The gamers hangover

So, I get a weekend off with no grandkids, no 'ol lady to interupt and turn-off the cell phone for two days of my favorite past-time...Pc games. Saturday morn finds me light headed and laughing at the screen while cursing at the evils within the game. Early Sunday morn finds my little room a mess with dishes, empty coke cans and food particles all over the floor. That evening the 'ol lady returns to find me barely able to keep my eyes open, incoherant, drooling on my keyboard while speaking a language that is unfimilar to her. She searchs the room for bottles of alcohol or/and the possibility of other such substance that would leave me in such a state of mind. As Monday morning rolls around, I ask her to call-in sick to work for me as it will take at least a day to recover.

Anyone else experience such an event...or am I the only one who has had the gaming hangover?

Yeah been there done that its actually pretty funny how some gamers feel that way playing for a couple days straight well if you get the hangover effect without the smoke filled bars and big tab from drinks i think its a good time. :-)

You're doing it wrong. Drink beer while you play games to avoid the hangover. They will cancel each other out.

Seems like you had a pretty good time if you ask me. I haven't experienced this personally, maybe because I stay away from alcohol as a choice in life, don't think I'm missing out on much really :)

The gaming hangover you say, sounds like a bit of an oddity.

I personally believe it's possible to have a gaming hangover without any alcohol in the picture though =P

I've done the exact same thing.

All friends are out of town or are doing "couple" things, etc. Girlfriend has a yoga workshop. I find I have the ENTIRE weekend to myself.

    Sunday night is NOT pretty.

it's an invalid argument. you stood up for 2 days and happened to be playing games in them. You got the hangover from staying up not from playing games.

I got the Student's hangover during Finals week one year. true story. I had finals spcaed 5-6 hours apart across 3 days.  Before I started drinking. Then i got the real deal.

I did not know an argument was made...whats your point

There is a country song in there I'm sure.

I've had crazy gaming sessions like that. My gf enables me way too much.

Negative spin on gaming, probably.  Gaming gets a bad rap in the press and likely coining a phrase like "gaming hangover" got him a bit defensive, but I could see how that could be weaponized in a war of words by policitians and angry parents.

Nevertheless, yes, I've overindulged in gaming (as well as reading, watching movies, partying with friends, playing hockey, mostly working really) and paid the price later on.  All enjoyable (even the work thing, if it yields progress)

What you describe is almost a typical day for me.    Except that my lady doesn't mind me playing.    I have suggested to her putting a small fridge next to the computer desk and a urinal under it but no go... :(

Also, don't feel bad.   With practice, you can learn to do this without the hangover.  :)

You ruined the number one rule of not sleeping, eat more and drink more water.    If you'd have properly maintained yourself you probably could have gone for a couple more days and had fewwer ill effects.

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

     what he said.

I was trying to contain this before it erupts into the typical mess misinformation and people misinterpreting people misinterpreting people lead to since your original post was already slightly misleading.

"gamers hangover" suggests the game is to be blamed. even if you didnt mention this, its still suggested. Yet your symptoms were not caused by the game but by lack of sleep. Hence sleep deprivation is the culpit.

Nothing to contain but a enjoyable weekend, your concept of blaming games reminds me of the parents who blame McD's toys in happy meals for causing their kids to act out.  My point had no political agenda,   and was only met to relate a weekend that I perfer over other...activities.  Which is why I asked if anyone else had similar experiences in order to find out if the rest of the gaming community is off into gaming as much as I am.
