Can anyone give me a detailed experience of life on a PvP server?

I have yet to make a character on a PvP server yet.  I am still currently a little unsure about exactly what the rules are.  As I understand it so far it seems that you can attack other players in your faction as well as players on the opposite faction.  Is that correct?  How does it work and how different on a normal basis are the pvp servers from a regular server?

It's really just like any other server, except you get ganked by 50's if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The only bad experience I've had so far would of been when I stepped out the gate to a open pvp area at level 20 and got murderfied by 4 level 50 rogues...  kinda tacky if you ask me.. but what else is there to do when you hit 50 in 3 days.

Unless you plan on ganking or getting ganked, pve servers supply enough pvp to keep me happy without the stress during pve leveling.

Also, pvp servers tend to have to worst communities I've ever seen. Try faeblight pve/rp.. great community and healthy population.

Ok, Rift PvP servers are similar to WoW PvP servers in that there are two player factions (Defiant and Guardian) and once you leave the starter areas you are prone to attack pretty much anywhere.

That's where the similarities end. The big difference is the dynamic content aspect, i.e. rifts and invasions.  These events/mobs are a threat to BOTH factions, they will kill everthing, Defiant, Guardian, creatures, NPCs, critters...you name it.

As a result you will regularly see both factions working together to defeat them, once the threat has been neutralized players are faced with an "ok, now what" moment. Sometimes a full scale PvP battle will burst out on the spot, other times players will /wave and go their separate ways.

Also, the two factions can speak to one another openly which provides another form of entertainement all together.

There is also a mechanic to set up your own faction "footholds" complete with NPCs allowing you to create PvP content yourself as the opposing players are awarded "favor" points for destroying the other faction's footholds.

    Fun stuff!!

I'm level 36 on my cleric and so far, there's not much difference than a PvE server. A couple of times I've attacked people because I could (and got my butt handed to me) and a couple times I've been attacked and been killed or I killed the person attacking after also killing the mob I was working on (got my spec worked out well I think).

It adds a little bit of spice, but on the whole, not a lot different than a PvE server. This is supposed to change near the higher levels when you and the opposing faction are running around in the same areas with literally the same quests.

I'm looking forward to setting up footholds in opposing faction territory. That seems interesting but I haven't really seen a whole lot of that yet.

I have played games that were FFA PvP, but in the time I played WoW, I never rolled on a PvP server. I think I'm going to stick to the PvP servers from here on out.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
