Guild Wars 2: Norn Thief Impressions

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Arena.Net's Guild Wars 2 was one of the most keenly anticipated games for fans to see at last week's PAX East trade show. MMORPG.com Lead Writer Bill Murphy was able to get a hands on look at the game, including character creation. Bill chose to take a look at a Norn Thief and has some terrific impressions to share. Check it out!

Unless I’m mistaken, PAX East was the first time players got to go through the character creation process. The actual looks part of creation was still barred because they didn’t want people tooling around for 30 minutes just making hair adjustments. But we had access to all six announced classes, as well as Charr (high level) and Human (also high level) experiences. For my own part I chose to check out the Norn starting area and try the newly revealed Thief. But here’s what’s most interesting about the creation process. After you pick the race, sex, and class you answer a slew of questions which in effect flesh out your character’s biography and set you on the path for your own personal story in the game.

Nothing new really, but a good read. I've seenall of this in the videos without any comments from the player, so It's nice to hear someone's impressions while playing. And yes, Norn are awesome. Keep up the good work.

you had a demo timer...you could have stayed on longer without feeling too guilty...

oh, and the character creation isn't exactly new, but it is nice that the limited character creation that they have is still able to give a feeling of connection to your character. :-)

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

Is GW2 going to be heavily instanced like GW1 (and D&D Online), where you have a shared hub, they instance off of it?  If so, I'll pass.  That's hardly an MMO, and I can't stand it.

However,if GW2 will be more like WoW and LOTRO and DAoC, etc, where most people share and exist in the same world save for dungeons, count me in!

Oy-jord GW2 is fully persistant like current MMOs, do some research on the game and you'll find more about it that you'll like I'm sure.

Lotro probably the most due to it also being a single player faction game, as in; everyone using the same capitals / no open world pvp etc.

A sultry blonde? Not a raven haired temptress like any Irishman should have close to his heart?

Anyway stop playing girls it gives my Irish cousins a bad name. :)

Nah, bad tempered red haired is how they should be. Dated a lady named Niamh from the Gaelic speaking part of Ireland, she would have done all 3 of those choices (passed out, lost something and got into a fight). ;)

Dude how long you been here ? You know as well as I do that everyone will NOT be useing the same capitals. Each race will start in a DIFFERENT place and has it OWN capital. Just like how each race has it own "home town" in Lotro.  GW2 will be nothing like wow or indeed ANY other mmo out there. Oh and GW2 has at least THREE factions you can join not one.

    Top 3 MMO's PRE-CU SWG GW1 GW2

Worst 2 wow and Lotro Under standing stones it went woke

What he meant with the capital comment was that you can enter every capital without problems. With the the factions-comment he meant that there are not factions which are fighting each other. The factions in GW2 are purely for storyline purposes.

mmm, might be a silly question (sorry for that) but is there any good way to point questions & feedback for Arena net about guild wars 2? Blogs cannot be commented and appearently there aren't any official forums, or? So is it just posting on forums like here and hoping for the best? I mean usually they have some Q&A sections but they don't at least cover all questions and feedback I have :).

    Cheers

There isn't open world PvP. There is WvWvW PvP, Arena PvP, and will surely be other structured PvP as well.  Why are you disputing?

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

I absolutely cannot believe that there are STILL people who think that GW2 will be instanced. It's been announced since 2007, and from the very beginning they said that it would be an open world MMO.

They usually read the thoughts, opinions and ideas of the players in GW2Guru.

But the best place to give them your personnal thoughts is in their wiki http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedback:Guild_Wars_2_suggestions (main site: http://wiki.guildwars.com, click "Feedback" in the box at the left --> click GW2 symbol). This site is the only official place where they can use your idea, all the other sites are made by the community and they can't really use any idea you give unless that idea is posted on the wiki too.
