And again, this is font nearly identical to the font found in EVE (with the same size as the size of the default font on this forum).
(irrelevant text - just to see the font in full paragraph):
February was an eventful month in the outer regions. The first two weeks saw what can only be described as a total collapse of the IT Alliance bloc. The alliance was seen to reduce and then altogether cease its attempts to fight back against the invading Deklein Coalition, resulting in the bulk of the Fountain region falling before the end of the 10, with the last station succumbing to attacking forces on the 15.The PLEX for Good: Japan drive has come to an end. During this drive players have donated a total of 2497 PLEX through 665 contracts and 19.6 billion ISK. In total, 2549 PLEX were collected, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross in the name of "EVE Online Community." For more information read CCP Fallout's latest Dev Blog.
0O0O0O0O0O - spot the difference between O and 0
This definetly does take longer to read, which increases the eye fixation time, thus hurting your eyes in the long run. (Note, this sentence is in Arial font, same size as the font of the text above).
they said in one of the fanfest videos that they are changing the font used by eve. You should be able to tell the difference between 0's and O's soon. No size changes yet from what I heard.
Granted, that thread is two years old, but it has responses as recent as 3/30/2011 so it is still active and never hurts to add a voice to the chorus if you consider this an issue. There are probably additional posts that could be responded to/supported, but that is the one that was linked from the CSM page on the issue (http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Eve_font_changes_-_Progress_requested_(CSM)).
Anyhow, apparently there are ways to change the font that aren't neccessarily 'CCP supported'. I haven't tried any of them so can't guarantee their effectiveness, but you could probably find the info via google if you were so inclined. I know that is not ideal, but if you like the game in general and that is the only thing holding you back, might be worth looking at.

I have 20/15 vision with a bit of astigmatism. I have a 36 inch flat screen tv/monitor that I play the game on and the resolution I have to have is 1768/992. I sit several feet back and even with 13 font size and spacing, I can't read anything but chat as it has its own way to increase size. I'm not sure I'm understanding people saying "get a bigger monitor" and "It's not that easy to increase font size in a game". That's bull and it is a lot easier than you think. There are loads of people that have a problem with the game because of this problem and many don't post responses on the forums; they just don't play after the trial.
The inability to lighten up doesn't make you hardcore.
Get glasses and stop complaining about an non-existant issue.
Seriously, if you set your LCD-screen to it's default resolution (i.e. throw away your old CRT and don't use inadequate resolutions to begin with) then the EvE font is just fine. If it's too small for you, then you can allready increase it's size from 10 to 11 or 12 pt.
And sorry to say, but why would you need to distinguish names of solar-systems anyway to tell your mates where you are? Simply link the damn syste-name into the chat so that everyone can click on it to trace a route instantly without any typing involved.
And what are you using your chat for, that you need to distinguish between all those characters? Use teamspeak/ventrilo/whatever to communicate with your mates.
The font-issue is basically totally irrelevant, as you don't need to read and write more then 10 words in chat a day to play the damn game. And that's the reason why there was no intent during all these years to fix it for the 20 players that complained in the forums.

Seriously, if you set your LCD-screen to it's default resolution default resolution means low graph quality(i.e. throw away your old CRT and don't use inadequate resolutions to begin with)
the bigger the resolution the smaller the font

eerhm not big enough? I think 10+ people already said that

OMG THATS ALL THAT IS NEEDED TO READ FROM EVE? SERIOUSLY? THINK DUDE...use your brain

Yeah why see who is calling you on the phone? Just ask him/her'Hey who the hell are you?".We don't need screens on cell phones!

After a little searching, it looks like this came up as part of the CSM 4.008: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/CSM_Meeting_Minutes_4.008
If you are a current player, you can also respond and support the post: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1019753&page=1

I've never had any problems in the last 6 years with the font in EvE for the exact reasons I mentioned there.
Get over it.
