I have the need to sratch an itch.. I am trying to find a game with the folowing:
old school SWG style crafting.. or close as it gets- where things mess up and you may or may not get a good outcome.
Good graphics..
No server resets to wipe the game ans start over..
The crafter actually bring meaning to the game by the stuff they make..
payments is optional.. i'll pay 15 bucks.. whatever..
Just really looking for a REALY good crafting game with a life still to it..
I've tried the following
WoW-not really a crafters game
SWG- Id love it.. if it had a meaning anymore and people to play with..
Rift- Already canceled, just a wow clone to me.
A Tale in the Desert- great crafting.. but I'd like to keep my charcter longer than a server wipe.
Ryzom- outdated
Wurm-outdated
PotBS- Did't understand the crafting.
Vanguard- a little outdated
EQ2- seemed like an option, but here bad things about the use of items made.
FFXIV- seemed ok.. but like EQ2.. you gather resources like Wow.. right?
EVE- not really crafting.. more like check list.
there are more i have tried but the fact they don't come to mind.. should tell you the impact they had..
Anyone else starved for a good crafting game?

That's one of the major aspects of an mmo that I wish was taken more seriously in all games listed.
Vanguard is the best for this, IMO. If you get past the oddities in the game I think you might find it fun.
I tried the free trial and it's true you'll like the crafting here. Only reason I didn't mention is because it seems like Vanguard is going nowhere. Not trying to be negative just realistic with the current state of the game.
Yeah, there won't be any new content but the game is massive. What's there should provide a fairly long term home for someone.
Absolutely. It'll hold someones interest until something more meaningful releases.
How do you gather resources? No harvestors or anything like that right? I miss harvestors lol
The world is massive, but the crafting system isn't. It has exactly one crafting puzzle, and a bunch of different skins on it. That people think that's good is just indicative of how bad crafting is in most MMORPGs.

If you're worried about the game wipes in A Tale in the Desert, don't be. Unless you join late in a telling, by the time the reset comes, nearly everyone is just biding time waiting for the reset.
Yup, chop trees, pick plants, skin beasts and all that. Trees actually fall down too.
Problem with Vanguard is 99 % of the stuff you craft is useless / unsellable.
You kill 3 random mobs and you get better gear with the loot.
