RIFT.. Make me buy it!

raiko22raiko22 Member Posts: 58

hey i wanna buy RIFT but need to be talked into it

atm i play wow then another mmo for a week then wow then another mmo for a day then wow and then wow

reasons why i leave other mmos are

*Gender locked classes

*Race locked classes

*Hazy or crappy visuals

*Lack of a community

*Crappy tank class.. want to have a good tank to play with

*Crappy rolling system

*To much walking

*Stupid looking helms - i want a cool helm (and shoulders)

*Lack of dungeons

*Crappy scripting and ridiculous agro circles

anyway that a couple of things

i want a game that has the opposite to these points!

WOW passes except for the visual one

Does RIFT pass on all???

    Don't buy it.

I love it, but I don't think you will.

Please don't buy it...or buy it, but don't play it. You will hate it.

well i guess rift looks a bit better than wow.. its not a modern engine so does not look amazing..

As for the rest well its like wow with some extra bits.

Buy it then after you get bored in a week and decide to go back to WoW....Can I has ur stuff?

  • sloebersloeber Member UncommonPosts: 504

i am not here to tell you to buy it......make up your own mind :p

But if wow is all you know and played......then rift will own wow (give the end-game a fiew years and it will OWN wow there too).

    But hey thats just mho.

Nice shots man, clearly superior to wow

i can see where Caldrin is coming from with the far distance rendering but theres no fog, its a hell of alot crisper than wow and its nice and bright. you can see what your doing and your toon looks awesome. gear looks more realistic than wow and definately alot better which will be alot more rewarding as its an rpg

mentioned earlier was a lack of end game.. thats too bad but expected. its good having good endgame content to work towards.

is it smooth? what class are you if you play? whats good about the class? whats good about the game?

*Hazy or crappy visuals (some mmos are older then you are i imagine, eq 1 for instance is 13, you seem to be 3)

*Lack of a community (lul if you actually like wows community)

*Crappy tank class.. want to have a good tank to play with (the tank classes arent crappy, the people trying to dps with them just suck at tank)

*Crappy rolling system (you mean the random dice rolls for loot?  its the same in all games)

*To much walking (auto assault let you drive, but they killed it)

*Stupid looking helms - i want a cool helm (and shoulders) (your idea of cool is completely subjective, and seems to be in poor taste since you like wows community)

    *Lack of dungeons

*Crappy scripting and ridiculous agro circles (whiner, back in the old days the worst monsters out there could smell your fear a zone away, and they wouldnt stop chasing you!  not ever!  you had to hit a loading screen to another area to get away, and if the thing caught up to you before you loaded into the new area yould be dead!  and yes i mean if it killed you during the loading, you dead)

I'll try to reply to your OP, since I don't feel like posting a game review.

    1. There are no gender or race locked classes. Everybody can be anything they like. There are no advantages in getting a certain class to play a certain calling either.

    2. Graphics I posted my screenshots. I'll need to get me some new ones with my newer armor pieces. My class is cleric by the way, they are the ones wearing chain armor.

    3. Community is pretty strong at this point, but then again this is the first month the game is out. Everyone is eagerly awaiting to see how many people the game will retain after that month is over.

    4. Three callings have access to tank souls. Warriors have the most variety, but also clerics and rogues can tank as well.

    5. I don't understand what you mean with the rolling system.

    6. There is plenty of running around, especially at the beginning, unless you got a friend that can fund you a mount (no level requirements for first mount). The world as it is now is average in size, plus there are teleporting points in each zone. Overally I find it easy to go anywhere fast.

    7. Regarding helms, that's a personal preference so no comment.

    8. There are currently 10 group dungeons and 1 raid dungeon. The group dungeons vary in level range in normal mode, so you'll have an dungeon to join at your level range. Once you hit 50, you will be playing them at expert mode. Basically the same dungeons get expanded with additional bosses and the currnet bosses having additional mechanics.

    9. I don't know about scripting and under what context you're mentioning it. Aggro cicles were a bit of a pain up until a recent patch. Now things are ok (imo).

Well maybe saying a bit better than wow was being a tiny bit harsh lol..

Ill just leave it as.. yes it looks better than wow but its nothing amazing. Character models as average really.. enviroments do look a lot better tho, but good looking enviroments are easy these days.

This little one is from Xsyon that has sub par graphics for sure but even the enviroments can look really nice.. any getting off topic..

Just alittle thingy that happened to me last night ...

Had a crazy pvp session so I wanted to chill a bit. As the Ausies would say ... I went on a walkabout.

After roaming around a while enjoying the scenery, I noticed a mountain range in the distance.

What the hell, lets try to climb it.

It took me a while and some failed attempts later I reached the top ...

In a corner I spot a small dirt uprising.

I click it ... bam! Nice purple for my adventuring troubles.

Equipped it, went back to the warfronts on a killing spree with a giant grin on my face.

and i will tell you why not to buy it. Typical raiload zones with 1,2,3,4,5,tab autoatack fighting. With kill x of y quests, bring me x droped by y with z chance to drop. ADvertised soul system isnt much you cant mix everything as advertised.

    Read the Rift general forums.

The forums look a lot like the forums of any other MMO.

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

Of course they do. Forums are for people to go and vend their frustration and whine these days. If I was actually believing half of the things said in similar forums of other games, I would have quit 10 times over. Forum whining is indicative of some things, certainly not real problems most of the time.

I am in the same boat as the Original Poster.I

play Rift, but I would say Rift is more like a WoW sub, not a WoW replacment. If you play Rift, I suggest pushing for 25, than from there, taking your time not to rush. You should get at least a few months of gameplay if you dont rush.

Be ready to walk a lot in Rift ,the world is full of npcs which aggro you very easy and often dismount you ,not to speak of the exposed debuff which makes you get a lot more damage if you try to run through the monsters. Some people like this but I dislike it and find it annoying.Probably they put this debuff in game to make exploring harder and slower so you don't see how much smaller is telara compared to azeroth or middle earth.Beside this,i think it depends on what you expect from a mmo,if all you want from it is in that list, you probably could enjoy rift (not sure about dungeons since I dislike them so i didn't tried any in rift beta)

    hahaha! Indeed, stay away!

I wouldn't do that to you man.

Haha, I kid I kid. But seriously, Rift has its issues just like every other game. Umm...what can I say, if you are looking for a diversion and you like the MMO formula and just want a different world, by all means there's nothing wrong with Rift. It runs well. I was just remarking the other day how there have been no major issues like servers repeatedly crashing or major extended lag or rubberbanding. No game breaking bugs that I have seen. But if you are looking for something "different" that breaks the mold, that's not Rift, at least in my opinion. Who knows, it may have more depth in the future when more content is added and so forth, but for now I hate to say,  it's pretty generic and shallow. The upside to that, however, is that there is virtually no learning curve, you can just install and go because you will be familiar with the system if you played WoW, Warhammer, Aion, etc.

But I strongly advise you to stay away from the forums, unless you are completely immune to mass amounts of complaining. Especially today, it's a virtual viper's nest and the tension on the forums is just really unbelievable.

Actually, you can mix everything as advertised, if you know how to. Just because you sucks at creating builds don't mean your statement is true.
