Warning: Scam alert

GravargGravarg Member UncommonPosts: 3,424

Just thought I'd let you all know of an e-mail I got in one of my non-main e-mail accounts.  I know it's a scam because it's not even the e-mail I use for my Rift account.  It looks very official, almost exactly like if Trion sent it themselves.  It says in it that I'm under investigation for selling my account, and what to do.  It says to click on a link in order to see the status of my account, and/or provide any proof that I didn't sell my account.  Thankfully I use Windows Live to check my e-mail and it brings up the actually link before you click on it.  The link shown in the email shows the Trion Worlds website, but when you hover over it, it shows that it goes to some website I've never heard of.

Moral of the story is (I guess).  Don't click on links, Go to the trion website itself if you get any e-mails like this one hehe.

A scam as old as the internet itself, but does a new thread really need to be created every time someone receives a scam email?

Not as old as the internet itself. When I was on the net back in 1991 I didn't get WoW phishing eMails :-D

I do agree with you that not for every phishing eMail a new thread should be made. But since this is the 1st time someone mentions phishing eMails for RIFT, I think OP is right to drop an extra warning about the phishing that's already started.
