i bought AION a few days ago and was hopeing for some good fun and action. What i got is pure boredom, i couldnt play any character above level 19 without feeling burnedout.
I managed to get my Chanter to 19 and everything became slower and slower i even lost the will to reach 20 a few kills before ding. Playing the Chanter it feels like hard work and not like fun
My Spiritmaster is level 17 and the Pets keep getting worse and worse, the Earth pet is a pure joke and so is the water pet. The only pet that is ok is the Fire pet and that only with this 2000DP buff. This class started strong meanwhile i have to cast 6-7 times for one kill and i am a Mana potion addict.
Chanter,Spiritmaster, Cleric and maybe Ranger seem to be the only somehow working Solo classes.
All other classes either suffer from endless downtime or like Templars they dont do any DPS and need forever to kill something.
This game has no Mounts, Flying is restricted everywhere, its a joke. You have to move to the same quest area over and over, crawling and crawling through the zone. Why arent there any Mounts in this game ??????
NCSoft created AION right ? Why didnt they take some elements of City of Heroes ? Flying ? Speed ? Jumping ?? nothing of all that.
The Euro servers are mostly empty too..... no wonder... this game suffers from boredom, only Allods is worse.
AION is so boring i wish i havent payed 19.99 Euro for it and took CoX Rogue Island instead...............................
This game is the biggest dissapointment and waste of my money in a long time.
I just hope RIFT is better than AION...

Get gear noob. There isn't any other way to go about it If you're not willing to commit then don't expect any prizes. Once you gear one character it's all down hill from there.

Been a while since I played Aion but my two classes were Chanter and Spiritmaster. I didn't have trouble soloing with either one of them in the teen levels. I definitely didn't use mana potions to solo. Spiritmaster is a dot class and a pet class. If you expect to be able to nuke enemies to death, it will use more mana and you will have more downtime; sorc would be better if that's your style of play. SMs have to snare and kite a little.
I can agree that it does get a bid boring through the late teens. But once you get over that 20 hump, get some of the better abilities; get into Abyss etc the game picks up a bit. However, I disagree about templar’s damage. Even while using a shield, you should have zero downtime and do a lot of DMG. Played correctly and using your shield abilities you should be able to mow through mobs, and stunning them in the process reducing your dmg intake.
As for the “get gear comments” posted above me; easier said then done.
I recently rolled a new character, Ely on Israphel. I was not able to buy any new gear at 14+.
My Templar is 18 still wearing lvl 10 stuff. Why? Because even lvl 14 gear is 150k a piece for whites and 200-500k for greens. I hadn’t spent a single kinah outside of my skill books and looted everything I could to sell and while I have about 500k, I was able to upgrade 2 items, draining all 500k. While this amount of kinah is nothing if you have a 55, or hell anything above 30 it’s a very large amount of kinah to any new player. The market is so ruined and inflated that new players are severely handicapped when it comes to upgrading their gear as they level.
Am sorry to hear you had a bad experience returing to aion. The server i am on telemachus is very busy, through out all levels.
If you do like the though of the game but found no social aspect at lower lvl's, please feel free to create a character on telemachus and I will try to make your stay more enjoyable up to the higher lvls with helping you out and so on.
I found the path to max lvl enjoyable but some do not. And its a shame because the fun really does start at 45+. And now with the new kinah drop rate and item drop rate its even easier to gear up. Ofc the game has its down side, but what mmo does not.
Anyways /w Fhaze the assassin on telemachus
I played AION at launch and was one of the first 50's on my server.. Game was extremley fun for me from 1-50.. But that was probably because everything felt so "new" and everyone was in newbie gear grinding away for XP.. HUGE population at the time too, was a lot of fun.. I imagine now the starting zones are all deserted though, and it's no fun doing all the group quests (theres actually lots of em earlie on in AION) all by you're self.. The only class that'd be able to do that is possibley a super twinked out cleric..
I played a cleric at launch and it was the most OP class.. You can kite with a cleric + heal, which makes soloing mobs super easy.. Not to mention clerics get some kick ass stigma's later on for pvp.. But the game is super gear dependant, if you went into it this late thinking you'd end up super godly by lvl 20 then you're mistaken.. You won't be on par with any of the serious pvpers until you are lv 55 and have FULL miragents.. This could take you almost half a year - the end of you're lifetime as Miragents is based on RNG.. That is why i left.
