I believe IGN just mixed up the annoucement from Trion ages ago than told us they had 1 million registered accounts on the forums. A boat load of websites after that started saying Rift has 1 million subscribers.
If trion announced 1 million users for its forums, I think they would announce 1 million subscribers/boxes sold. (Which they haven't).

It is announced that they had 1 million digital purchases and 300,000 box sales (:
1.2 million is NOT more than the 1.3 number that was mentioned. So why are you quotting Wiki and proving that i was right?
Warhammer and AOC were both bashed mercilessly and failed to live up to expectations, there is absolutely no comparison between those two games and Rift. I'm not a huge fan of the themepark genre of MMO's but Rift is clearly heads and shoulders above most of the post-WOW mmo's that have been released and the general attitude among the player base is positive, unlike those other two games.
I specifically didn't mention anything about AION. AION is a unique case, it's an Asian grindfest.. whether it sold 1 copy or a billion copies is irrelevant because it's already successful elsewhere.
It's funny how just because you dislike a game you fanboys can't just state that you dislike it and explain why and instead try to bash and lie about how successful it is or isn't. A few weeks ago you were all claiming it barely sold 400k copies. It's been out for a month and it's still in the top 10 (#7 currently) in terms of sales at Steam. The game is successful among the themepark crowd and will be around for a while, get a freaking clue.
Dude you are a sore loser.Do you honestly think if a game sold 1.2m copies in 12 days it will not sell another in 100k in 18 days.
Also even if WAR for some magical reason did not sell a single copy after 12 days it would still be 1.2m copies 100k and as i said about same.
"Wrong. Those three games did not sell more in the first month" - er only 3 games were mentioned WAR,AoC and aion so guess you did mention aion since u said three games and those are 3 mentioned.
"whether it sold 1 copy or a billion copies is irrelevant because it's already successful elsewhere." Really don't know what you mean by this success is success .Unless you think success in asia means nothing, which is weird then.
Secondly can you link where i mentioned rift sold 400k copies?also i play rift by the way.

Any further word on this? I checked last night and still nothing on trion's site. And while the article went up 4/1, it's also still up. I can believe it, I just want another source. Google news isn't coming up with anything and google itself is talking about the old 1 million 'site member' news.
<offtopic>
One of the most bizarre articles I read all day 4/1 happened to be true but I was sure I was getting trolled. A man stayed in his chair for 2 years, and became attatched to the chair as his skin grew into the fabric. I'll keep the nasty out of this but he *never* moved from the chair in 2 years.
He did die, and that's sad and I am NOT mocking him, but I'm sure it'll turn out that he's an mmo gamer which will lead to some related proposed legislation.

You know what was truly unbelievable about that story but was also true, the guy actually had a girlfriend! LOL
So there is no excuse for all you MMOers out there

I predicted 700K-1 Million copies sold at launch, then the subs will drop below 300K.
I still think it s going to happen.
This is probably the best themepark MMO released after WoW, but it is too linear and the leveling too fast (and for me too boring) to keep people subscribed for too long.
Anyway it will keep a decent numbers of subscriptions because thegame is solid.
Trion did a good job, Scott Hartsman is a good executive, not so much a game designer.
This is EQ2 on steroids, but it is still not good enough.
They need to merge servers or something quick. I don't get the impression that they have 1/4th of the subs they are claiming. My pvp battlegroup has been pairing me with the same people for weeks, and the server population on Tearfall is low. I can't speak for all of the other servers, but I've read the low pop complaint about at least a few servers on the forums.
nobody believes you.
14 posts is not enough to believe him haha

The only issue I have with this is that High =/= 10k, med =/= 5k and low =/= 2.5k. We don't know what those indicators mean. it could be 1.5k, 750 and 375 for all we know. So until we get solid numbers from Trion, it's anybody's guess.

If I had to guess Low would be like 500 or less, Medium 501-1250, high 1251-2000 and full 2000+ with queue or something like that. I know full is right around 2k for sure and that low has to be set very low considering there are times where every single server is medium.
That obviously is active players, the ratio of active to total accounts is a lot harder to nail down.

I've said this before. With no idea of the server capacity and--I'm sure--the ability to dynamically throttle on a per-server or across-the-board basis "high" "medium" and "low" mean little more than "My friend Matt sees a lot of people when he's playing.".
The advantage of doing this is precisely how the community has reacted, the game looks better when servers say medium, flickering to full.
Trion's a fine company but almost all companies are silent about this kind of stuff, especially after big-release flops from other companies. Remember those "12 million people" fellas? They're awfully quiet about hard numbers too.

Actually he went on a full server and counted the players and came up with the number which was 1900. Obviously not going to get a perfect result that way but 2k seems pretty reasonable.
Difficult to say how many subs they have I play on medium and high pop servers and they seam both to be very busy and not only just in the evenings . There are no low population servers at the moment in the eu . This is in month two so theres got to be significant retention and also possative word getting out about the game . Gut instinct tells me that RIFT proberbly has around 1/2 -2/3 rds of the amount of subs WoW had in it second month after release so over a million subs might not be that far off the mark . I'm sure we will hear from Trion in the next few months if that is the case but you certainly should'nt expect to hear anything this soon . Blizzard did'nt release sub numbers so soon after release either so nothing can be read either way by Trions silence as yet .

Every single mmo developer has the ability to track how many people log in every day, they could just put a script into the login server that just records the number of logins all day. It wouldn't be that hard to find the amount of active subscribers using estimates from that system. I'm disappointed when companies lie and include all of their inactive accounts in their boasts. Thankfully it's always painfully obvious when they are lying, so they aren't fooling anyone, they are just making themselves look like idiots and liars.
I'm tempted to reopen my account just to see if the world feels any more empty than it did a week ago. I think it usually takes more than a month for a subscriber base to plummet, but in this case, with the whole 1.1 world event fiasco, I don't know. They very well may have expediated things. Do they still have over a million subs?
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
