Just like the title, do you think we will be able to actually put bounties on a board or something for player bounty hunters to kill other player's characters? Might be asking a lot but was just curious.

at launch you cannot post real player bounties, if i remember right, a bioware developer talked about this, and the complications.
but im sure someone will link the quote from somewhere
Think they stated, no.
Oh well maybe a bit after launch. Thanks guys, if anyone has the quote link though would be cool to read about their thoughts.

It wouldn't be a stretch. Eve Online allows players to put bounties on each others heads, but it never really took off. It's used, in that game, more for getting some action. For example, I may have a really great ship so no one will mess with me, so I'll put a ridiculously large bounty on my own head just to hopefully get someone to attack me. So you see it really didn't work the way as I'm sure it was intended. Nevertheless, it's very possible that Bioware will put it in there in my opinion. Lata

Player Bounties won’t be in the game at launch.
sadly
edit, also said though : As always with an MMORPG, things may change in the future, but player bounties are not planned for the launch of The Old Republic.
Well etlar, hopefully they will come through. I like that they mentioned that at least, now I know it is at least in their heads and they want it to work well in the game.

What reason would be needed to put a bounty on someone? Because they were trolling in chat? Running around C-net in nothing but underwear or they took your kill(npc) or maybe even killed you (which would imply an open world PvP option. Though lets be honest, if its a flag you can throw on to be PvP anywhere or even if you're just in a PvP battleground and you die, you really have no reason to throw a bounty on someone.)
Anyway, I'm just wondering what jusification can you use to put bounties on people and how to control it with in game mechanics so its not exploited, which it would be.
I love when I get a big bounty on my head in games I play! I just have an alt/friend collect it
If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1000 MPG - Bill Gates
No, this is 2011. What kind of game do you think the developers are capable of, with all that money? Talk some sense, boy.
I doubt it. As much as I would hope they would take swg features like this, in all honesty I think they will take alot more of WoW featreus. Between EA, Lucas Arts, and Bioware they have stated that there will be between 150-350 million dollars in this game at release. Even if you took the low number it would still be costing 5x more to make then any game in history, so as much as I hate to say it I do not think they will try to reinvent the wheel. Imo I think they will do what WoW does just improve on others proven ideas. With that said I am still very much looking foward to this game as I am a big Star Wars fan and a bioware fan as the first NWN even though not a true mmo is what I think got me into mmo's to start with. If it sux though no biggie either I am still having fun with EQ2 and there is an EQ3 being made which in all honesty I am even more looking foward to that as I am hugh eq series fan.
No, not at launch.
It's hard to do in a faction based game anyway and they'd need to make it so every class can use it.
+difficult on PvE servers.

if every class can take on bounties then why even have bounty hunters. Also Jedi would never take on a bounty hunting.
SWG did bounty hunters right. In pvp anywhere in the world when you die you have a chance to put a bounty on your killer. A BH would go to a BH termanal and pick up a random bounty and then send out a seaker droid which would give a round about location of your BH. You then would have to hunt down that person to collect your BH. Everybody else around the fight is safe and can not help eather the player or BH.
This made the game alot more fun. As you became better in PVP your bounty would go up and you whould have to start looking over your shoulder more and more. You never know when you will have to fight off a BH.
I Hope the bioware will put in a system like SWG or somthing simular to SWG BH's
Think about it a little it is just not practical and generally would be open to abuse.

i plan on rolling a bounty hunter, and player bounties would add soo much to that class, that honestly, all the other classes would then complain that they dont have some sort of cool feature i think, anyways, i remember the system well, loved it, and it was freaking well done! (in my memory at least)
yeah, its kind of reassuring knowing that they atleast know and think about such a feature, crossing my fingers
I like the idea with a couple restrictions...
1 i don't like endless repeating chains of bounty, example i bounty you ,then you hire a bounty on that bounty and it never ends.
2 I like the idea of a VAGUE where abouts, nothing to obvious to make it super easy, like maybe just give the zone the player is in.
3 Actually a third restriction...limit how many bounties in a week, maybe one a day or 3 a week. Also limit the price a bounty can have ,say every 10 levels is a set bounty.I guess i would be ok with no limits on the bounty hunter to take on as many bounties as he wants.
I do like limiting Bounty Hunting to only a couple classes, not everyone should be able to do it.The only hard part i see in designing this would be for Bioware to create some sort of equal monetary gains for other classes.Otherwise the Bounty Hunters would be the richest class in game and probably overwhelm the other classes.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
OMFG Its not hard make it costly , go to Jabba , insert name of player, based on level of target and your BH rep charges you X amount and boom player bounty that lasts for so many hrs!!!!
[Mod Edit]
woulda be great to see them at it later, fun element to the game. would probably need a tracking ability as good as the one AoC rangers have, that game did tracking a player/mob right!
tho i still think assassins should have had the same tracking ability for humanoid only. maybe called it "marked for death"
FYI bounty hunters don't post bounties... infact they would never post a bounty... they would look at a board and see posted bounties and hunt... Infact why would a bounty hunter post a bounty... they want money, it's their job to hunt.
This is spot on... Take a page from Blizzard and improve on what has already been attempted. SWG did it effectively.
i beleive you misread his post completely, actually what you said about how bounties work is what he wanted in the game. like other players would be the ones posting the bounties on the boards FOR bounty hunters to hunt and kill for them. bounties could work like a CoDish mechanic, maybe turn in said bounty/players head for the money to be paid by the poster of said bounty.or like the Bounty would be paid up front to an NPC and bounty hunter would turn in the head like a quest item and could have it set to expire like an auction house item where the money would be returned to the poster if the player is never killed within the time.
it could also have a limit to how many times a player can be posted in a week and some sort of global announcement that that bounty has been collected as soon as the player is killed so the player isn't grieved by a line of hunters because the first guy never got around to turn in the head in yet.
Hah thanks for covering that response. But yes I agree, with some limitations could be fun. Like an earlier post about some of the SWG mechanics, that could work.

whats the point of star wars without bounty hunting?
Which begs the question (SWG aside) why do you need player bounties for it to be star wars? I can give plenty of reasons why it's not needed but i'd like to hear some reasons as to why.
Remember you can still collect on bounties (as per the story of the bounty hunter) so i'd like to see reasons why it has to be in the game for it to be star wars.
If i'm right, there was only one bounty going on and that was Bobo fett> Han solo
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
In SWG everyone could potentially pick up the BH profession.
Adding a whole PvP mechanic with its own rewards and incentives to just one class in one faction is simply bad design. Mark my words: BioWare will never ever do that.
Jedi would also canonically never have personal possessions, yet they most certainly will in the game (they did in SWG too). As for Jedi never bounty hunting, they do it all the time in practice: they hunt or track down people and organisations in almost every SW game I've played and even do so in some of the movies and many of the series.
