Looking forward to TOR, I will be pre-ordering, but there is no way to spin this. The space game looks so crap they would have done themselves favours by just leaving it out and saying they'll add it later.
Agreed.
While I am looking forward to the game, they should have just left the ships as a form of housing and held off on the space aspect until a future expansion.
This arcade "Galaga style" AI half assed space combat is pathetic considering this is an mmo and it's 2011.
it would have made more sense, as it stands, the space part of the game only increases the negativity towards the game, not exactly a smart move.. especially as there will be the inevitable comparisons, in which the space part of the game will look increasingly naff..
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Looks fucking stupid. It's one of those on-rails shoot 'em up games from the arcade I used to hang out in back in the 80's. What a waste of time this was...
So one fighter ship, or whatever, destroyed over 60 interceptors and took on a capital ship?
Brilliant... that's immersion for you!
So, one Y-wing fighter destroys a horde of Tie-fighters and a Deathstar? 2 Times?
So, a warrior/mage/rogue/cleric massacres hundreds of enemies and clears out a complete orc/centaur/goblin camp?
Brilliant.
Funny how some other weird unique situations we can take for granted but still can be surprised by other equally special game situations, eh?
And which MMORPG did a Y-wing fighter destroy a Deathstar?
Those situations you bring up are in no way equal. You are just trying to justify something that is obviously silly.
But hey, if it works for you that every player in the game will each destroy thousands of interceptors and single handedly take on capital ships then go right ahead and get immersed.
For me it is just stupid and an immersion killer and shows that Bioware thinks this is a single player game and have designed it as such.
Am i the only one here that thinks this looks terrible? Reminds me of Star Fox but with better graphics... What the hell are they spending there money on?
This game will only appeal to the 16yr old to 22yr console gamers and will get no love from the MMORPG community.
Nah.
Starfox had more action, more wingmen involvement (including saving your wingman), secrets to uncover, considerably fewer bombs (aka missles), and much more movement required by the player to avoid failure in spite of being on rails.
SW:TOR looks like "hold down mouse button, move mouse a little, and win".
impressive graphics(the guys who did STO should take note, because this is ship interiors done right), but, it's still space on rails, and rails are fail. they have the budget; they could have used JTL as a template and given us something truly amazing in space, instead of a (admittedly pretty) tack-on rail-fail. c'mon TOR devs, give us the whole deal in space, not a mcnugget.

Honestly I've always found this absurd too. That, and how every sentient enemy being in the world is apparently both blind and deaf because I can kill his buddies 10 feet away and they haven't a clue of the slaughter.

The thing is, there are games where this isn't the case and they are all critisised by a lot of players for being broken, that mobs attack them from miles away before they even see them. You have to draw a line somewhere and many players seem to like that line drawn to a level that unless you attack them or a linked mob they'll leave you be.

I won't say that it won't be fun, but if I wanted space combat, that doesn't look like it would satisfy. Also I don't know how many of those kinds of missons I could do before they became maddening.
What a joke. The area is big enough to allow a player to fly the ship on there own, but they still keep it on rails. Why not just replace it with Whack-a-mole game since that is basicly what you are doing. Hold mouse button and make mouse cursor follow target while on rails. I rather they remove that portion of the game. I hope they didnt simplify the rest of the game....but then look what they turned DA2 into.
@all the sandbox fans, we get that you don't like games that are not a sandbox. So please can you do us all a favour and go play a sandbox game. They never claimed their game will be a sandbox. They are going for a themepark. Is this concept so hard to grasp. Why are you still whining that it's not a sandbox? It is not gonna be a sandbox. No, sandbox. Themepark. So all of the comments that it is on rails and how it is a single player game etc etc. are pointless. Go play a game that is a sandbox. We can get excited about our "crappy" themepark game. Do you see me going over to a sandbox's game to say how they have no quests in them? No. So please > sandboxes > this way >

An arcade rail shooter is too basic a feature to even be part of the themepark/sandbox debate.
Says you. Arcade shooters can be extremely fun and some of them take a lot of skill. You can't say how difficult this will be because you have no info on level of this mission etc etc.
The fact that you are using my favourite word "rail(s)" means you are a sandbox fan. So if you are not interested in themeparks don't read up on them.

Themepark mmos dont put things on rails. Sorry, but the rail system for space combat is retarded and removes the immersion and shows the lack of creativity or maybe laziness of Bioware.

I must say i am shocked with bioware, a company that has a great track record, but im

belongs on the wii for 3 yrs olds, not mature & skilled mmo players

Rails means you have no control of direction of say starship. You cant stop or turn around. Not having complete control of the spaceship other then firing weapons and moving left to right up and down on the screen.
