Trion has done well with RIft.
The contact with players from beta thru launch.
The quality of product and lack of issues at roll out.
Basically they have done most things really well.
Going forward they need to expand into some of the areas they currently have un-used.
There is a very large lake in the game that makes up a small zonesize. This should be filled with some new underwater race. This race could then be intruduced as a third playable race that is at odds with both Guardians and Defiant. Obviously playing this race would mean you get underwater breathing as a passive ability and maybe some clickable swim speed buff that lasts 20 seconds.
The underwater lake would be devided by depth. The shallows would have low level stuff with quests and as you get deeper the quests and creatures go up in level until you are in the starter dungeon on one side of the deeps or a raid dungeon at another location in the deeps.
Another obvious area that should be opened up to become a dungeon either for raids or endgame or both is the LARGE gate outside the city on the Defiant side.
Oh and.....they need to add the ability to make scrolls for Artificer.

im sure they will add more zones when they release expansions with higher lvl cap to give a little more sense to the new areas....

We already know what's going on in the future. The lore does not appear to support a third faction as it is non-existant in the furture before we are sent back like terminators. This is the sort of thing you need to implement into the framework of your game design. While having a third faction is preferred by a lot of people(including me), I just don't think it has a place here in the lore.
There needs to be a guild bank.
They should definitely take advantage of lakes and oceans for dungeons.
They need to create an open PvP environment that gives players a reason to fight.
They need to implement a UI function to look for groups that aren't an instant travel dungeon finder.
They need to add new races, classes, levels.
They need to add a wider variety of mount types.
They need to further balance the PvP.
They need to implement siege combat/territory control.
They need to expand the map for future expansions.
They need to add guild invasion quests that take you into world PvP as a guild.
Just a few things... I'm sure the first paid expansion will include at least a few of these things.
I think playable death & water invaders would fit lore wise. Would that be a bit like Monster play from LOTRO? Maybe, but it could liven up PvP servers.
