Texas... So unless in Texas became a Spanish-only state, I think English is his first language.

And language did matter, even if you write about your hobby. Bad grammar and wrong spelling won't get you anywhere. One occasionale mistake is okay, but OP's message has too many to be bypassed.

I haven't had any performance issues. The game has been quite fun so far. I still don't like only having one starter area though, I much prefered Origins in that respect.

I've managed to reach act 2 and I'm already starting to regret buying the game. It has it's moments of fun, but the reuse of the same floor plan for maps over and over has gone past annoying, to the point where I began to amuse myself with a running tab of how many times I have seen this one, and on into me wanting to write bioware a nice letter on how lazy they are. Seriously, do all the side quests, by mid act 2 you have seen the cavern floor plan from inside Sundermount more than seven times. The only thing that changes in 6 of those is what doors you can and can't open. The one that is different is on the exiled princes redemption quest, in which the floor stays the same, but the walls get changed from cave to underground ruin.

As for the game itself, the repedative maps, and huge gaps in the narrative, (in which Hawke doesn't  level or apparently do anything other than blow money and sit on his butt)  make it hard to care about Hawke at all. The promissed impact of each acts actions on the city itself are not as grand as I'd like, for the most part it has boiled down to a whole bunch of letters and no real changes other than some new house guests for Hawke. I've reached a point where I could care less about Hawke and am playing just to see what happens with the supporting cast.

The attempt to make DA:O into a mass effect like game in DA2 has failed in my book. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am, but you have to admit they reuse the floor plans way to much.
