Any info about business model?

Maki2Maki2 Member UncommonPosts: 43

I am just wondering is it known which business model will this game use?

XL games didn't decide on a business model yet but according to rumours it will be free to play. So I guess that brings a cash shop with it... let's see how that works out.

Cash shop in a sandbox game? Ugh, I can see a bajillion problems just waiting to happen with that combination. But, we'll see I suppose.

I hope they make a slightly more odd choice for their payment model, such as B2P.

    My opinion - P2P.

But there was no official statement yet, i doubt there will be a f2p system.

I would hope this is a P2P deal, Their english website is pretty desolate at the moment so I'm thirsty for info!

Given they paid a BOMB in cash to use the engine they are using, I have a strong susspision that its going to be a Monthly Subscription game.

Something as large scale and complex as Archeage is going to be will not be viable as a free to play title, and I pray to god that it is a monthly subscription game, all this free to play crap is just that crap.

Agreed! I'd like to make an assumption that the community in a P2P game is a bit better as well.

This is entirely my own speculation, but since Jake Song stated that this game's target audience is the West (NA & EU) that it will be a subscription based game.

I really hope so.  Only heard about this game a few months ago, but everything I have read about it makes it seem right up my alley.  If it's F2P, welp, I probably wont even bother with it.  I still cannot take a F2P game seriously (sorry f2p junkies!).

    Fingers crossed its P2P!

    P2P all the way.

I would try it F2P but with how much PvP there is I think it would hurt the game.  The quality that AA looks to have more than warrants a sub and the titles that Jake Song is known for are all worldwide subscription based games.  I doubt XLG would take a chance on a F2P model.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Because of the high budget (60 million dollars?) I would indeed expect Arche Age to be p2p.

According to mmosite.com, a site that's more into Asian games then mmorpg.com, it will be free to play though, but I guess this is not true. Myself I am hoping for it to be b2p, but no high hopes on that :<

Not hoping it will be B2P at all... Id rather give the devs development funds to ensure maximum ongoing development of the game.

I totally agree, although in Korea the Cash Shops are the main source of income, so there is a big chance this will be F2P

Reading between the lines of some comments made in interviews, it may be F2P in Korea since that's the business model they're accustomed to.  But it seemed to hint that this will be P2P for the west.

"The second question is related to ArcheAge’s revenue model. Is it going to be P2P or F2P? If you are not ready to answer this question now please let us know what payment way you personally think is preferable.

We have not made any decision regarding the business model, but we are open to each market’s needs."
