Do Not Use Allakhazam!

TheFarseerTheFarseer Member Posts: 97

Do NOT.

DO NOT!

Do not use the Allakhazam (zam.com) website for the soul builder. I am 99.9% sure this is the common factor between all hacked players. It is the only Rift-related site I have deactivated noscript for (except MMORPG.com, and I use a different username, email and password there) and people have mentioned that they have found zam's ads trying to install spyware and rootkits on their PCs.

I repeat this again:-

DO NOT USE THE ALLAKHAZAM (ZAM.COM) WEBSITE FOR RIFT PURPOSES! IT IS MOST LIKELY THE COMPROMISED SITE THAT RESULTS IN HACKING!

EDIT: When I posted this on the Rift forums, I got a warning for "trolling". WTF?! My post got deleted, too.

I don't discount this regarding rift but i must admit to using Allakhazam a lot for SWG back the day, didn't have any problems back then. That said it wouldn't suprise me these days as i haven't used it in a very long time.

So you personally know a lot of guys who have been hacked and you also know they use the soul builder on that site? This seems rather odd, that you would know a lot of people who had their accounts hacked.

When using any website as long as your IE security is good and you have a solid firewall in place you should not have problems, if any warning messages come up do not use the site.

  • peteski123peteski123 Member UncommonPosts: 447

Maybe it is and maybe it is not, either way you are telling people not to use a long standing mmo site with no evidence.

Not really the right way to go about it and I am not surprised you were warned and posts deleted. Have you spoke to Allakhazams yet??? what did they say ????

Watch out for random drops in plat amounts between log in sessions. As far as everyone knows, that's how they're doing it. Logging you in, randomly stealing plat and then logging out again. No password changes or anything.

It seems a LOT (and when I mean a lot, I do mean the vast majority) of people have been hacked. There're probably a lot more who've been hacked and not realised it. Read above.

It's not Zam that's the issue, it's the ads it has. Even WoW had issue with the ads back in the day on their mainforum where the ads were goldsellers or would try to install keyloggers on your system.

It's good to inform people of potential scams but accusing a business of something like that without a solid proof it's not fair either.

I've never being keylogged in my life and I have hundreds of accounts, people who uses the Net should protect their PCs appropriately, it is their responsability.

I Use Firefox browser, Comodo Firewall, Avira Antivirus and Ad-Aware antimalware, all constantly running on the background

And never use the same password for everything

It could also be a possibility (with so many being affected) that the last patch broke something/introduced a bug as i have read on the main forum that is freely available that most people started having these problems that coincided with the patch. I cannot see that many all using allakhazam.

Me, i am glad i decided to wait (having jumped straight into new released games) and have server probs (overcrowding of starter area's) lagg, log in queue's etc and bugs too. I decided to wait for a month and let things settle down. This is probably the main thing thats going to hold me back for a little longer, aion isnt doing anything for me (bored after 2 weeks) wih a 34 cleric and 28 ranger, not sure if i will see out the remaining time, probably going to renew my WoW account (again) sigh.

  • I had an advertisment on a wikia page install some malicious software before.

This stuff can come from anywhere when these guys are getting dynamically served ads.  So beware.

Its not always the business its often an ad server getting hacked and putting malicious stuff into an ad that niether the ad service, the ad maker, nor the website know about.

All three can be unwitting accomplices.  And if its only one ad out of 10.  Even better because the pattern will be harder to spot.

It's not just zam. A random ad there seem to be just one source. Browser nabbed a download before it started at the wiki too. I wish there were means to report ads on some of these sites...

It's not fair just to point a finger of blame at them. Though with their entirely too useful soul builder utility they will likely be the most mentioned source anyway.

Talk about no good deed for the community going unpunished. I actually feel bad for them at zam.

Did some of you list ads as safe somehow? Scripts? Trust nothing on the web.

Same, except I use admuncher. Well worth the money for it. No ads in online streaming videos!!

The majority of players that get hacked get hacked because one or more of the following is true.

    * they nearly always use the same password and email address for the sites they use and the passwords are simple. Some people, shocklingly, actually still use "password".

    * they will click * anything * so they can watch their pirated movies or torrent anything

    * they will click * anything * if it claims to do something amazing on facebook.

I knew a guy once, true story, that had Antivirus 2010 (a malware) 10 minutes after starting his brand new computer. First thing he did was downloaded with the pirated movie site told him to.

Other games probably are more secure, after years of being able to tweak things but the major difference for games like FFXI and the Antichrist of games is authenticators. Trion seriously needs to write a software (mobile device) version while they negotiate a hardware version. Some enforcement on password structure would go a long way.

Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug.

    QFT

It's the age of the hidden executable.  Noscript is the answer.

Well, since you can't provide a shred of evidence I can see why they deleted it.  I use the soul builder all the time and haven't had any issues with RIFT.  However, my RIFT password is unique to that game only and I have a separate game email address for my username.  I keep my antivirus up to date as well.

    Who uses (Allakha)Zam anyway?

    Their design is simply awful.

Key loggers will win against your strategy.  Antivirus is like brushing your teeth, does not mean you will not get a cavity if you keep brushing your teeth.  He is right, and it has nothing to do with the website, it's the advertisements they host on them (which often is not in their control).

This problem is hard to control and Antivirus should never be your only defense.

retarded topic >.< .... use common sense... dont use same login/password anywhere.. download firefox and plugins noscript+adblock... dont download p0rn from fishy sites and u will be ok like me :P playing MMO's since 1994 and never had problem like u guys lol....

That's what happens when a gold farming company buys a MMO Fansite. Even though they all claim to be not part of the gold farming company any longer...it's not rocket science.

I got hacked as well in Rift. Never used any of those sites. Not sure how I let them in. However once I reported it I was very impressed as I had all of my stuff back on all servers within 30 mins.

I used to use it for swg.  But I'll keep this in mind.

Lol I'm sorry but....the vast majority of players have been hacked in Rift?  You are saying that more than half of the whole entire population has been hacked?  Might be exaggerating a tiny bit there.