It's a fun game, but honestly you'd prolly be better of purchaseing Rift atm because it's a newer game, it has a way bigger population, its fantasy-based (assumeing you like fantasy MMO's as you bought AION), and really it's a lot of fun.. Or you could build a time machine and experience AION at launch, which was awsome too
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
Well, first of all Aion is a different game than city of heroes. I would shudder to think if all games adopted the same "everything" that the "easier" games have.
It takes longer than City of Heroes to level. For some it's an interminable amount of time and for others (such as myself) it's a bit speedy.
It sounds to me that you didn't research the game.
No mounts and controlled flight (try gliding by the way) was a conscious decision on the dev's part.
If it's not for you then it's not for you, that's fair. But I think you should do a bit of research and save time if not money. Same with Rift, please research before you get into it if you are concerned that you might waste time or money.

A player should never be put off by any mmo with the thoughts of other have been playing it longer, or its not new.
Sometimes it can be nicer due the fact your not hunting the same mob as everyone else.
You are correct in saying it would take awhile to match the top pvpers, but hay, thats the way it is.
( and yes miragent legs with RMT = big rage. bad times)
Aion was really fun when it first launched. rifting was awesome and new, the lower level questing was fun, the flying was very cool, even the abyss was a blast.
then they implemented level 30 gold gear.......and it all went to hell.
nothing but twinks running arround ganking pretty much everyone even 10 levels higher then them.
gear disparity in this game it's just insane. skill has almost nothing to do with pvp in this game, it's pretty much all gear. those that grind the most get the best gear and completely own everyone else. this only gets worse at end level.
I have seen less geared but better players beat better geared ppl in pvp. If you dont like being killed in solo ( not you personally jakstripper) in games and belive you need to win every fight (i am reading the same stuff about rift) then no you wont like it. The better fun is in group pvp with good tactics. Now ofc if there is a group with full lvl 55 gold pvp gear and a group with full green noob, then its a different story, same in any pvp game. But if your gear is half decent and you play well, then your group can win,
All of these complaints seem to be about mechanics and which class you can play solo to "win the game". You're completely and totally missing the point of MMO*RPG*s if that's the only way you view the game world.
In your 19 levels did you ever talk to anyone or try anything other than combat?
i agree aion is rather bland and i felt a great burnout on it not terrible mind you but not great either. I started the game when it was in beta i liked it then but then the gold sellers which got fixed but the amounts with which even travel can be a pain when you need to get around. And its slow even with wings my run is the slowest ive ever seen let me hit my run button oh wait im walking now even slower so my run was already on hmm crazy. As for the templar mine is lvl 30 and honestly it can be very slow to damage when solo i dont know many ppl and its just short of a ghost town and that was just last week when i tried the reactivation literally bored before i got 3 steps in the game. I do like that its not so laggy and doesnt crash my computer anymore but honestly i may still play every now and then but its not a major game i want to sit down and grind at. It does feel like work at times and really thats not what i want when i get off my rl job i just want to relax and have some fun.
pls just stop.
have you even played Aion in the last year?
have you been 2 shot ,wile questing, by a fully gold armored sorc or assasin that's 10 levels lower then you over and over and over? i'v seen a fully gold armored assasins kill a full party of 6 people just because more then half the spell/skills would be resisted for us due to gear disparity. there was absolutely no skill involved, just huge damage spikes for him and a whole lot of resists for us. pls dont give me that skill > gear crap, it absolutely untrue and one of the biggest problems in Aion especially at lower levels.
specifically in Aion where you are forced to quest in open pvp zones where anyone from level 20 or 45 can come and farm you for Abyss points, gear disparity is insanely obvious.
Then yes Aion is not for you. You need to put in a the effort to reap the rewards. Sounds like you need one of the newer games that hands things out a little easier for that quick fun after work. MMOrpg are not quick fun, they are designed for you to level your character over the course of many months. If someone desides to grind that out in 2 weeks then more power to them.
All the comments seem to be shallow stabs that have been heard before on other games. its just Aion is in the firing line and i am taking it personally because i like it i guess
DAOC wasn't until Atlantis and that is what many regard to be the greatest PVP game ever. Gear should make a small difference and still be something to strive for but AION got this hopelessly wrong there is a very slim chance a group of casual players no matter how skilled can beat facerolling no lifes in there +10 50 AP gear and this will only get worse 2.5 when 55 eternal AP is introduced.
