I will play Rift Until...

I know it is a rehash on a lot of questions about the future. I just wanted to state a poll in this manner:

How about until "it ceases to hold my interest".

I just don't understand how some people think. I would never play anything "just to play something " until x game comes out. What a waste of life. Unless of course they find the game enjoyable but they see that there is a game on the horizon that might be closer to their tastes?

I just see so many people saying "I'm playing x because I'm bored and waiting for y to come out". *shivers*.

Why aren't people playing these games because they are fun and enjoyable to play? And acknowledge that no game should have to hold your interest until you die but that over the course of time your tastes might change or cirumstances change.

I certainly hope that if people are playing this or any game that they are having the time of their lives. And if they are not then take control of your life and use it to have the time of your life.

Don't like the answers. I will play it until it is no longer fun for me.

i VOTE #6.... This is a retarded poll.

  • Ren54Ren54 Member Posts: 67

Biased poll..where is the Rift will not fail option?

  • BACONXBACONX Member UncommonPosts: 253

Okay, granted. Answers aren't great. MMO's have a certain addicitveness to them. They offer a connection for a lot of people. Just try playing single player rpgs for several months. It will start to hit you. You'll start to crave the interaction with other people while playing the game. And yes people play games to have fun and yes I should have added "until I get bored with it". I guess I'm just trying to use a poll to specify how powerful TOR and Guild Wars 2 are for the current players of Rift. And just becasue people are playing Rift and waiting on another game does not mean Rift is not fun. It is fun.

  • CeridithCeridith Member UncommonPosts: 2,980

Where's the "Until I stop having fun" option?

  • BACONXBACONX Member UncommonPosts: 253

The rift will not fail option is "till Hell freezes over"- meaning, until the end.

  • JohnnyMotrinJohnnyMotrin Member UncommonPosts: 439

I kind of find it ironic that 57% of voters voted they'll never play Rift, however they're at the Rift discussion forum reading all the threads!  I for one have no interest in Wizard 101 and will never play it.  Because of my lack of interest, I don' t even think about going to that discussion forum "to see what's up", let alone participate in a thread.

I'm thinking about writing a review of this game from my first week... but that usually doesn't bode well with the community here and a huge clash of interests will happen which I've seen happen with almost any player review/impression of a game.  With that said, and with the selections of this poll, I'll have to say, i will most likely keep playing this as my fantasy MMO, and play TOR as my SCI-FI mmo when that comes out.

I never kept up with Rift during it's whole development cycle.  I decided to buy it after watching Total Buscuits' first impression video of it wihch wasn't even a good one, mainly him complaining about how much like WoW everything was, but something about it made me still made me go ahead and dive in, so I went in with low expectations, and so far after a solid week of playing, it has exceeded them in every way and I have been having a VERY fun time with it.

  • BACONXBACONX Member UncommonPosts: 253

Nah, Its cool if people that don't like Rift comment or vote. I read people's thoughts on all kind of games I no longer play or haven't played.

  • GrubbsGradyGrubbsGrady Member UncommonPosts: 371

Should delete this and make a new poll so us folks who are playing rift because we enjoy it, and will continue to do so until we stop can voice our opinions in the results.

I think we will have to wait until SWToR or GW2 comes out.

Players are just putting getting themselves all fired up and really need to play these games to get a realistic sense of them.

Rolfed at that too... how silly, ain't it? That shows that most of the people just want to bash the game in these forums, the real guys that really like the game don't waste time here.

People read the RIFT forum posts because they are constantly showing up on the "current forum activity" links on the front page of the site. Most people, I imagine, don't bother hunting down the RIFT forum itself. I, for one, have never gone to the RIFT forum, BUT.....because you people post so many posts on it all day every day, I see them on the current activity feed all the time. Therefore, I read them.

I don't play RIFT, but I did play through all the beta weekend events up to the last two from the very first one. So I have an interest in the game...enough to read the threads, but not enough to go hunt down the forum proper.

