Hey, just a bored F2P MMO player here. Please bare with me with the long text, you can skip "more details" but be advised I am a little more specific with those. Also I have listed my favorite and played MMO's, so I hope to not get suggestions of already listed games.
I'm currently going on and off with other genres (RTS, TPS) but I'm having serious RPG withdrawl. I don't mind grinding in MMO's, since I usually main a Mage, Necromancer, or AoE heavy classes, which keeps grinding pretty fun. Hopefully I'm not demanding too much, I just hope what is suggested fits at least 2 of what I ask for. Anyways, I need a MMORPG with (hopefully 2+ of) the following:
Being a little more specific, for 1., although I don't mean "hit-level-cap-in-a-week" fast, but generally as fast as doing one of the two options of levelling. I enjoy grinding, and lost too much sleep just to grind on Dragonica on my WarMage. I enjoyed doing that, except when I took a break... I just don't enjoy being forced to do one or the other sometimes, as I like to switch between the two methods, but oh well, not every MMO does that.
As for 2., I enjoy soloing sometimes. Although I won't solo party/raid oriented areas, but for simple grind or quests, I hope not to superglue a healer to my back to play the game as a Mage. Once again, coming back from Dragonica I can literally play through without a healer, and sometimes without getting touched by mobs or bosses alike. I think it became a bad habit being so independent now, although I enjoy partying far more.
3. is pretty straight-forward, as a F2P player, I don't think there will be much MMO's that don't fit this but as long as PvE is the core focus of the game then I'm all for it. Unless the game has a solid PvE, then I can excuse it being PvP based, I just hope PKing won't be obligatory, as in many cases I unknowingly choose the underpowered classes, and have a hard time doing well until end-game levels.
4. sounds pretty vague, but something that even a casual MMO gamer can do, reach the level cap. Even if it takes a year, or 2 years, but usually in the same amount of time the average casual gamer spends a day. I don't know if I can dedicate as much time as I did in previous years in MMO's, so this would be a nice (but optional) thing to have.
Also 5. is a joke, although I would very much be happy to PvP, it's generally not my thing in MMORPGs. I just felt like having only 4 requests in a list is too small, so I had to think of something. If suggested MMO has very balanced PvP (i.e.: no class is the best PvP class), then that's fantastic!
My Favorites:
I have thoroughly enjoyed Fiesta Online, Dragonica (aka Dragon Saga), Grand Fantasia (loved being a Necromancer there), and Ghost Online. So if there is an MMO I haven't played that are like the following (not just in genre, i.e.: 3D Fantasy, but similar gameplay), then please suggest them too even if they don't fit what I listed. I often try new MMO's since I never know what I may enjoy.
MMO's I've played:
Windslayer, Vindictus, FiestaOnline, GhostOnline, Runescape, Maplestory, Cabal, LaTale, SecretoftheSolstice, Mabinogi, Shaiya, DreamofMirrorOnline, GrandChase, XenepicOnline, AceOnline, WorldofWarcraft, PhoenixDynasty, Shadowbane, ChaosOnline, ScionsofFate, Lunia, Rakion, RagnorakOnline, StoneAge2, AtlanticaOnline, Flyff, 4Story, PerfectWorld, AngelsOnline, AsdaStory, LunaOnline, RunesofMagic, ChroniclesofSpellborn, Metin2, Wonderking, WarriorEpic, SouloftheUltimateNation, Mabinogi:Heroes, DragonSaga, and... I can't remember any other MMORPG I've played...
Suggest away!
So, any suggestions? I'll probably list what MMO's I should try in this post, so I won't waste anyone else's time reposting the same game unless they're "voting" for me to go with the game too.

Go old school. I decided to try a mud again after many years and was amazed at how much fun i'm having. Playing discworld at the moment and it's a blast. It's text and not an MMO, but there is a constant 100+ people on and lots of gameplay in there. Discworld.atuin.net port 23
Quests and achievments galore. Single player and group game play. The game is quite massive too.
Archlinux ftw
You may have already considered this one before, but EQ2X is really not all that bad.
1. As a free player you will be limited on how strong of gear you can wear and how strong your spells can be. However, I do not think leveling all the way to the level cap will be an issue, even soloing. I am playing EQ2X right now, even after I said I never would when it came out, and I havent had any issues with being "too weak."
2. Warlocks and Wizards are both offered as free classes. While they are not as independent as say a Necro or Conjuror, which would have to be bought to be played, they can still solo. They have High DPS so can kill things easily before they are killed themselves.
3. Definitely a pve game.
4. Can casually get to the cap. EQ2 is the only game, besides WoW, that I have reached the cap in. and I tend to be very casual.
5. There are battlegrounds and such, but PvP in EQ2 is not something I enjoy anymore. I used to love the open world pvp in the game, but EQ2X does not offer a pvp server, so that does not exist. Also, with having generally weaker spells and equipment, unless you were to upgrade, pvp probably wouldnt be enjoyable. But I havent done it in EQ2X myself yet so I can't say for sure.
