In Rift ... have 1 buff and mainly use only one heal (big heal of the sentinel).
I am a level 44 SentinelWarden (no points in my 3rd soul) and here are my heal-based abilities on my pure healer role:
1 insta cast hot + cooldown
1 castbar hot + no cooldown
1 castbar hot based on the previous 2 hots + cooldown
1 instacast heal + cooldown
1 castbar small heal + no cooldown
1 castbar large heal + no cooldown
1 insta cast heal buff + cooldown that makes my next 3 castbar heals half the cast bar time
1 insta cast heal buff + cooldown that makes my next heal insta heal (useful only if your next heal you cast is a cast bar heal)
1 insta cast heal buff + cooldown that doubles my next heal
So, not sure if you are feating improperly (not not at all), took classes that dont have heals (Yes, there are cleric roles that dont have heals, notably the DPS roles such as Cabalist or Inquistor), or you feated for heals but those icons are not being placed on your hot bar.
My DPS role? 2 total heals, no hots, no heal buffs.
Of course there are a lot of spells, but what I said is, I "mainly use only one heal". It doesnt make any sense to use all that stuff, because the big heal is the best and has no cooldown. You press it and press it again to press it again again.
So pressing 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 *SHIFT* 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 *RELEASE SHIFT* 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 = leetzors challenge healing? That is assuming you use all those bars of heal spells, which I really can see any purpose for it. I have not played EQ2 though....

If you do that you are going to run out of mana pretty quickly the mana regen and mana cost in this game is equivalent to vanilla WoW not like 4.0 where you can pretty much spam big heal non stop.

Ah, I thought you meant you only had 1 heal.
But now that I understand, I find the different types of heals very useful based on the situation. In fact, I like that big heal the worst. It has the worst cast time (bad if someone is getting hit and close to death) and a farily large mana cost (bad for extended fights for not running out of mana). The only time i really ever use the big heal is when I buff it with the insta-heal-buff and extra-healing-amount-buff. Otherwise I find it largely inefficient.
If someone is close to death, i throw the insta-cast heal, the short cast time smaller heal, and the insta-hot. If someone is getting slow-n-steady pound, I throw my hots on - the hots keep em up at 100% and by the time the hots wear out my mana fully regenerated (if i dont attack). As I mentioned earlier, I like the big, slow heal only when I need to give the target a massive boost by buffing it with the insta-cast and super-heal buff.
I forgot to mention the AoE heals too. I have 3 of them, 2 of them are insta-cast, one is castbar. They also have their uses in certain situations during aoe bosses or multiple mobs that the tank can't handle.
Not mind me asking but what your stats for your tank and what instance did you run?
In WoW you need to be heal spammed with any most heroic instance (may be not in wotlk) but Rift is no where as bad as Burning crusade. Remember when SH heroes elites hit thruough plate for 8k and you had to have 2 CCs on 4 pulls?
My stats? My souls you mean? My warrior (when tanking) is a Paladin/Reaver/Warlord.
And like I said, I only played WoW Pre-TBC, so I wouldn't know what the game is like today. From what I've been told it keep getting easier and easier though, so maybe Rift isn't actually easier than the current state of WoW. It's certainly can't be anymore challenging either though, as it's ridiculously simple.
I did some raiding in cata compaired to BC and WOTLK it is hard!. i would probaly say its just a little bit easier than pre BC, on my little noam mage in MC/BWL and AQ20 didnt really progress further than this in vanilla.
though i am currently downloading Rift i cant wait i did try beta and i just couldnt get into it. think it was all the rushing around as it was beta gonna play to have fun
If you are level 50, then you have at least 16 points in some other soul besides Sentinel.
If you are pure healer build then that is most likely either Warden or Purifier.
You use none of the instant cast DoTs or shields from either of those? If not you probably aren't healing that well.
Not to mention to special move like blessing, or buff to make next cast instant or buff to make next heal do 50% more healing.
Not trying to claim Rift healing is somehow amazing, but you info doesn't add up. Just spamming one long cast heal at 50 almost guarantees you are healing poorly. And you absoutely must have some other tools, but you simply are not using them.

Of course you'll use the instant heals sometimes. Chain healing using the big one and throwing in the instant heal from Sentinel if the tank took an extra big hit or whatever. And yeah.. The instant HoT as well. Although claiming that heal is going to make the difference during an instance run is insane.
There are other good skills as well. Like the one that reduces damage by 40% (iirc) for 10 secs or whatever. But having those "cool skills" on long cooldowns means they're not really part of any normal rotation as you can't count on them at all.
You also have to remember that Sentinel heal crits make the next heal cast faster, so it's not like the average cast time of the big heal is actually 3 seconds if you have decent items etc.

To each their own though.

Hmmm so you're saying you can do darkening deeps on autopilot?
Have you even played the game? Darking deeps is actually quite difficult unless you went in with an overleveled group.