I think people forget that posts show up on the front page of the site......

Rift forums are dramatic because drama sells. It is the same reason you watch the news. If you notice any post that praise Rift go to the second page fast because the people who will bump that post are all playing the game.

Only people who post there are ones with gripes or people who set some unreal expectations of what end game was going to be like.

This is a very valid point I beleive.

I rarely go hunting down thread in the individual forums and only respond usually to what is in the most recent activity box. That being said I only respond to threads of games I have an interest in and have not already expressed my opinion good or bad previously, unless something new about that game is being discussed.

But that's just me,people are free to post there opinions no matter how polarised, biased or ridiculous they are unless the site moderators decide otherwise.Welcome to a public forum folks.

Well, no one is forcing you to read, neitherless answer if you don't want to. Just because it is on the "current activity", it doesn't mean you have to follow and read.

If everyone posted on "Hello Kitty Island", I wouldn't go there, not even if 99% of the people were there and every link sent me there.

If the news talk about sports, I don't watch the news because everyone is watching the news at this hour... I just change the channel and watch a show I like.

You are definitely right about the drama.  Sometimes it's like watching a train wreck.  I feel guilty for stopping to stare, but I just can't pull myself away.  I want to see what's being said.  Good point on jumping to the second (or even third) page of threads too.

Incidentally....I think RIFT is a very solid and polished game. I only chose to not play it because I already pay another subscription fee and don't feel I can afford to add another, AND.....there were things about the game I didn't much care for. However....I understand why a lot of people chose to play it. It just wasn't for me (and neither was having another sub fee...lol).

I think many people will stay with RIFT long term once they start adding updates and whatnot. Some will, of course, move on to or back to other games. It's just the nature of the beast, so to speak.

I will play Rift until it is either a. destroyed by developers and community alike, such as WARHAMMER ONLINE was, or b. until there is just no fun factor left. As of right now, this is th ebest MMO to come out in a very long time.

The likelyhood fo RIFT being destroyed by the Devs is NOT high, they have doen a more than immpressive job of fixxing any and every little thing that might go wrong, quickly, to have one of the most successful launches seen to date. I mean during the Head Start, there were 40 servers all but 4 were high or full population, on launch day, they opened another 18. At that point all but 6 were high/full population, THAT is a HELL of a start! Midday i see half the servers at medium the othe rhalf at high, on the evenings or especially the weekends, high to full on most. I really hope everyone is taking advantage of everythign Rift offers, its truly a hybrid of many good MMO's with twists and turns of its own uniqueness. If you havent checked it out, and you are lookign for soemthing new, with a chaotic fun factor (the rift events), check it out!

Let it be noted that I plan to both play ToR and GW2, and since GW2 is free to play, I will be subbed to RIFT, ToR and still play GW2, and yes I have a life...it just allows me to be able to have a good amount of free time :)

Agree with the above, and I too played the beta but decided it just wasn't for me so am not currently subscribed.  The reason I am still interested in joining the discussions though, is Rift is right now the most relevant new MMO so it is a natural spot to discuss how the MMO genre is evolving.

When SWOTR or GW2 comes out you will find that the focus for those commenting on MMOs in general will move to those forum rather than Rift.  Then Rift will most likely be a conversation of only those that are playing it.

Like it or not, the new MMO on the block gets the attention of those who like or have issues with the current crop of MMOs in general.  As for Rift, I am not playing but it definately has its positives.  Just nothing really new enough for me to run the treadmill again...

GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"
    1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN
    2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements

like many have previously stated, there is no option "until I stop having fun". Personally, I'm  enjoying it very much, unlike WoW, when I log on and feel nauseaus, this game holds my interest well. I saw another idiotic thread where someone stated that RIft was a filler game unitl something better comes along. WTF!? Have we all become so desensitized, that any new MMO released gets hyped, played for two weeks, then quickly becomes boring?

Rift is fun, for me, nuff said.