Other Pros: Player Housing. Nice crafting (in my opinion). I love the in game music. Collectibles (?s) randomly found throughout the zones.
Other Cons: Gold limit. As a totally free player I think you can only have 3 gold per level. Also you are not allowed to use the Broker (Auction HOuse) as a free player. and you can only have two character slots. Also, free players cannot use the ingame chat channels, but you can still send tells, speak in groups, speak in guilds, speak in voice chat and use /say etc.
Overall, EQ2X offers a vast amount of content that can be very enjoyable for a casual free player. 90 levels and all expansions, except the most recent, are available to you. Some of the restrictions applied are a bit annoying, but still wouldnt hinder a casual player too much.
Somewhere on the EQ2 site is a table that outlines the restrictions and different options. If you try it and want to group up with me, my name is Nonsequitur in game. If you have tried it and didnt like it then I am sorry I wasted your time.
Edit: to fix spelling and make more clear.
Oh yeah and I forgot to mention this: There are space limitations as well. Bag slots and bank space are limited for free players. Which is actually kinda annoying sometimes.
Requiem: Memento Mori
This may ahve been awhile to respond but... Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll see if I can get to at least one tonight. I just hope Requiem doesn't kill my poor laptop, maybe I should of added that but I guess turning down the gfx settings won't hurt.
FreeBooteR
Definitely, though I find myself a bit on the slow side of MUDs, I think the next closest thing I can find myself spending weeks of my life on is The Depths of Dejenol. Inspired by MUD, close enough I guess?
asyndeton
At first the limitations seem quite heavy, but I guess there's so much, I don't think it's too bad. Reminds me a bit of when playing LOTRO. Trying to download, 12.4GB sure does take awhile, doesn't it? :P
niteWhisler
I remember this game, but I never seemed to get around playing it. Weird, it sure has matured quite a bit, like I said earlier I just hope it doesn't decide to destroy my computer into a bunch of mechanical gibs.
RIFT .
at #1 - in Requiem u can do what ever u want when it comes to xp; everything works
solo grind, party grind, questing, raiding, w/e (at low, mid and high lvls)
#2 - yep u can solo pretty much anyhting(all the way to lvl cap); afcorse there are some instances/dungeons which cant be soloed
#3 - PvE oriented game with lots of PvP content
#4 - hmm id say for a average player it could take about 3 months to reach lvl cap
#5 - "no class is the best PvP class" ... lets just say there are classes for PvP and there are classes for PvE
for example: when u start u choose shaman(mage so to speak; fireball, etc ^^) as ur class
at 50 u have to change ur job: choose between Forsaker( better in PvP, 1vs1, higher dmg, etc) or Mystic(better for partying, raids, heals, etc)
My god man do you live under a rock or perhaps a hole in the middle of the road? There is one it's called RIFT!
Best new game experience I have had in a very long time indeed. And NO , I can't even begin to compare this game with WoW. I don't know what people have been smoking to say such absurd things!
Heh I couldn't help but notice the only real MMO you have played is World of Warcraft? Hope that was back about 5-6 yrs ago or I ain't even gonna count that one. You really owe it to yourself to try out a real AAA pay to play title and get off of that free shit cause you really don't know what you have been missing.
As for free shit. LotRO, D&D online are prob your best bets.......
*nods head* those are probably the two best for FTP at the moment. of course, they are "Free" not Free however.
Everquest and Everquest 2 Veteran.
Rift is ok it plays well enough but its nothing different and you can only really lvl from doing quests.. plus its nto free to play and i guess this guy is looking for a f2p game.
The reason people compare it to wow is because it is a quest grind game and uses basicalyl the same type of cookie cutter ideas.. I am not saying its a bad thing btw
It's not FTP though, and it's not a WoW clone, it's an EQ2 clone.
Everquest and Everquest 2 Veteran.
Well I would say its more wow but i guess its a mix of WOW, WAR, EQ2.. IF you like those type of game and do fancy a p2p gaem then id say give Rift a try.. its not my cup of tea but if ou enojy others that are similar then u will like it..
I agree, give some of the Pay to Play games a try, find ones with trials you'll see what a full paid development team can do.

@Wrender: To be honest I'm not crazy about Rift. Since I'm not a fan or really had that much fun playing WoW. If Rift doesn't follow the whole WoW deal then I'll check it out.
If WoW is the only "real" MMO, then I don't have a taste for them, I guess. I find "real" (or rather, Western) MMO's boring then. I'm a big F2P gamer, just so you know.
@Ikeg: I may as well do trials, I've been looking at EVE a bit, although I'm not sure how much of an RPG that is, it looks complicated but really cool and unique. There's also GW2 that a friend is hyped about, since he loves the first one.
