Possible Expansion pack in May

HashmanHashman Member Posts: 649

It seems that there is a very strong rumour going about which says that there will be an expansion pack released in May/Summer time with some islands available in previous Everquest as well.

Has anyone else heard this rumour?

I hope not, I would really prefer to enjoy the base world for about a year before things start getting shifted around every 4 months with expansion packs. That drove me insane in EQ 1.

Just like in EQ1. too much time spent digging into their player base's pockets and not enough on actually making the game fun, challenging and bug free.

In Sony's defense their actions were justified when the player base instead of protesting and not giving them good sales, kept plowing through the expansions hungry for more uber loot yet again.

If it's rumored to be May it probably won't release till September.

More content 11 or 12 months after release?

Yeah, that will suck. Why are they going to make me buy an expansion when I'm not done with all the content they released with?

Wahhh. I can't resist their marketing ploy, I'm going to buy it because it exists not because I'll play in the new zones. Mommy, wahhh. Someone change my diaper.

What in the hell are you talking about? I SAID a year would be good. And I have never bought an expansion before I was ready for it and have not gotten some all together, so who exactly was that directed too?

It was directed at you, who complained that the original content would get "shifted around" by an expansion pack "like in EQ1", when most expansion packs had little or no effect on older content other than to make it trivial for those who got loot from the new zones. Arguably PoP was the only expansion that had any effect on the old zones, adding the porting system.

Then you apparently insult the player-base in making an excuse for SOE, by implying that it was the players fault for buying the expansions to play in the new zones so they could get better gear. Which was essentially the biggest carrot in the entire game, which was essentially the reason most players wanted to keep up with it; to give them an opportunity to take down mobs of epic proportions to get their loot, improve their characters, and conquer huge gods and dragons with friends.

To imply that there is something wrong with the players for wanting more is stupid, and it strikes me as whiny.

I wouldnt mind an expansion, if it was PvP that would be great. From what I hear alot of the lvl 50s have nothing to do, there is no content at higher levels. I think one expansion is fine after the game has been released for at least 6 months. After that they should make all the expansion stuff free, or just make it a patch.

You can easily enjoy the base world for a year buy not buying any expansions for a year. Of course if you do that then there will be 3 expansions of EQ2 to buy.....

Freakin EQ1 got crazy with it. I simply stopped buying them. I hadn't even been to all of the base zones, let alone hardly any of luclin or PoP. Only good thing about all those expansions is that all the idiots went running to the new zones so it left all the really good old zones wide open and free.

Ahh, not idiots. More like sheep I guess. EQ bashers call us idiots enough, I need not turn on my own kind.

If they do (when they do rather) release an expansion, I severely hope it's something completely new. If they do some crap where "Oh...it turns out Kunark wasn't completely under water after all!" then fuck you Sony, I'm not buying it. Give me something NEW! I know it's a lot to ask, but it's not like you're spending your time doing updates on the millions of things that need to get fixed right now anyway.

EITHER FIX THE FISH OR TAKE THEM OUT OF THE GAME!

actually, as a Eq fan and one who got to level 52 and experianced all of the contientents for the most part fully, i would absolutly LOVE to see what has happened there.  I am very unintrested in new areas.  For i would rather figure out what has happened to the Faydark then go onto to a new continent completely.   They changed Antonica from what it looked like in Eq1, they busted it up and now it doesn't even resmble the old continent (well, the areas are all the old places, just changed drasticly, i'm still pissed that Rivervale had to be taken over and now is a dungeon imageimageimage), they could drasticly change the other ones too.  But as i said, i would be much more intrested in figuring out what has happened to all the old places i loved to go to so much.

ya that would be nice. I want to see Halas, I know that it attacked or something, but I still want to see it. There are so many areas that I would like to see from EQI. Crushbone especially.

You either don't play EQ or don't pay alot of attention. Everytime there was an expansion the playerbase AND the economy took huge shifts. Everyone was in the latest hot zone or in the new expansion, leaving the other places fairly useless and dead, bring your own group or sit there and solo.

An excuse for SOE? As if they would need an excuse. That was no excuse, that was justification for SOE's actions. I don't know what you are talking about other then wanting to get a shot in to flame someone, and a very poor shot at that. What I stated was 100% accurate, and I have no problem with the player base since I have been playing the game since launch and STILL play it.

I beleive my complaint was the haste in which the expansions all came out, NOT that they did come out. It made keeping up with your guild as a limited time player dam near impossible. I am sorry you don't like my opinions, but as I have said before and will again, that is your problem, not mine.

    Heres my 2 cents..
I agree that I would like to see them hold off making a new expansion it, would be nice to hit 50 before they they bump the levels or add new land. However its the upper crust that's going to expand the economy in EQ2 and I would hate for all of them to run out of things to do and stop playing. We need to see some gold flowing in the game. It's starting to happen now that people are getting there toons up there in levels. An expansion in May just gives them more to do and more ways to make money so it can filter down to the rest of us. Just like in EQ now the higher levels have so much money that they pay a perimum for low level harvested good ie spiderling silk, so the new players can get in and make money fast. I don't see buying a horse for at lvl 20 being a problem in a year it's damn near impossible now. I just won't buy the expansion till i see a need.

Reason been is the level 50s are few and sparse many in different guilds. The high end content is pretty much like EQ1 raids and since they are ahead of vast majority the simply can't form a viable raid yet.

It happened in the original EQ too .The first people to hit 50 could not do much because they too were spread out in many guilds  and there was no viable raids.

Once you get guilds which have a good portion of their players at 50 there will be high end raids .

Yes but raids should be the only thing they can do at lvl 50. Raids are pretty rare, they dont happen every single day.

The only thing that bothers me is that I hope it will not become common practice to charge for small content additions that you would, as MMO gamer, expect to be included in the monthly fee.

thats kinda where my thoughts were. When I read it, it did sound like a good idea. But I can see Sony getting out of hand with it too.

I love expansions ... I was one of those nuts - or idiots or sheep, as you prefer =) -  who lined up to zone over as soon as I could find time to play when an expansion opened =)  What can I say, lol, I love exploring new zones.  I love walking into places where no one has a clue what's going to happen.  Hell, I even enjoyed the original GOD ... took me a lot of arm-twisting, but I did manage to get some group crawls and even a couple raids going very early, when no one knew what to expect.  That was great fun.

  • ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

unfortunately I don't have the time to keep up. If I did I would probably as well. Expansions would be just fine to me if Sony would do them alittle different. But have a real good habit of making the new areas the only place anyone wants to be due to higher experience outputs in them and they have a real bad habit of tipping the current item scale. I guess that goes to the arguement of if there is nothing better to get why keep playing? To many that is the highlight. I can respect that, but for me, not being like that, it made everquest 1 very intolerable by the time LDoN came around.

YES YES, I know, I don't have to keep up, I can play the game the way it was originally designed regarless of what other people do. Wil I feel I am adding as much as everyone else in a group then, no. Will I be wanted back by players, maybe, maybe not because the other guy can last alot longer without burning up the clerics mana every 5 minutes. So ya I could play it that way, if I wanted to play alone.

I can't "keep up" either.   I guess I fall into the "casual player" category, as I can play about 2-3 hours a night, 4-5 nights a week.  It took me YEARS to get to the elementals in EQ - I just kept plugging along ... and we methodically built a large guild of casual and semi-casual players, so people would have similar expectations, similar issues, and be willing to help each other a lot.

That's precisely why I love expansions. 95% of the time by the time I get to do something most others already know how to do it.  My only shot at going into the unknown is when an expansion comes out.
