let these studios make thier WoW clone if they like, they will be on life support in 4-6 months anyway, sooner or later there there will be a studio who suddenly see the big picture that we gamers have seen fore years.....why not do a none wow clone lets ge back to basics and see why UO,EQ,SWG,DAOC was so good that people for the first time in gaming history forked out monthly payment for playing a game.
Unfortunately, we've been saying that for years. Hasn't happened yet....
Ok I haven't read the thread, just the title and part of the OP (couldn't make it all the way through, vomiting blood and brains leaking out of ear trying to escape) so my comment is purely on that FROTFLMAO! fkin unbelievable.
I shit you not, I can't wait to make the first 'GW2 another WoW clone' on the day of release.

If this is all indeed true, they are just giving the "people" what they want.. The "people" being the over-inflated and over-appreciated sheep that played follow the leader to WoW and made it out to be the "know all , be all" of the MMO industry today..
People who supported and played WoW for years can never complain about any other MMO that is exactly like it.. Because they aided in the destruction of the genre from accepting such "minimalizing" of the "world" introduced in that game..
AMEN to that Brother. Every post that says "wow'clone" are those exact people doing it. If we ilved close I"d say lets go get a drink, but then... at a bar its the same thing, they all have beer, they all have TV's to watch, bad food, we make idle chit chat for hours untill we eventually give up .. wait.. are we still talking about the bar or all the MMO's out today after WoW?.. .. OMG, Im hilarious.. (not hah). Kidding naturally. And honestly, sometimes I feel like each post negative that mentions "WoW" are people who work at blizz'tard. Yes.. conspiracy theory !!, Right up there with JFK and 911!
Niche games with small dev teams should not be charging AAA rates.
I understand they would like to go away from the tried and true method of raiding(because clearly everyone is leaving WoW to play these failing raid games, right?).
The fact is, I'm not even willing to drop $50 bucks on video games that are made by these supposedly reputable studios anymore, let alone some new kid on the MMO block. Unless, its from someone I trust, which is a very short list - Bethesda, Anet, Turbine and BioWare.
I've no problem spending $20 or so on a game that I may never play. I spent $20 buck on Mount and Blade way back when they were still putting it together. I played it for a bit, and was happy that my $20 helped turned the project into something bigger. Heck, I bought Rift for $25 dollars just so I could say I tried it out. Point is, these smaller studios need to be realistic. Not every turd is worth the same.

Not sure I'd put it quite that way but I do agree.
I tried Gods and Heroes and for the most part liked it. Since I don't are abuot things like auction houses or pvp that is badly implemented I would normally have no problem playing.
but 49.99?
I just can't bring myself to do it.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
People keep referring to simliar combat mechanics and quests as wow clones when there not, there just traditional mmorpg clones.
I generally tend to classify something as a wow clone if it has a quest grinding system, easy level cap, bind on pickup, minimal crafting, and raid-oriented end-game, which classifies a great majority of the mmos released in the past five years. You can argue the semantics (after all combat mechanics are fairly ubiquitous nowadays), but I imagine that when people say wow clone they have a similar overall design in mind.
I only classify a game as a WoW clone if it is populated with immature, me , me, I , I type players who believe they are better than they actually are. You know, the typical Dunning–Kruger effect people. You all know them, and it doesn't matter what the game really is like for graphics, quest style, end game content, gear dependancy, themepark or sandbox. ANY game can be a WoW clone if its community acts just like WoW when you're playing it. Because lets be honest, if you ever played WoW, and you encounter that in whatever new game your playing, the only thing you will be thinking when it happens is 'This game is JUST like WoW'.

Just popping in to remind everyone that the term "WoW clone" is simply a point of reference. Any manner in which this phrase upsets your delicate sensibilties should be ignored, and the individuals in question should consider or evaluate why exactly they care what another individual calls a particular video game. If absolutely necessary, remind yourselves this every time you read the two words together, before blood begins to boil or the furious smashing of keyboards: it's purely referential.
Thank you.

I wonder if all these tweens realize there were actually games with quests, and raids, gear grinding, and seperated dungeon zones years before WoW was a glimmer in anyone's eye? Claiming these similarities make something a WoW clone is about as insightful as saying Chris Farley was a John Belushi clone. (Ask your parents) You want a more true classification for what is and what is not a WoW clone? Try any game that leads you through the entire experience by the hand like a 3 year old and spoon feeds you all its content under the assumption you are either too stupid or too lazy to figure out anything on your own. THAT is a WoW clone.

Let's not act like games haven't been developed and released that break the WoW model. The problem is when that happens we get crap like Xsyon!!!
I can't speak for everyone but for myself, I tend to put my money on a fairly known commodity. I don't get the chance to beta test every game before release so I have to use my judgement when I have interest on a game. Because the "wow clone" is the generic form of mmo gaming, it's what I know best and makes it easier to judge a game before giving or not giving them my dollars. For this reason, I'll continue to support w. clones I think may keep me entertained for the next six months.
Will i get burned? Of course! But less frequent than throwing my money at the unknowns like Xsyon and DCUO. It's like the old saying... what comes first, the chicken or the egg? Well good, quality games that break the w. clone mold HAS to come first before people who are willing to spend their money and support the mold breakers.
Having been play gods and heroes almost mon stop, and since the estate system was put into place, I am really enjoying this game with my wife and tribe! I like the idea of the heatwave staff responding directly to our forums, it really shows that they care! On a off note , I find it funny that so many people on these forums think they know to to rewrite coding and are more then capable of creating a mmo better then most studios. Some say that a game like this will never get to 150k members, to those of you who say that , how the heck would you know?? To the people who bash this game and who have never tried it or play it, why are you posting here? Just to be a troublemaker? People like myself play these games with a open mind and if we find bugs we report them to heatwave, the reason we do this? Is because we want the game to succeed and to have a better play experience for us and future players.

I think real life may be a WoW clone as well.
