rift buy or not?

Asking the forums is a dangerous place.

If you are deciding to buy a game or not, want a advice of which game to buy... the forums ARE dangerous.

    Why?

Because NO ONE will give you a realistic or the right answer. NO ONE.

A review don't work. MANY reviews work.

The secret is simple, watch a few people reviewing the game, don't fall for the trap of they saying: "This isn't this and that" but think more of what the game REALLY offers you right now. Don't follow the Hype. The bigger they are, the harder they may fall, but at the same time, they may end up on a gigantic fortress with dukes and belly dancers. Don't follow the hype, follow what you like and learn what the game offers.

If you, not what others say, find something lacking for your taste, then you may think this: "Does a MMO, at this moment, offer what I want?" If no, then you better keep your dreams for a new generation. If not, enjoy what YOU, and only YOU think is complete.

People need to learn sooner or later that there isn't a PERFECT MMO. There wasn't, there isn't and there won't be any perfect MMO. You can't simply please everyone with a single tittle, gameplay or other factor you may think. You just CAN'T! Don't ask if it is right to buy... ask your pocket that question and THEN ask yourself, based on the existing professional reviews... and still most of them fail. Just see the common points and do what I said.

With Rift, there are many haters and many fanboys/girls. Everyone will point out facts about why their opinion is superior... like in real life. The truth is, they are just opinions... your the one that needs to build the opinion for yourself.

Hope this helped and try to ignore the "obvious" trolls.

P.S. Oh and another thing... if you ever decide to buy Rift (I don't recommend because, in my opinion, it is a nice game until something bigger and larger appears -not on hype- but on features I like), you don't need to buy the collectors edition digitaly for that extra price... unless you think +4 space bag than normal, a turtle mount and a simple companion pet is understandable. Even though, I would buy on a game store or order instead of digital for that edition. It is the same price but you earn more if given directly and not by download and registering, like a mouse pad and other stuff.

    It's simple.

If you like wow with mixed in features from eq2, lotro and similar and aren't burnt out  then it is for you.

    I agree with Aceofspade90...

I'm not here to bash the game or  praise it. I'm just giving my honest opinion. If not for my experience with several other mmorpgs, I might have thought that Rift was one of the best. But I've been blessed with playing many fine multi-player games. Unfortunately, my expectations have risen quite high...perhaps to high and Rift just didn't meet them.

Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.

While that is true there are actually some helpful and rather fair posts as well.

Most posts that both mentions a few good and bad things about the game is rather fair. While those still can't make OP sure the game is for him or not they often helps.

Posts saying that someone just love or hate everything about the game helps no one even though I can understand someone really liking or hating a game posts them.

No one is truly objective but some of us at least tries to be. :)

The tip for people is listing 3 things you like about the game and 3 things you didn't like, that usually helps people more than just being overly positive or negative, it helps no one if someone buys the game expecting it to be something it isn't. We don't like exactly the same games no matter how good or bad they are.

Another great post that makes alot of sense...Loke666. I don't usually agree with Loke but I agree with him that there have been many posts that give good info...but he also gave a great suggestion...list 3 things good and 3 things bad about Rift.

    3 good things.

    1) The soul tree takes your character to a whole new and "self identifying" level. U build your toon as u wish...but this still has pitfalls for the inexperienced player.

    2) Very good character customization. Unlike Wow and several other Mmos your character is again...unique.

    3) The game is polished! I mean very polished!!! Well done and complete...(I've added this after the fact... the game never went down! There was almost no lag and when it did happen it was pretty much unnoticable...and I was playing top end! I'm not going to lie...there were "alot" of ppl playing. Almost every quest I went on there were at least 2 or more players doing the same quest but I was able to complete the quest fairly quickly even with the competition.)

    3 bad things

    1) Quests are repetitive... very repetitive... fall asleep repetitive...did I mention that they are repetitive?

    2) To reach level 50 is so simple even your grandmother could do it. (Also after the fact...I was hoping that reaching top end in this game would be much more difficult. I don't like instant gratification.(In a game anyway lol.) But reaching lvl 50 is far to easy. The game has only been out a couple of weeks and already there are lvl 50 toons running around. I like fighting for every step. Again, I'm definately not a carebear...I want to feel I've earned the next step. U don't get that feeling with this game.

    3) Not much is new! Even the storyline smacks of Wow ROTLK... The rifts are new and inviting at first but soon become a nuisense.

Hope I helped! If you can look past the negitives this game will make you very happy. If not, it is at best a game to pass your time until the game you are waiting for is released...

    Thanks.

Well man, all i can say is listen to ur friend =D the game is good, its a fun Norm game, its work a try at the least, if you got the money and ur lookin for a game, go try it out, you might just be suprised, but for the classes, dont worry so far i aint seeing any over powered classes, and as i see it clerics arent OP you just gotta silence them =] cuz all i gotta do when up against a clerk, is silence them once and they cant get back up on there feet, at least thats how it seems now

This is exactly how I feel.  To me it s a decent filler game, but I myself want a game with lasting power. If you want a game for a few months, then it s decent, if not, don t touch it.

    3 things I like:

    - Soul tree. Like someone pointed out, it gives you ALOT of options, even though you can clearly see "repetetive skills", when I say "repetetive", it means EXACTLY the same but in diferent souls - It takes the same damage, same CD and same everything, just diferent animation AND the element. Eeven though that happends, it is quite understandable. Let me ilustrate: "there is soul A, B, C, D and E. You pick soul A, B and D. A and D haves one of those skills. You say 'Why they repeated?! This game is a fraud!' Not true... If you picked the combo of soul B, D and E, you wouldn't had repetetive skills. Maybe you picked a bad combo... with bad, it means you picked a combo with similar skills, but diferent elements.

