I am not sure if I have this right, but you can have up to 3 classes as part of your class? Is there any penalty or benefit to having only 2 or even one class? I am very interested in this game but the whole 3 classes is your role kind of makes me feel like I would have to compile classes that do not mesh together to be competetive in PVE and PVP.
Also to any vets out there playing the game since you can have multiple "specs" are you finding in group situations everyone rolls "need" on everything, since hypothetically anyone could have a tank/healer/dps "spec"?
Thanks in advance for useful information.

Answer 1:
By level 6 you have to choose 3 souls. These three souls are out of 8 total for your calling. When you hit level 13 to 15 you get to main city and will be able to unlock (via simple quest) each of your other souls for your calling. You have to spend points in at least 2 souls since the game gives you extra points for use in this.
Once you have unlocked your souls you have the ability to reset your soul choices at your trainer any time for money. So you are never LOCKED into any soul choices. You can even reset the beginning choices you made.
Answer 2:
You have 4 roles that are available for purchase from your trainer. You will definately use these roles as you get higher in level for different content. Soloing, grouping, PvP, and raiding will more than likely have you switching specs as needed and it's just a click of a button out of combat.
There is also a 9th soul which can be unlocked via PvP points and is useful at higher levels for PvP.
The most fun part is fiddling with the different builds you can make and the only side effect of resetting your roles is the loss of some gold (not a big deal later on).
Answer 3:
If you are in a group you usually have only 1 or 2 of each calling in the group since groups only have max of 5 people. You need a tank, healer, and cc/dps.
The loot in the game is broken down into the 4 types of calling since each calling is limited to certain gears. Sometimes you will have to roll N with another person for rings or weapons. There are also quest related rewards and dungeon completion rewards that you can choose from as well in a dungeon run which you do not split with anyone.
You may know this already, but my hunch says you don't so here goes:
You can be a tank/healer/dps so to speak, however not in the way I interpreted your post. If you choose your first soul to be a Warrior, then all of your souls have to be Warriors. Now warriors do vary, some are best at tanking, some are best at dps, and some can heal. That is true in the Warrior line, Cleric line, Mage line, and Rouge line.
My Cleric has a soul (justicar) who can tank, however the Warrior tank classes are the premiere tanks and I know my Cleric is not as effective. Same goes the other way around. A Cleric Warden is one of the premiere healers in the game. Now a Warrior Paladin can heal, but in no way will it out heal my warden.
Why I feel this needed to be cleared up is because Warriors, Cleric, Mages, and Rouges can't equip all the same things. Warriors can wield the strongest armor so they can wear anything in the game however cloth armor is greatly inferior to their plate armor. No Warrior will want to equip armor for another class. Mages wear the cloth armor I believe and can never wear any of the leather, mail, plate armor. So to answer your question everyone passes or rolls greed on the stuff that wasn't meant for the class their souls are in, that is unless their being loot whores which I haven't encountered much in this game.
Hmm, a bit hard to explain. First of all, whatever you choose (rogue, druid, warrior etc...), you can be a melee dps, ranged dps, healer and tank. You can mix from 8 possibilities into 3 available "souls". Of course some of the available 8 souls do not mix well, but there are strange and very interesting combinations you can end with. This means, when you face a rogue, you never know if he's a melee dps (well, rogue in the sense of other mmos), ranged, or a healer (bard to be specific). Or he can be a tank even.
You can have 3 "roles", which means you have slots to store your 3 sole settings, and you can switch to any of them at any time unless you're not actively fighting, even during a dungeon run or warfront (battleground in WoW terms). You purchase roles from a merchant in the main city where you reach at level 8 or sth like that, and it costs money. You can have a maximum of 4 roles.
You don't have to select 3 souls, but it is beneficial to select more than one, as the souls support each other in different ways, and you can mix a tank soul with a melee dps soul and can get a good build. Generaly, PvP builds and PvE builds are different, so you switch from role to role before entering a warfront. If you see a dungeon group is looking for a healer, you can switch to a healer role and join them, or a tank if tank is needed etc.
Generaly speaking, you're not very much affected by your gear, as stats are generic, so you don't get penalty to switch to a healer or a tank, but still there are more suited armors for different "roles". Dungeons are easier than cataclysm dungeons as far as I've seen, or I have run into good random groups. But I have to add that I am lvl45, and I haven't entered raid or expert dungeons yet, and they say that you face different mobs for the same dungeon for different difficulty levels