These are your options when you hit that point.
1. Grind for fenri's for what is months for a casual player and then pray to the RNG gods, to still be worse off than AP geared people.
2. Grind for months longer than fenri's would take to get your AP.
3. Grind Besh etc for months for the post fenri's PVE set that isnt as good as fenris oh and spend 20m ish in the process.
4. Craft a set of Balaur armour again months and months to get the mats again not as good as AP.
5. Give up on PVP altogether and be left with what is a very shallow PVE game where you will still get rifted on by those no lifes.
6. Quit and face it NCSoft screwed the pooch badly by putting so much requirement to gear in what is supposedly a PVP game.
I took option 6 I took another look during this reactivation week and didnt instantly log out as I would with other MMO's I still love aspects of it I then took 1 look at my pathetic 2k AP, 1 look at the AP costs of decent AP armour and then saw that I only had 7 of the 30 pandamonium tokens for the 3rd fenri's piece and still had the HOHM part to come.
Being ganked in the Abyss didnt bother me, being rifted on didnt bother me hell its that rush I bought the game for.
I'm all for working for better gear but with a family and perhaps 2 hours a night to play I simply cant be bothered with spending the next year of dullness just to compete in the one thing I originally bought the game for.
By my figures It would take me a month just to finish up stage 3 of fenri's with 1 lannok run a day gods of PUG permitting. Stage 4 could take me anywhere from 1-4 month depending on RNG and I honestly couldnt tell you what stage 5 involves I've long forgotten. So 3-5 month on top of what was already a 7 month investment by a casual player just to be able to compete.
On another note I enjoyed the Aion journey so once I have finished DA2 and DIvinity 2 then I may well resub and start a Gladiator and take that through till you hit that wall.
A tiny bit of research would've gone a long way for you to avoid the grindfest that is Aion. If 8/10 people are telling you the game is grindy/boring and you go ahead and purchase it anyway to give it a chance, well... call it a sunk cost and leave it at that. NCsoft won't be changing the game to make it more accommodating cause for the most part they just mirror what is released in Aion Korea, just like Lineage 2.
not shallow stabs shallow would be me not saying anythihg good about aion it looks great but lacks depth and fyi im still in the game because my cousin is bored. i just experienced my first raid last night and well it was no suprise that the group failed miserably not coordinated everyone bickering noone cares to help each other out just everyone out for themselves
I think you picked it up at the wrong time. haha.
You picked up a game that is on the downward spiral.
The best solution to this game to me would be to make it F2P in NA/EU.
Unless they plan on some major patch to change a lot of the issues. I don't know.
**Edit** on the post a few posts above. I don't understand what you are talking about on 'slow travel'. I think it's the smallest world of any MMO I've played and you can get just about anywhere in the game in under 3 minutes. To me, this discredits your post and/or MMOs are NOT for you. Stick to games that have no exploration and such....
But you are right on one thing. This is a game that's kind of weird. The leveling is very soloish or forces you to solo but yet the best parts of the game require you to group. PvP without grouping was a huge no-no. The incredible balance in PvP came with being in group. If you wanted to solo pvp, you'd probably be picked off by sorcs or skilled assassins easy. I think before the rifting restrictions, they intended the game to be group oriented. The group pvp was probably best I've seen. Some fights lasting minutes with skilled players. That's a huge problem also with westernization, people here don't know how to group participate in anything. All they know is how to insult and call you noob and rage quit.
I'd probably enjoy myself 10000x better playing this game if I spoke Korean and played on their servers instead.
i loved how before the game released they were all like "YOU'VE GOT WINGS AND YOU CAN FLY!" and then it's just
boring and lame kiting that just outright sucks.
If you ever look at the first trailer of the game. About 60% of what you see was never put in the game. You see climbing, crazy caverns and such, you see a huge giant colossus come out of ground with whole bunch of players flying to fight it. And on top of that, that horrible girl "Lani Blazier" that was probably just in videos to get males to come check out the game seemingly had no clue about the game she was promoting. When you watch those old videos of her talking about the game, she was doing exactly what you said. "When I look up there is the other world of players and you can fly" crap. it was kind of humiliating to just watch it. She was a ditz... Then you get in game and you don't see any of the things the videos showed. Why? Because they were all cinamatics or rendered outside of the game.
