Ahaha, pun from FFXIII marketing campaign...

Anyways, I would like to share some observations and maybe get some feedback. First of all, in my opinion, FF XI's class system is something that set it apart. Thats why its easy to get engulfed in it, YOU can be apart of it. In FFXIV (I havent played it, so please feel free to coreect any wrong assupmtions) it seems that things have been made to be bland and over simplified.

Personally I think Summoners, Ninjas, Puppetmasters, ect showed the diversity of Final Fantasy and gave us an opportunity to be these things while following our own story. I have seen videos of FFXIV of how copy pasta'd the areas are. The UI is terrible, and overall the feel is empty. (AND ITS NOT PORTING TO 360. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF........) Short of the 360 situation (but not really) this all greatly affects our ability as players to once again be imersed in an interesting world.

However, I noticed that most of the more interesting classes came from the expansion packs. If Square Enix could pull out a Cataclysm calibur exapansion pack, the game might be able to turn around (and fix the area issues). Now, I know that it is sad that they would have to do something that took Blizzard however many years to have to do. Though, in my opinion, the only thing worse than being a WoW clone is cloning its dev process and having a shitty result. SE should do whats necessary.

Thoughts?

    My thoughts:

SE did an exellent job with their older titles. FFXI was one of the best games I've ever played. But the newer games have been quite different (worse).

As for FFXIV's future, I'm afraid that ship has sailed... The problems with the game are far too many. And many of those problems are core mechanics which you cannot change without making it an entirely different game. And if they do that, they should re-release the game as FFXIV:2 or whatever.

SE has changed, they're not capable of keeping their former glory intact. This is obvious in other games than FF. Great graphics, "recycled-feeling" story-lines, and horrible game play. Pretty, but the fun isn't there anymore. I was a huge fan of SE and their games earlier, now I won't spend money on their games unless I've tried them first. It's sad.

It pains me but I really have to agree. I was thinking of getting back into XI again, do you know if its still worth it?

I don't know. I haven't tried it in a few years. As I said, it's one of the best games I've ever played, but the "wait hours to get a party before you can get anything done at all" system, has kept me from returning.

Lmao, I love how you have to say slightly. The only thing I compared was they way they are developed, even Halo and CoD have some simalarities in that area.

Also Netspook, thanks. I was thinking of starting back up, they suposedly fixed some of those issues.

They aren't waiting for an expansion to do that.

Copy paste is meaningless, the zones are just too large and need to be made more compact... they're full of filler.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

I think the game will get better over time.

Whether or not it will last long enough for those changes to propel the game forward is another thing.

Interesting enough I did notice, just before they shut the servers down, that there were many servers that looked "full".

Of course the game is essentially "free" at the moment. Whether or not players will continue to play once they start the subscription service is also another thing.
