and bought the game.

Downloading as we speak.

I wanted to play a mmo.

One that had pvp. I was turned away for a time seeing how the pvp was imbalanced. I tossed around the idea of playing DAOC again, and reinstalled WAR and did the free trial but, ultimately there werent enough players active in WAR to keep me going. And the classes I want to play arent gimped in PvP so...tough titty for casters(for now, I am sure it will be addressed)

Shitty games with a active population, sadly, are better than great games with a near dead pop. Its a shame too cause there are so many things great about WARhammerOnline.

Not to mention I played WAR during beta and at release and my class of choice was gimp then. I do my research and find out, GUESS WHAT--- ITS STILL GIMP lol... inexcusable. The class was Shadow Warrior if you must know.

Now to pick a server. See you in game!

Hah i caved in recently too.. Been having a good time.. But then again i didn't play WoW for "years" on end and have just gotten out of a 6month EvE-scapade, so everything feels real new and refreshing for me.. Btw Braircliff is a good server if you're looking for PvP + High population ^_^

Briarcliff seems ok be careful what kind of drama is on server already.  (Deepstrike etc)

Keenblade seems to be Drama free at times that I play.

Not to get off-topic, but yeah Warhammer is so great and so bad at the same time.  I feel like I've been in a MMO drought for so. very. long.  I want something to come along and save me but everything out here is just do dreck.  Rift is very average in my opinion.  I feel ya on the caving in though for real.  I did the same but I didn't even make it to the end of the free month.

Do hope you enjoy it.  I've been playing for about two weeks and i'm enjoying it a lot.  The servers are pretty packed so you'll almost always find a group and the que's are within minutes.

For clarity, I say I was weak because I played RIFTS beta and personally I was not blown away. But its an active game and who knows, pvp might be decent.

And about WAR, I agree.  So great and so bad.

The Ambience, the feel I get when I go to a city like Altdorf, its great. The sounds are spot on. Its like a real place. Beggars and pirate types, slumy areas and fancy areas. Its just real. It works.

But when I talk in a local channel and no one responds....

or when I wait forever for a BG

or when I see the same broke classes that were broke at release and the same gripes, that I saw at release

and leveling is the hardest thing for me. Its confusing. All these different areas. I think thats why I quit the first time. I played up until about 26 on my Bright Wizard and then it was tough finding people to do anything with. Its like 26 was the wall.

Anyways enough about that, gotta run off to work.

Just un-subbed from WoW after a 6 year run, not going to subcribe to this game just yet however. Posts like this are encouraging though. The game seems like it's head and shoulders above the experience I had with warhammer (think I put in a grand total of 3 weeks before I decided I'd to not go beyond the grace period).

I read a lot of posts stating this is the game warhammer should have been.

Maybe a few more weaks and I too shall buckle and give Rift a go :)

Be aware of a couple of world pvp mechanics in this game.

    1) Invasions: Each faction will spawn invasion npcs that will attempt to attack an enemy hub. You can support them and help take down the hub, and set up your own hub (not sure if it offers quest but..._

    2) Ancient Wardstones: Currently a little clunky but basically every contested zone has like 12 neutral wardstones that offer a daily when you capture them. If your faction controls every Ancient Wardstone, a major zone wide event starts assuming that it hasn't been triggered in the last 24 hours. Problem is that to capture a wardstone you need a 'planar charge', of which you can only carry 3 and you gain them by closing rifts. So you need a well coordinated raid to capture all the wardstones at once.

There may be more but I'm only level 33 on my main, been taking it easy and playing it slowly

Haha tell me about it man.. Ended up waiting 10mins twice tonight.. Usually Braircliff is in and out and we didn't have a que last fri/sat, but maybe more people purchased the game this week idk.. Still, braircliff is a good server, pretty drama free considering its got some really hardcore pvp'ers in it.

I'am just now logging off myself.. Been playing for about 5hrs straight, shutting down major rifts and doing warfronts... Had a blast, but now my energy drink is empty and my bud is rapidly disapearing into smoke n ashes.. So, time for bed lol.

Yeah finally got in last night

    toons name Enderzshadow

started with a Marksman....then I picked Saboteur, and liked it so much I put most of my points into Sabo. Its fun blowing stuff up at range.

Made it to lvl 6 (couldnt play long, work in the morn)

And got into a small guild with a questionable name :P   "Fairy Tale"....

