Is there a monk in the house?

ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

Ok, I seriously wanna talk to people that know about the monk class in EQ II. I love my monk in EQ I, one of the funnest classes in EQ I besides Necro to me and I was wondering how monks are in EQ II? If the monks don't seem promsing I may go with a healer class to start. Do they have moves like EQ 1? Are they as dynamic "appearing"? Are they as fun and have things like feign, were they redesigned?

I have heard little about the dynamics of the characters once you get past 20 other then some comments about warriors and tanking. I picked up the DVD today and want to make a new toon tonite, so if anyone has any input on if I should stick with a monk please let me know.

You have got to be kidding me. As many people that could quickly spew out all sorts of facts about EQ II whenever the word WoW comes into a thread and are there instantly to start flammage on said topic and defend EQ and now a new player wants some info and not a single person knows anything about a monk or even the 2 class choices before it that actually wants to HELP a player?

Well if a kind person does decide to post and give me alittle info I shall really appreciate it. I started my monk and my EQ 2 subscription last night but for now I will keep my opinion on it silent.

i think they have alot of the same skills, but the feign death and stuff, i dont think will be as useful. but i have seen them in combat using those sticks (kali sticks?) and it looks sweet! well, good luck with it and if you want a list of thier skills go to here and click the combat arts tab.

does it? Sweet, I think thats gonna be the first route I go. I started on the Lavastorm server last night, I took a green server due to all the technical problems that I have read happening to servers that are overcrowded or full. Atm I am on the refugee island, just finished the goblin runner quest and got boots.

I play a level 20 dwarf monk, and i also played a monk in EQ1.

In EQ2 the monk is a tank and is able to tank mobs! We have taunt and ae taunt, but can only use light armor, so we rely on not getting hit. Monks have been promised an upgrade in next big patch so we dont have to use a buckler anymore, but get defence as if we use one. ::::02:: I have heard that there are problems with monks tanking in higher levels, so I hope this get fixed in the big patch.

Monks are not really a dps class but can do decent dps. Nothing compared to wizards or scouts etc.

The animations is really cool, specially with a bo stick.

Yes we get feign death, but its only for going afk ::::02:: there is no real splitting of mobs like in EQ1.

Thank you very much for the info. And I am amped to get 20 so I can be official and see how they are for myself. I basically remade my EQ 1 monk for EQ 2.

From what I am see'ing, any race can be any class, is that correct?

Yes any race can be any class, so go ahead and make a gnome monk or ogre bruiser (evil side monk)::::39::

Sorry missed it or something dunno.

I am a 39 guardian but have grouped with many monks and one of my online friend is a 37 monk.

Basically a monk is a ok tank at earlier levels but really post 30 you would not want to tank because your tanking depends on your chances of evading(which is random) so you can have a good spell of evading  well  but when you get hit by say a boss mob you can go from 100% to 10% in one hit.

So I would not pick the monk for tanking abilities.

A monk has FD like old EQ and of course this makes them the number 1 choice for pulling .

Monks are good dps(dmg dealers) also.

Basically an all round nice class. In a standard group you would probably tank a bit in low 20s  then after that become a dps as well as an off tank if the warrior type/crusader type died or needs a mob off the healers.

But all monks i met seems happy with the class.

its sounding sweet, I never really had considered him for tanking. I didn't realize they somewhat gave them that role. Sounds like I will enjoy it then, thanx for filling me in folks.
