Im sure these were answered somewhere, but I dont want to spend too much time browsing for the answers...
- How is the gold buyer spam? annoying? Avoidable? This is a big issue for me, I hate it so much.
- Is it soloable all the way up? Ilove grouping too, but with my work/life I cannot make any solid commitments - just finished a 25 hour shift at work with no notice
- Does it involve a lot of grinding/doing the same type of things over and over to level up casually (2-3 hours a day, 3-5 hours on weekends)? Or can you switch around easily between dungeon runs, questing or other leveling activities?
A bit of background on my experiences:
WoW, GW - loved them. Vanguard - liked it a lot. LOTRO, WAR - tried, meh, s'ok. Eve- good, but requires too much commitment. hate pretty much all asian free games - too much spam/grind.
I played WoW the most (on and off since beta), did not try Cata nor am I planning to. Considering this, would you recommend Rift to me? if yes/no then why?
Please keep it brief and civil. Thanks yall for any constructive input.

Gold spamming is ok, i get a mail or two sometime and i saw maybe 2 spams in chat.
You can easily solo all the way up...there are a few group quests. You can join group for Rift and invasion in a zone in a simple click. You press ''Join public group'' and youre set.
You can do instances, Rifts/invasion, Warfront and quests while leveling and you can switch between them easily. They all give experience too.
My favorite games were WOW ( played for 5 years) and GW (1 year) too and i'm loving Rift. I will suscribe when the initial 30 days is finished. I recommend this game.
Every now and then in the starting area's i see someone posting in chat not spamming, but it's there, and i get mail every now and then
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
6142MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Antec Gaming Phenom
Windows Vista Home Premium
I agree with the above.
Spam is there but tolerable. You ignore, they go away. They've resorted to using in game mail (costs them money to do so) and Trion is working on that.
I solo 9/10's of my time. I haven't found a guild I like and the one that I do like is extremely small so it's pretty much like solo'ing. I do Raid up for the rifts though (easy with the join public group button) and I will do so if I see someone about to pwn the creature I need for a quest. Click in, kill the beast, leave.
For options you have questing, Rifts (major and minor invasion), PvP in either warfront (PVE servers) and/or world (PvP servers... recommend), crafting... 3 professions (2 gathering, 1 major) with daily quests to get tokens to earn rarer recipes. Freemarch chat ALWAYS has people to talk to for fun times.
I work a job where I have to be able to leave my house at the drop of a hat, and I play this game. I love it for this reason. I may log in for a 18 hr stretch and not touch the game again for 3 days. It's a pretty flexible system. Having up to 4 roles (think talent trees) that I can swap between means my healer can become a dps'r or an off tank clicking a button. I like the system.
Your option but I have to say.. the game is barely out and Trion is fixing everything that comes across their desk. They say they'll be down for 30 minutes and it only takes 10. The fix stuff in between major patches. For example, they had an issue with Runebreaking items (think disenchant) causing economic issues (read: someone was abusing the system and earning infinite money). Trion pulled it down, less the 24 hrs later it was back and fixed.
Rumor has it they're already getting ready some new end game items (even though endgame now is still clearly double and triple what their counterparts have released at launch).
Thank you all for taking time to reply.
I like what I hear so far, so I think I will be buying it tommorow.
Is PvP on PvE server forced? I was never fond of PvP, mainly due to inbalances in WoW (healers with 25K+ health, etc etc), But I do not mind dipping into it once in a while. I just want it to be my choice.
Crafting: I loved crafting in WoW, I maxed out pretty much everything in crafting and I played the market extensively - earning 10K by selling goods or playing the market was normal to me. How does that relate to Rift crafting?
Thanks again for any input.

Crafting is very similar to WoW, with a few exceptions:
- You can add 'buff items' to crafting recipes to add extra stats. this introduces a small element of potential failure, but it's absolutely not required for levelling the professions anyway.
- The items you make are better for your level than WoW. You'll often use your crafted gear.
- Most crafting professions give you an ability to breakdown a relevant item (so an armoursmith can break down a breastplate) to try and get some materials from it.
- It's easier to level. Levelling in Rift is pretty fast, and you never feel held back by needing to mine/forage more in the current zone to bring your crafting levels up to speed before moving on.
- There's crafting dailies. Make a certain amount of 'xxx' and hand it in to a quartermaster. You get a special currency for doing this that you can buy special recipes with. I think it might be a little like the JC dailies in WoW, although I never did them. It applies to all the crafting professions anyway.
Regarding soloing - totally possible, but you can group easily anyway. Many of the Rifts and especially the invasion events are really group material, but as long as there's someone else in the area you press one button and automatically join their group or raid. Spend 5 mins killing the rift or 30 mins doing the invasion, leave group, job done.