This is the reason I NEVER EVER take a video from NCSoft and take it for face value. They promote their stuff with more than what it really has. They even doing it to GW2 somewhat. Not saying GW2 will be bad, I am actually looking forward to the game myself but don't get your hopes up high watching the trailers is all I'm saying.
Anyone that has played Aion, watch this original trailer and you'll laugh your arse off. What's worse, the videos didn't stop there, even after the game was released in Korea, they released more trailers for the NA with visuals of content that never made it to the game, ever.
Anyways, about leveling, if you don't do potion and some other crafting (weapon or armor) then it will be a lot harder to levelup solo. Personally I had little trouble getting to lvl 40 on Sorc then Templar.
About server being empty, check for other ones, check forums, but probably there aren't THAT many players playing Aion in general. I would only return to check Aion 2.6 with my free month from ExSteel, so not any time soon. :P
Cheers.
We are going to have to act, if we want to live in a different world.
Actually, yes, colossus was in that trailer. But there was yet another trailer. (Link is Here.) Sadly this is the trailer I saw first to get me to check out more into Aion. This is yet another very LULZ trailer cause you see Elyos attacking the dredgion which hahahahaha, anyone that played the game knows you can't do and then shortly after that you see this huge colossus coming out of the ground. Like scary huge compared to the vision trailer.
I mean even though I played the game and know what it really entails, watching these trailers still give me goosebumps in a sense that if they had delivered just like these trailers suggested, I'd probably be a addict to this day on the game.
And that's another thing, that vision trailer was a huge upset in that it was just a trailer to tease you into holding out for nothing. Cause if they actually tried to do what they showed in Visions, I probably would have also stayed on the game. But it never even was partially realized. The only thing they realized was the pets. The housing, the ground mounts, etc. all that never saw light of day.
(The colossus they showed never was even in any cutscene in the game either.)
Basically, NCSoft burned me into every trusting another trailer of theirs cause that's all it did was false advertise and leave empty promises.
Nods, Aion was a big letdown. The zones and combat feel mechanical. The toons are nice, the animations are nice, they just don't flow. The UI doesn't help, being the typical functional yet dry UI common to Eastern games.
Flying limits, bad, no swimming, bad. In other news SW:TOR also has no swimming so... guessing EA hasn't been paying attention to the fallout from FFXIV or Aion.
if you thought Aion was boring you're in for a very rude wake up call when you buy Rift. Aion is pretty boring but Rift plays like it was designed for a 5 year old kid. imagine WoW but easier & with worse pvp, that's Rift.
I had fun in Aion when I was in China server. They grouped a whole lot more than in the states. They also PvP'd a whole lot more too and fought over bosses.
See in the states, there is some thing going around where if a group tags a boss first, it's theirs. Or if they show up for it first, it's theirs. In China, that wasn't the case. The way Aion worked, if you did 51% of the dmg, the loot went to that group. And you know, that was a very exciting part of the game. We'd not only have the other faction fighting over something, you were fighting with your own faction on getting bosses down. There was times we kited the boss away from a guild that was downing a boss to steal the kill. And after it was done, we all laughed about it with each other and congradulated the other team. It was "competitive" gaming. Here it's all little kids fighting and making stupid rules instead of playing by the games rules. And if you don't follow those rules, they try to flame you or get you hated in the community. It's just two total different worlds.
This game is far from a WoW clone like Rift is. It had it's good points and they failed at westernizing the game. Quite frankly, I wish they never tried to. The game was better before the changes even though it lacked a bit in content.
But Rift.... that's a different ball of wax. I actually got bored of Rift quick. Specially with the combat. The zone battles were fun on PvP servers but that's about where it ended with me. I couldn't get past the slow GCD and very cadenced feel. Aion least had moves that were big on slightly longer CDs and weaker quicker moves on much lower CDs and had combination moves that in many cases did seem together well. You could even mix and match the combos for different outcome. Like for chanter instead of doing the last move of a chain1 combo (which was on a 10% chance to proc), I quickly would start the chain 2 combo after the first 2 moves of the first combo making a 7 move combo or so without proc'd moves. There was a potential for this system if they had further developed it but instead seemed like they just gave up on the game mechanics and instead just decided to just make instances for the western audience. And down down down it went.