    - Rifts/Invasions/World(Mass area)events. People say it is repetitive. Of course it will get repetetive if you decide to join every goddamm rift it appears in 24 hours. HARDLY, in a week, you get a similar rift/enconter/event. Let me show you why: There are 6 elements of rifts (Death, Life, Water, Fire, Earth, Air/Lightning). Multiply 6 with 10 diferent rifts (60 so far). Each of those 10 diferent group of mobs that may appear from each element, the number of enemies and dificulty may differ. Multiply 60 with 10. You will get 600 diferent rifts. Invasions are a little less diferent... 5 diferent groups PER element (6*5 = 30) plus adds per group, probably (and will say a random number here) 10 (30*10=300). 600 diferent rifts and 300 diferent groups of invasions so far. World wide events are around 6 diferent per zone, with a scale of 3 diferent levels. (6*3 = 18 in one zone). Those world wide events have rifts (600) and invasions (300). 18*600*300 = 3240000 diferent rifts/invasions/world events POSSIBLE (counting every detail diference, not the mobs itself). Add that with diferent World PvP if you are on a PvP server and a few players from the other faction trying to mess your way and you get even more... so multiply that huge number with almost infitive experience of PvP. Repetetive is subjective. I find amusing in the diversity. It is almost impossible to impossible to try everything. People DECLARE to be repetetive because they easily link stuff together, like "it's a life rift", they fail to see the diferences in each rift. It ain't the mobs variaty, but the experience variety. It will never be the same for everyone. Each time you level, it will be diferent. Each time you level, you will have diferent combo of achievements (unless you HUNT down a certain achieve).

    - Graphics. If there is one person that says "Graphics mean nothing, gameplay/features come first"... I am one. Still, I can say that these graphics/fantasy theme is hard to deny the awsomeness compared to anything you ever saw so far in this generation. The environment fells RIGHT, the animations fell RIGHT (there ain't no mombo-jumbo of flying atletic twists in the air just to poke a guy's face, that is why I love it.). My brother saw Rift yesterday and said: "The animations look simple... there isn't no acrobatic flips or exagerated animations... it sucks, I don't fell like a hero in this game but more like a 'one more guy'." Well, bro, true... but how wouldn't be true that, if for every skill, there was major flashy things and acrobatic people, they wouldn't be special neither? Sure, you would feel like a hero but... you would feel like 'another acrobatic and fantastic hero, it sure ain't fantastic when everyone is'. THE LORE NPC's are the ones that must be the heroes, not you, on a MMO. In a MMO, your just another soldier/civilian/medic/worker/etc... not a hero. Want to fell like a hero? Play a super-hero online game... I'm sure everyone is a hero or villian... like the millions of others in that small pack you call a world.

    3 things I dislike:

    - Community. Unless you have REAL friends, for now (at least the 'free month), you will have trolls... oh boy. They aren't the "smart" troll or "funny", but more like a prankster that decides to "prank" a friend by punching in his mouth instead of a clever trickery. Time will tell though.

    - Warfronts. If you are more of a "Battlegroud" theory... this game haves, for all tastes... but the strategy is quite easy to understand... the problem will be to make your team (unless it is a pre-made) actually DO it. The good thing though is that the queue is almost automatic in almost all hours, factions and levels (except 30-39 for some reason... I heard it is lacking more players on those brackets). Talking about brackets, the game should have smaller brackets... but they make it up anyway by ajusting your status to make up for the lack of level in a Warfront, but that doesn't mean you will easily kill a high level person compared to you, but YES, giving you a larger chance to not die rapidly.

    - Quests. They are the basic formulas you saw in any MMO you may think off. The good thing is that your quest hubs or areas can be affected by invading forces, forcing you to stop questing and actually do something usefull now and then. STILL people don't like their quest huds beying invaded... I find that SUPER ridiculous to troll about. I mean, cmon... it is a MMO with the name RIFT. Any person knows what it means, without even playing or looking, but just by the name. It means you will get invaded HARD by people behind portals to another dimensions. How could you troll or cry over the game objective? It's like ordering chocolate and cry because it tastes like chocolate. Dude, you asked chocolate... what did you wanted? Strawberry? Then order a strawberry next time... don't force the chocolate to turn strawberry... you have strawberry for strawberry.

IMO if you just want to try out an rpg is worth the 50 bucks after 1 month you can decide whether you want to remain subscribed or not.

Very constructive feedback... and it ain't a rpg... but a MMO-rpg.

    Obvious troll is obvious.

And no problem roelvvv, enjoy the game if you like it, if not, well, everyone haves their opinion. Just come back to this topic to submit your feedback... but not like the troll I quoted, but yes like a intelligent beying with a structured opinion, not a 'I didn't like because I didn't like, worst 50 euros EVA' (basically saying useless stuff, instead of actually saying what the game is and WHY they didn't like it... and no, the clone theory fails miserably and haves been proven 1000000x times)

It is a ultimately a RPG and i meant what i said, this game has enough stand alone single player content that is worth the 50 bucks.

    -Artifacts

    -Quests and chain storylines

    -Achievements

    -Crafting

Clone theory lmao back when WoW came out people claimed it was the EQ clone :p, go to SWTOR forums it is filled with people calling it WoW in space. There will always be people making pointless comparison between MMOs. Even if game is innovative people whine about how it doesn't have GCDs or combos are too hard to remember or pull off with lag (remember AoC?).

being a long time player in WoW, Rift offers a refreshing change which I am happy about. So far, the community seems mature and friendly, definetely worth the $50.00.

If you're worried about flavor of the month specs and such it's so easy to respec or change souls it's not even worth worrying about. It's one of the few MMOs I play where you are not punished for trying different things. Heck you reallyonly ned four toons leveld up to be able to try all the classes.