Only thing I find tough in game at the moment, the respawns. I can work towards a target, and before the target is dead, adds on respawning on top of me. More than one add, and its risky---if there are two adds, Im screwed.

I didn't make it past the free trial either...it just feels to similar to a lot of other games I played. I guess WoW did when it came out but at the time it was a good thing and now I feel like I am dieing for something new...really hope Arche Age saves us :p Hope you enjoy Rift though I know tons of people who love it.

  • caremuchlesscaremuchless Member Posts: 603

I dont think its groundbreaking either. I would say its a aimed a little more towards an older audience. I dont say that meaning its "MATURE" content, just less Cartoony Kiddie WoWish. (btw I dont hate WoW)

Maybe its my attitude towards the game. It doesnt blow me away 24/7 but I am taking the scenic route, enjoying myself as I go, playing for me.

It is made rather well. Everything works and the stuff that goesnt work great, the devs are looking into.

The devs, thats a real selling point.  I've never been treated as a player, with as much respect as I feel I have been treated by the devs in this game. When Patches release, they explain like, if I was explaining something to a friend, "Hey we know you dont like how this is working, this is because of this bug, we did that, and we are monitoring this etc etc"

Other devs I have seen either didnt tell you anything or if they did it was along the lines of "Changed such and such stat. Lowered this stat." They didnt say why, they just did it, as if to say "We did it, dont like it? Leave then."

Hey OP i caved the same way.  Personally I couldn't stand the game during beta and wrote it off as another WAR/WoW clone.  I bought it about two weeks ago after getting further interested in the class system talk on the forums and have been having a blast.  Can't see myself putting the title down any time in the next few months.  Personally, I haven't had an experience like this before and just goes to show me to always keep an open mind.

Just have to take the time to second what you have said here.  For me the devs have given me a lot of confidence in the title.  Roughly 3 raids launched in the first month and some aggressive patching.  Also the PAX interviews with Scott were heartening to hear as well.  It sounds as if they have the capacity to push out fun high quality content at a decent pace.

What's interesting is to read what Trion considers their target audience.

I'm a gamer and I enjoy Rift. I also enjoy Starcraft, Picaroon, L4D2 and Portal. I make no predictions on how long I'll actually play the game since I tend to jump around a lot, but my subscription isn't going to end at the end of March.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Im a WoW 5+ yearer, I cant see myself playing it any time soon after playing rift. While its the same there are many differance's that  i enjoy for the better. I always wanted a less cartoonish WoW MMO and this seems to be the fit for me.

Anyway, take your time don't rush meet new friends have fun. Don't be afraid to roll new class's to try new ones out, ya might find ya like one better.

    wellcome to RIFT !   ;)

I wasnt weak, but i did give in to a free 30 days of it. I won a copy of Rift from a survey i did, i thought it was ironic and funny but i hadnt played Rift since the 3 day events and i thought about selling it but i still havent found a game to hold me since i quit WoW. Im playing a ton of games right now and i enjoy them all, just havent found one to hold my attention for a really long time. :p So i decided to just play it.

Ive always said Rift is a beautiful game but i didnt wanna play it because it was too much like WoW. I think i finally see the audience that will buy into Rift tho and i think its cool. Not only do people that havent played these games wanna try it out, but people who quit WoW and think about returning to it but dont really want to but liked its gameplay could give Rift a shot.

Ive been bored of all the "WoW clones" myself but this is one thats worth paying for. Ive been bored of the WoW clones but ive also enjoyed them you know? Just the same old crap and all. I dont mean this as an insult but the way i think of Rift is "finally a clone thats worth paying for."

I have to apologize for some of the stuff ive said before during the beta because i feel so bad. Ive had a good break from WoW tho, 3-4 months or so i think, i dunno. Anyways so it was easier for me to have a more focused look at Rift itself rather than immediately be bored because of the similar game style.

Im still looking forward to other games like Tera and Firefall but i just felt like sharing my newer view on this game.

Rift is just a better version of Warhammer. Similar graphics, beeter performance, better quests, similar combat, better public quests, similar scenarios/warfronts.

War had some interesting classes and lore but that was about it. Rift is just a better game and has a better population. Plus if they screw over a soul in PvP you can switch; in Warhammer you are stuck in your gimp class for months.

Make games you want to play.

Welcome to RIFT. Careful you might actually like it. Addicting. Take your time experiment with new builds and meet new friends . I like to play with quest tracker turned off. This game could very well become my new home.
